BRAKES LINED HERE
"WHILE YOU WAIT"
Since the inception of the automobile industry, brakes have been lined by a very laborious process involving an expenditure of time and labor out of proportion to the task, says C. J. Nenneo of Nenneo and Elimers, accessories dealers.
In fact, up to the present, there has been no advance in the method employed. Brakes are now lined at all repair shops in exactly the same manner as in the earliest days of the motor car.
Something new, "Line 'Em While You Wait" with the Raybestos High Speed Method, which is a new and scientific way for applying brake lining now is offered.
The makers were the first to conceive the idea of using asbestos fibre with a wire core in the form of asbestos yarn so as to weave it in the shape of belting in the various widths and thicknesses and then treat it with a heat and wear-resisting compound to be used as a brake lining.
Raybestos is a solid woven asbestos brake lining, containing no fillers and is manufactured of 90 per cent to 95 per cent high grade long fibre asbestos yarn. After weaving, it is thoroughly impregnated through and through, from one side to the other, with a highly developed heat and wear-resistant compound, which makes it impervious to heat, oil and weather conditions and gives it an extremely long wearing life.

STATE ROAD FUND
WILL BE LARGER
The county will receive approximately $35,000 more this fiscal year than last from the state motor vehicle fund, according to Auditor W. C. Jerome, who recently received a check for $137,241.28 from the fund. The total apportionment last year was $110,000. Jerome expects at least $10,000 yet to come this year.
ANTI-SKID TIRE SALES ARE MOUNTING
"Now that the winter season is rapidly approaching, car owners are giving serious thought to their tire equipment," says Branch Manager Price of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber company of California.
"The they realize that on slippery city pavements and on the muddy roads and rain-swept hillsides it is absolutely necessary to have tires that offer a maximum amount of traction and resistance to side-slip and skidding. As a result, our sales of Goodyear all-weather tread tires have increased by leaps and bounds during the past three weeks.
"On a smooth, dry, level road, there isn't much difference in tires from the standpoint of skidding or traction. If all our highways were paved and level and there wasn't such a thing as mud or rain or ice and snow, motorists would still probably be riding around on smooth tread tires.
"It doesn't take an expert to see that sharp-edged diamond blocks are placed so as to check immediately the skidding tendency in any direction. The advantages of the rounded grooves between the blocks enable the tire to clean itself immediately of clinging mud or snow—an advantage which is obvious."

CADILLAC OWNER PREFERS BELL TIRES
Roy Mendoza of the Reliable Tire Co. has this to say about the Para Bell Tire for which he is distributor in this Community. Johnny Ortega a long time resident of Fullerton, came in for a new set of 35x5 Para Bells for the rear of his Cadillac. He was one of the first purchasers of Para Bells in Anaheim, when the Reliable Tire company was opened by Mendoza and his brother. The tires on this machine have gone over 25,000 miles and are still going. The tires replaced by the new set of 35x5 will be carried for extras.
This is just one of many instances says Mendoza, of the mileage that is being given by this wonderful tire. Sales are going good, and 'its only on account of the satisfaction that is being given users who send in their friends and acquaintances. Mendoza is enjoying just as much business if not more, as at any time during his connection here in Anaheim. His "Tires on credit" plan is meeting the approval of many Anaheimers.
STUDE'S PIKE'S PEAK VICTORY IS SURPRISE
Charles H. Myers, of Colorado Springs, Colo., driving a 1981 Studebaker big six, won event No. 2 in the recent annual Pike's Peak national hill climb.
The race was over a course of 12 miles with a climb of 2000 feet. Myers' time for the distance, 19 minutes 21.2-5 second, is the fastest time ever made over the route by car with a minimum weight of 2000 pounds.
The competing cars were divided into three classes governed by weight and piston displacement. The big six was entered in class three, which was open to cars with motors having a piston displacement of 300 cubic inches and over, and minimum weight of 2000 pounds.
Many high powered racing cars and experienced drivers were entered. Before the race Myers was not considered as a possible winner by the large crowd which thronged the course. It was evident, however, as the powerful Studebaker dashed to
PLAN ANNEX FOR PRINTER'S HOME
COLORADO SPRINGS, Oct. 6—At a meeting here presided over by C. P. Howard, president of the International Typographical Union, the board of trustees completed plans for the erection of a $300,000 addition to the Union Printers' Home in this city, and made provision for the installation of more than $50,000 worth of hospital appliances, including an X-ray room and a complete surgical laboratory.
The new structure will increase the capacity of the printers' home by approximately 50 per cent, it was announced.
DODGE ON TRIP "HITS BELL" AGAIN
Back from a trip of several thousand miles covering parts of Montana, Washington, Oregon, Denver, Colorado; Salt Lake City, Utah; Yellowstone National Park, etc., J. W. Sackett is more confident than ever that his choice of a Dodge car was no mistake.
Sackett experienced no trouble whatever, and had no repairs during the trip. Previous to his departure he had his valves ground and every nut and bolt tightened up.
He was gone about two months.
Charley Mann, decal distributor, announces that the demand for closed cars is steadily growing, not on account of the fall season particularly, but because of the practical convenience of closed models. They are comfortable; they are a protection in case one is not as warmly dressed as he should be; they keep out drafts and dust, and are equally usable in all sorts of weather.
All windows, except the rear one of the Dodge sedan, may be lowered.
New Reo Six Has Many Improvements
When the new Reo six-cylinder touring car is seen for the first time, the thing which immediately attracts the eye is the lowered chassis. Other changes of a mechanical nature have been made in the development of this latest addition to the Reo line, but upon people familiar with the appearances of the better known cars, it is the low-swung body which makes the first pleasing impression, says Branch Manager Cromer, of Dale and Co.
Since the new body is mounted on the same standard T-6 chassis serving ali Reo passenger cars, this decrease in height and the new rear axle features of the mechanical changes are shared with all other Reo models as they are announced this month. However, the new touring car has a number of other improvements.
The lowered chassis has been obtained through increased offset in the frame. Approximately two inches are taken from the height of the car in this way, and the general appearance of the model is greatly enhanced by the appearance of fleetness and road-hugging ability made possible by the change.
It is probably in the design and construction of the new rear axle that the most important mechanical change is made. A new type of semi-floating axle has been brought out, combining the advantages of full floating and the old style semi-floating types, and giving greatly increased braking surface and markedly improved braking qualities.
The brake drum used is 15 inches in diameter, while the bands have 1-2 inch faces. The service brake, operating from the clutch pedal is of the external type, while the emerger...
The competing cars were divided into three classes governed by weight and platoon displacement. The big six was entered in class three, which was open to cars with motors having a platon displacement of 300 cubic inches and over, and minimum weight of 2000 pounds.
Many high powered racing cars and experienced drivers were entered. Before the race Myers was not considered as a possible winner by the large crowd which thronged the course. It was evident, however, as the powerful Studebaker dashed to the front at the first quarter, that the "dark horse" would finish among the leaders.
Eight months ago this Big-Six was wrecked in Pueblo, Colorado, and was so badly damaged by fire that it was not considered worth repairing.
Although this was Myers' first race, he displayed the skill of an experienced driver—taking the sharp turns and steep inclines at a speed that would have done justice to a champion. His efforts were rewarded when he crossed the finish line with a lead of one minute and a half over his nearest competitor.
Myers won a purse of $200 for the fastest time in his class; honors for the second fastest time, regardless of class, and the fourth fastest time that has ever been made over the route. He also holds the record for ears of this weight, via: 2000 pounds, there being no weight limit in past years.

Six Has Many Outstanding Improvements in Mechanism, Design
new Reo six-cylinder engine for the first time, immediately attracts powered chassis. Other mechanical nature have led to the development of a new swung body which pleasing impression, manager Cromer, of new body is mounted on hard T-5 chassis servo-massenger cars, this design and the new rear of the mechanical shared with all other they are announced however, the new four-number of other im-chanches has been increased offset in proximately two inches the height of the car and the general appearance of fleetness ability made pos-ange. In the design and the new rear axle important mechanical advantages of full old style semi-float-giving greatly increase-surface and markedly ing qualities. From used is 15 inches while the bands have. The service brake, the clutch pedal is type, while the emergency brake operating from a second pedal, is of the internal expanding type, giving braking surface over its entire circumference.
A feature which is included on all Reo passenger models now is a new transmission lock. Elimination of the danger of operating the starter while the car is in gear is one of the lock's greatest qualities.
Still another feature is the tool compartment under the front seat, from which tools can be taken without disturbing the passenger in the seat. Panel doors at each side give entrance to the compartment, the doors being fitted with locks which make the compartment an ideal storing space for small packages when the car is parked.
In general body style, the new model resembles the phaeton Reo with its cowl ventilator and other distinguishing features. The side wing windshield and nickel and aluminum trim throughout are used, and two standard finishes for the car are provided, one being of Reo blue with white penell striping running parallel with the trim rail, the other of Crane Simplex gray with the same striping.
SPREAD OF USED CAR PLAN PLEASES HAMM
Much interest was shown today by C. P. Hamin, manager of the Anaheim and Fullerton certified motor car markets, when told of the final plans for the application of the used car plan on a national scale. Hammin, manager of the first of such markets started, has been sending managers to other-new markets who received their training under him, and is beginning to feel like a veteran.
NEW RADIO UNIT INTERCHANGEABLE
Robert V. Jensen calls attention to the Echophone interchangeable unit, contained in various radio cabinet sets. By its means, it is possible to own more than one cabinet for the home or auto trip with the single expense of one receiving apparatus.
The panel is of selected, flawless formica, and all materials used in the construction of the unit are of the highest quality. Controls are well balanced and the tapering of the knobs afford smooth and comfortable tuning.
The cabinet of Echophone Special is built large enough to hold all batteries and wiring, making it unnecessary to have any unsightly external wiring whatever.
Everything is arranged for the convenience of the operator. By simply raising the lid all batteries, tubes and wires are readily accessible, and even the interchangeable unit itself can be lifted out.
Model J is the stock term for Echophone Junior. This is the special model designed for head phone reception of local broadcasting. The same efficient system of tuning is used in Model J as is employed in the Echophone Interchangeable Unit, with the exception of the Vernier Control.
This single tube-regenerative receiver is contained in a well-seasoned Mexican birch cabinet built with sufficient capacity to hold all batteries when 4 1-2v. tube is used.
Computing the value of German marks is easy. Just add three ciphers to the last valuation.—Corning Observer.
Complete operation of the plan nationally is now regarded as a matter of only a short time.
