George Berger, 19, was arrested in Santa Ana, suspected of stealing tools from the Ford garage of Geo. Dunton and clothing from a Santa Ana apartment house. With Berger was living a girl who looked to be a child, and whom he alleged was his wife. In addition to the clothing and tools, Berger is suspected of having taken money from a handbag at the Golden West pool hall, and a steering wheel from a car standing out in front.
Ray Birch was arrested at 3:30 p.m., yesterday in Santa Ana, charged with stealing ten cartons of Camel cigarettes from Snart and Final, wholesale groceries, Santa Ana. Birch was taken in by officer Smithwick after his landlady had found five cartons of the cigarettes in the garage at 606 East Fifth-st.

TOMIQKA, Japan, Sept. 5.—(via Radio Corp. of America to San Francisco.)—The Toyo Kisen Kaishen liner, Tayo Maru, with about 100 passengers aboard is safe; it was revealed today with the vessel communicated with the Japanese radio station at Choshi.
The Taiyo Maru had been reported in distress in the Pacific off Yokohama. The Cordova, Alaska, wire less station picked up SOS calls from a ship said to have been the Taiyo Maru.

LA HABRA, Sept. 5. (Spl.)—Mrs. Stoutsenburger of South College-ave returned Monday from the bedside of her son Harry, who is very ill at the Loma Linda hospital. Mr. Stoutsenburger was working on an irrigation ditch near Brawley when he fell in the ditch causing a rupture, then he was removed to the hospital at Loma Linda, later pneumonia setting in.
Mr. Joe Edwards of South Hiatt at visited at the home of his mother, Mrs. H. Edwards over the week-end at San Diego.
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Park spent the holiday in San Bernardino visiting their parents. Labor Day was celebrated with a picnic lunch a hike at Forest Home.
Little Earlline Hester of Anaheim is spending two weeks at the Rev. Claud Smith home while her mother is in the hospital. Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Hester are old friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Claud Ridgeway spent Sunday and Monday at Grant Park.
The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Aid will be held Thursday afternoon in the social Hall at 2 o'clock. Officers for the ensuing year will be elected. All members are urged to attend.
Mr. Jim Bristow is suffering from injuries received when his finger was crushed working in the oil fields near Wilmington.
