DUNDEE TO CLAIM FORFEIT OF $5000
NEW YORK, Sept. 5.—Declaring that he will be neither goat nor bad lamb in the summary postponement of the lightweight championship bout scheduled for tonight, Johnny Dundee will go before the New York State Athletic Commission at 2 o'clock this afternoon, weigh in at the lightweight limit of 125 pounds and law claim to Benny Leonard's title and forfeit of $5,000 in the event the latter fails to put in an appearance.
That is the next step in the controversy between Leonard and Dundee, principals, and Jimmy Johnston promoter, over Johnston's action in ordering a postponement on the grounds that Dundee is not in condition to do himself justice.
"I was never in better condition and will prove it before the commission," Dundee said. "Any physician will hear me out. I weigh 125 pounds, my speed and wind are very good, my hands are perfect. Look at them. Not a bruise or a mark.
"They can't make me the goat in this difficulty. If Leonard isn't at the commission's offices at 2 o'clock to weigh in, I lay claim to the forfeit. If he isn't at the Yankee Stadium at the scheduled hour tonight, I will lay claim to his title. They over-matched themselves when they tried to shift the responsibility to me. Leonard cannot make the weight and has asked for this postponement."
Public opinion is divided, some believing Leonard has found the weight too much for him and others alleging that Johnston has not sold tickets in the manner to which he is accustomed. The promoter, however, declared that the advance sales have been "tremendous."

By SARGUM SPROUT
Two famous scouts and hunters, Dead Shot La Rue and More Deader Shot Priddy of Cypress oiled up their trusty rifles and went a hunting last week. They slipped quietly into Henley's camp on the Seape. There they left the Durant and packed back into the wilds of Pine Creek notorious for its big and ferocious wild game.
Just back of Henley's camp, Dead Shot and more Dead Shot came onto the trail of a very large buck or a small elk. The Dead Shots immediately dropped their packs and with the trusty rifles in hand started out to track Mr. Buck or Elk down. The trail lead through a very rough country, wild and tangled brush and over sharp mountain sides.
At last the Dead Shots descended a very rough and brushy mountain side. They were crawling on hands and knees as the brush overlapped the trail. Just ahead they could hear the prey. With guns in readiness for quick action the Dead Shots crept out on Mr. Henley's milk goat nibbling on the tinn cans in the Henley back yard. The Dead Shots beat a hasty retreat to their packs.
About half way up the mountain that forms the south wall of Pine Creek there is a little spring that seeps forth. Here much of the wild game comes to drink. There is much evidence of field mice, squirrels, chipmunks, fox and now and then a doe with fawn mingle their tracks with those of the other wild animals.
To this spring the Dead Shots made their way.
Dead Shot sailed forth into the wilderness one direction and More Dead Shot the other. After long hours of hunting through the unexplored mountainsides they returned to camp at the spring exhausted. After a light lunch they took their blankets and wrapped themselves in peaceful slumber. Some time during the night a ferocious old hungry dog came across More Dead Shot's

Boy, bring a niche for Mr. Jones of the New York Yankees. He shut out the Athletics without a hit, the Yankees winning 2 to 0. It was the first bitless game in the majors this season. Three men reached first base on a pass, an error by Scott and a force play.
In a duel of left hands, Rixey beasted Cooper and the Reds beat the Pirates 2 to 1.
Danforth wilted in the late innings, the Indians beat the Browns 6 to 2.
The Cubs gained a rolling fall over the Cardinals 3 to 2.
Inspired by Kelly's homer with two on in the eighth, the Giants defeated the Braves 3 to 1.

WORTHMORE TRACT
Dead Shot sallied forth into the wilderness one direction and More Dead Shot the other. After long hours of hunting through the unexplored mountainsides they returned to camp at the spring, exhausted. After a light lunch they took their blankets and wrapped themselves in peaceful slumber. Some time during the night a ferocious old hungry doe came across More Dead Shot's trail down on the mountain side and followed the trail to where The Dead Shots were sleeping. A portion of More Dead Shot Priddy's shirt tail was rippling in the breeze and this caught the eye of the hungry old doe. The shirt being of a fine silk texture was just fitted to the palate of the doe. After assuaging her hunger the doe left the Dead Shots to slumber peacefully through the night.
Next morning the missing shirt tail and the tracks of the doe told plainly the story, and the near catastrophe, for if it had not been for the shirt the hungry doe might have pounced on the sleepers and there might have been a very sad ending to this tale.
Pressing business made it necessary for the Dead Shots to hasten home, but next year they are going up and get that doe.
