Huskins - Linens 42x36 Pequot Cases 36c PARIS CHOOSES LIGHT HUED FURS PARIS, Nov. 7—Light colored furs are apt to be the fashion this winter. Parisiennes are almost unanimous in their demand for furs of brighter hues, according to the heads of the largest firms of furriers. Black and white combinations make some striking models for gowns as well as coats. Madeline puts a huge white fox hem on a black velvet gown. It stretches nearly to the waistline and creates an impression of great slenderness. Another designer puts deep white fur sleeves in a black crepe gown. Ermine will be much worn, especially in the evening, and the principal fur houses are receiving large orders for cloaks, coats and stoles made in this fur and Chinese rabbit, an imitation of ermine. There is nothing lovelier than black velvet and ermine which many of the dressmakers are using for the Russian blouse skating costumes. Grunwaldt makes a handsome befounced ermine coat for evening wear and puts deep bands of white fox on a warm sealskin wrap. The baut makes an unusual wrap quitted with black. It is a short day coat, and a lovely white ermine has a great deep-draped collar. Francis puts black fox on a white velvet and a stunning white broadcloth costume has a deep collar and cuffs of black marten. Many of his day dresses are trimmed with white fur. One in black moire has been exceptionally popular with a huge ermine bow with long ends where the dress fastens over one hip. Black velvet costumes have a narrow band of white fur down the front and a bit of it on the collar and cuffs. Hats, too, have the black and white combination in fur trimmings. Would Cut French From Bills of Fare CHICAGO, Nov. 7.—The man who, in an expensive restaurant, wants pork chops, orders what the menu calls "Pleds de Cochon St. Genevieve" and gets pigs' feet, is about to be rescued. The American Caterers' assn. has before it the recommendation of Carl C. Roessler, owner of Chicago's Atlantic hotel, that French be removed from dining-room bills of fare. He is an old-time cook. Mr. Roessler's proposal was indorsed by Rep. Fred A. Britten (from Illinois), founder of the organization. "The French used on the bills of fare is nothing more than 'kitchen French' anyway," Roessler said. "A cook merely uses French phrases because, if he did not, his colleagues would belittle his culinary ability. The primary use of French phrases for dishes is to 'put on dog.'" "It is to save embarrassment for guests and waiters alike that dishes should be in plain English. A guest asks a waiter what a certain dish is. The waiter does not know. Only the chef knows, because he puts it down in kitchen French." "Why puzzle a dinner with 'oeufs a la Bechamel' for common poached eggs with white cream gravy? Who knows that polirine de poulet a la Lucullus means breast of chicken with truffle gravy? Isn't it silly to call ham and eggs puffs au jambon?" The answer is "Yes." MOFFAT TUNNEL WORK UNDER WAY DENVER, Nov. 7.—With actual work on the construction of the Moffat tunnel under way, the 50-year dream of Colorado for a bore through the granite rocks of the Rocky Mountains bids fair to become a reality within the next four years. The tunnel, six miles long, will be through the mountains at James Peak, about 50 miles west of Denver, and its completion will result in: A reduction of 173 miles in the distance between Denver and Salt Lake City. Elimination of numerous steep grades on the Denver and Salt Lake (Moffat) railroad. The opening up of a vast empire on the western slope of the Colorado by furnishing this territory with an outlet for its minerals, ores and agricultural products. And it will put Denver on a trans-continental railroad route, which means, according to scores of industrial and financial leaders in this city, the attainment of the city's slogan: "500,000 population in 1930." TODAY'S BRIGHT SPOT CINCINNATI. Nov. 7.—Accused of petit larceny, Mrs. Olla Rigner, 22, of this city, told an unusual story in police court of why she stole a silk shirt from a department store. Mrs. Rigner said she was standing on a street corner when a well-dressed man stopped at her side. He seized her tightly by the right arm. "Go in that store and steal me a 15 1/2 size silk shirt," Mrs. Rigner said the man told her. "If you don't something terrible is going to happen to you." "I was so frightened I walked into the store and picked up the first shirt I saw," she told Judge Woeste. "Before I could get outside the detectives arrested me. I never saw the man before." The judge continued her trial and allowed her freedom on bond. SOME DIFFERENCE The Kansas paragrapher who complains about a country that will pay $100,000 for a third baseman and only 80c for a bushel of corn, seems to forget how many bushels of corn it takes to make a good third baseman.—Edwardsville Intelligencer.
