A. H. S. GIRLS PLAN BIG CASABA SEASON An active season in basketball is anticipated by Coach Irene Jacques and her girl casala tossers. Several dozen of the fair enthusiasts are out each evening showing their stuff. The first game will be played Wednesday when freshmen and sophomores tangle. Miss Lydia Moir of the freshmen squad is busy giving her girls instructions and they hope to take the honors. Miss Wilma Mitchell, sophomore captain, has a fast aggregation rounded up and they are practicing each evening to cop. Junior and senior squads will play Friday evening. A game will be played Tuesday of next week for school honors. Coach Jacques received a challenge from El Monte high school for a game Thursday, Oct. 4. El Monte is the only school last year which defeated the local champ, Coach Jacques will try to get a team ready but will not play El Monte unless the yagree to come to the local court. Anahein played there last season. There seems to be considerable discussion over this withdrawal of Fullerton and Santa Ana from the Orange-co league. At a meeting of the boy's coaches recently they thought it wise to let the girl's teams join the Tri-counties circuit, the same as the boys. Miss Alberta West of Santa Ana and dMiss Florence Randall of Fullerton are not in favor of this move. Miss Jacques is also not in favor of the change as she believes the teams are evenly matched and the withdrawal of these teams would leave only weak teams in the league. Orange probably has the strongest team. lerton and Santa Ana from the Orange-co league. Orange probably has the strongest team next to Anaheim. This proposition will be thrashed out at a meeting of 18 county girl coaches Thursday. The teams, Santa Ana and Fullerton would compete with are Pasadena, Long Beach, Whittier and San Diego. Miss Mabel Porter of Orange is also against the change. LOPEZ WINS GAME FOR PLAC. JAPS Richfield-Spanish team defeated a squad of Los Angeles Jap yesterday 6 to 5 after nine torried innings of slugging. Neither team was able to score until the sixth when Richfield's star player, Jacke Vetter, upset the zero score. Despite the slugging, no home runs were made. Nixon, a big bug from San Diego, played with the winning team yesterday as receiver. He is a good catch and Vetter will line him up for the American Legion team when their activities start in October. This was Nixon's first game in Orange-30 and he was given a good reception. The fans went wild when Vetter and Nixon were at bat as they are as good sluggers as they are the first baseman and catcher respectively. Travis at third base did some excellent work. The athletes appeared in their new grey and white uniforms. Manager Ray Ortiz carries a smile of satisfaction when he can arrange such a lineup as yesterday. Petalta, a new arrival, occupied the mound. Runs by innings: Richfield ... 000 004 200—6 Japanese ... 000 000 412—5 STOCKS CLOSE STEADY NEW YORK, Sept. 24. —The stock market closed steady today.
