WANTS TO SCRUB 'GREAT UNWASHED' BINGHAMTON, Nov. 7—Baths for Binghamton is the new platform of James F. Delaney, alderman for the eighth ward. Hundreds of homes here are tubless, Alderman Delaney says, and have to keep the coal in a pair in the kitchen. Block after block in the heart of the city is covered with houses which were erected before bathtubs became fashionable. There is only one remedy, and that is the public bath. Alderman Delaney believes, therefore he will introduce before the common council an ordinance to build such a bath at some centrally located point, contiguous to the great unwashed. "My plan is an all-the-year-round public bath, as bathing should not be seasonal, strictly speaking." Ten showers and a plunge are the specifications I have in mind. With these, figuring on a basis of ten minutes to the bath, we could wash the entire population of Binghamton in a few days, exclusive of Sunday." The alderman's plan is to have two days each week when men may bathe free of charge, and two such days for women. On other days a charge of 10c per head per bath is to be made. The musical comedy star is now replenishing her wardrobe, having just returned from a South American tour. Her last Paris appearance was at the Casino de Paris, a rival production to the Folies Bergere. When she sails for New York, Mistinguett's two score of trunks will contain 200 gowns, 70 hats and 60 pairs of shoes, one pair of which is reputed to have cost $700. In addition, she is taking two baby monkeys, souvenirs of South America. It is said that Mistinguett's American contract calls for $3000 a week, which will make her a millionairress in French francs in less than six months. Although Mistinguett is the oldest and best known of the French musical comedy stars, she has never visited North America. Her dancing partner, Earl Leslie, is an American. STANFORD BOXERS OFF TO AUSTRALIA PALO ALTO, Nov 7—Stanford University boxers are scheduled for a trip to Australia next summer under Coach Harry Maloney, the Cardinal ring mentor, has announced. Having won the majority of his tournaments with coast colleges last year, Maloney now feels that his team will be strong enough to represent coast mateur boxers abroad after the coming season. Winners in their respective weights who will return to college to enter the bouts this season are: Robinson, heavyweight; Van Hook, light-heavyweight; Irwin, middleweight; Arnbruster, bantamweight. Maloney may be allowed to use such new freshin material as may be found this year, since Stanford would not be governed by conference rules in foreign competition. MUSSOLINI MAY CUT LIQUOR TRADE ROME, Nov. 7—The Mussolini government is about to introduce and pass legislation restricting the sale of liquor. Official figures show that the yearly death rate attributed to alcoholism is only about 16 per million inhabitants, but it is stated that this figure, although perhaps the smallest in the world, is large enough to worry Mussolini and his colleagues. It is proposed, under the new measures, to allow in large towns only one establishment selling spirits for every 1000 inhabitants, STAMPED PIECES (In Tan) 59c Scarfs, Pillows and Centers stamped on good quality Cotton Crash, in attractive designs. ROME, Nov. It is proposed, under the new measures, to allow in large towns only one establishment selling spirits for every 1000 inhabitants, including hotels and restaurants, and to forbid the sale of spirits after 10:30 p.m. Mussolini's proposals have raised severe criticism from many quarters, many people seeing in them the thin end of the wedge for the introduction of prohibition throughout Italy generally. TALK TO MUTES ON GLOVE ALPHABETS ATLANTA, Nov. 7—At last loud speech can be abrogated, dislustful whispering abandoned, and the dumb can converse in perfect ease with those who have good hearing, but do not understand the sign language. Since the recent convention of the deaf and dumb in Atlanta, young Atlantans have got together and devised a scheme whereby the above can be made possible. Gloves, black or white, have been carefully embroidered with letters in the opposite color, so that a miniature alphabet lies at the finger tips, making expressing and understanding easy and immediate. The new plan, already tried out, has proved satisfactory, these youths maintain. BROKE "EGGS" ON TYPEWRITER NEW YORK, Nov. 7—A New York editor spent much time trying to decipher a recent letter from a country correspondent, which read as follows: "Dear editor; I am the only man in town with a typewriter, so am in an eggstremely difficult position—the worst in fact in all my eggspierence as a country newspaper eggecutive. "Please send a man at once to make repairs to my typewriter." "I have broken the eggs on it." The editor reached a new type-bar, with the letter "X" on it, to his contributor.
