Miscellaneous LA HABRA LA HABRA, Sept. 24.—Cynthia C. Gee was born in Boon county, Ind. Feb. 18, 1852, and departed this life Sept. 17, 1923, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. E. Martin. She was united in marriage to James H. Warthen, Nov. 24, 1870 and to this union was born seven children, two having proceeded her to the better world. Her husband and daughters, Mrs. W. H. Dill and Mrs. D. E. Martin of La Habra, were at her bedside when the end came. Mrs. Lydia Ross of Harrisburg, Ore., and Mrs. Ollie Powell of Cottage Grove, Ore., and the only son, Archie, of Lakeside, Ore., were not privileged to be with their mother during her last hours. She was a faithful and devoted wife, a loving mother and a kind and ministering friend to all in whom she came in contact. She was a devoted Christian and very early in life unified with the United Brethren, and was an active worker, having served several charges in Oregon as minister of the gospel of the Christ she so dearly loved. Six of her nephews acted as pall-bearers at her request: Ed Sutton, G. E. Sutton, A. B. Stevens, W. E. Stevens, Albert Fulwider and Elzie Mothershead. Funeral services were conducted from the Brethren church at Whittier by her pastor, Rev. Ringland, assisted by Rev. Crawford, of Oregon, a former co-worker, under whom she served her ministerial work. Interment was at the Whittier Heights cemetery, and was attended by many sorrowing friends and relatives who met to pay their last loving tribute. A very comforting duet, "There will be singing in heaven," was beautifully rendered by Mrs. Jessie Griffin and Wayne Hosteeter. Visitors at the E. E. Proud home this week were Rev. and Mrs. H. H. Stansberge. an attack of smallpox. Mrs. F. P. Davis is entertaining Mr. and Mrs. Ira Irwin and family of Indiana, who arrived this week. Mr. and Mrs. T. W. LaMonte are erecting a new home on Erna street. They expect to move to La Habra from Redondo Beach as soon as it is completed. Ivan Ludevic, son of Mrs. George Anderson, left this week for a months' stay in Mexico. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Rowe are new arrivals from Indianapolis. At present they are located in the Swean, apartments. Mr. and Mrs. John Leutwiler entertained a number at their beautiful ranch home Tuesday evening. The affair was a birthday dinner in honor of their grandson, Eugene Davies, nata; day. Coveres were laid for Mr. and Mrs. Harold Robertson of Huntington Beach, Miss Gladys and Stella Leutwiller, Mrs. J. E. Walker and daughter Evelyn; Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Davies and honoree Eugene, and the host and hostess, Mrs. Leutwiller and husband. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Tower left on Tuesday for Long Beach, where they will make their home. Mrs. Walter Hole and son Will have returned from Balboa Island, where they spent the summer at their beach cottage. Mrs. Charley entertained section 2 of the Ladies' Aid society at her home on South Hiatt street. The morning was spent in tackling comforts and planning for the coming bazaar, after which a four-course mealon was served laid for 20. Jennings Bryan lecture at Los Angeles were Mr. and Mrs. Cheater Scheupbach and son, accompanied by E. E. Proud and son Arville, and Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Proud. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Dickman were dinner guests at the Williamson home at Huntington Beach recently. Miss Nina Hampton left Tuesday to attend the college at Pomona. She was accompanied by Miss Susan Walker, who will enter college as soon as a room can be secured. Miss Cordia Rice has returned from the Whittier hospital, where she has been for some time, but she is very much improved. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Reese and her daughter Alice of San Francisco, were callers at the Rollo Hilbert home Wednesday. Week-end visitors at the Bert Hampton home on West Central avenue are Mrs. Sadie Milclient of Oregon and Mrs. Elia Milligen of Love-lea, Colo. They are cousins of Mrs. Hampton. Pearl Beer is spending this week at Eureka, where he is attending the Elks' convention. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Potes will leave Sunday for Blythe, Calif., after spending the summer in La Habra. The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Toney is ill. Clifford Cates was a business visitor to Yorba Linda this week. Mrs. J. W. Camp was a luncheon guest at the home of Mrs. W. O. Chanery at Alhambra Wednesday. Mrs. R. M. Phillips of Los Angeles and Mrs. Stella Keene were dinner guests at the D. A. Davis home on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Moffitt are building a new home in the McPherson addition. They are newcomers to La Habra. Mrs. Francis Gladwine's eighth-grade boys held a social at the social hall. The object was to form a club of boys for a mutual improvement and enjoyment. This club will hold each week on Tuesday.
