Miscellaneous YORBA LINDA YORBA LINDA, Aug. 9.—(Spl.) Mr. C. R. Selover came down on Monday from Barton Flats where he has been vacationing the past three weeks. He expects to return the end of the week. Mrs. Wm. Doe and son William returned on Monday afternoon from a few days' visit at Lankershim. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Day and family spent Sunday with the Frank Lynn family in Glendale. The party honored Mrs. Lynn whose birthday fell on that day. The Lynns are former residents of this place. A number of men had a narrow escape from injury on Monday while taking down the oil derrick on the Marshburn ranch. They had taken down part of the top and came down again and just as they reached the ground the derrick collapsed. The work on the well on the C. C. Chapman ranch, known as the "Ridge Oil Co." has been taken over by Vern Dumas and work started again. Mr. and Mrs. Noah Hammer are the parents of a boy born at the Anaheim Hospital on Saturday. On Sunday a number of ladies from her emptied to Gardena where they participated in the house warming given by Miss Etta B. Suedecor who has moved into a fine new home there. Miss Suedecor taught here last year and has been engaged for next term. Those in the party Sunday included Mrs. Jenny Bacon, Miss Bernice Bacon, Mrs. Mary Gale and Miss Olive Gale. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Paine returned on Friday from a motor trip to Lake Tahoe and vicinity. They plan to leave the end of the week for their mountain cabin at Barton Flats. Friends, numbering about fifty, descended on Mr. and Mrs. E. Joner on Sunday morning and informed them they had come to spend the day in the fine new home. The self-invited guests, however, had brought with them a splendid dinner. The afternoon was spent with music. Out-of-town guests were from Lameda and Westimster and included Mr. and Mrs. Harris and children who formerly lived here. The new Jones property is a seven-room stucco house with many attractive built-in features and is a splendid addition to the pretty ranch homes in this district. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Miller entertained with an elaborate dinner party on Sunday honoring friends from Minneapolis. Other guests were from Los Angeles, covers being laid for eight. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Kellogg were host and hostess to Mr. and Mrs. Dennison, Mrs. Fergeson and Miss Martha Fergeson, all of Alhambra, on Sunday.
