Miscellaneous ANCHOR BRINGS IN 1400-BARREL WELL By Ellwood Munger At Huntington Beach the only excitement of the week was a 1400 barrel well brought in by the Anchor Oil Company and a small producer completed by the Standard. The Anchor Oil Company completed its third well No. 3 at 4881 and resulted in a 1500 barrel well making 23 gravity oil. The Standard Oil's Huntington Beach completion, a 400 barrel well was made on the Huntington B property at No. 20. Drilled to 4433 No. 20 came in a 400 barrel well doing 26 gravity oil. The Petroleum Midway is continuing its efforts to shut off bottom water and make a producer out of the deep well Columbia 2-2. The well was drilled 5500 and his been plugged back to 5470. Columbia 1-2 has passed the 5000 mark and begins to look like a good well. The chief interest at Montebello this past week was the showings the H. L. Whiston well is getting. Drilling has passed the 4100 foot mark and at 4036 there was an appreciable showing of light oil. Something in the way of a sensation is promised when the well reaches 4200 feet. Richfield the quietest oil field in Southern California today keeps up a little development work and every once in a while something comes in. This past week the Union Oil Company brought in a 75 barrel well on the Chapman lease. On the Isaacs property the Petroleum Midway is making preparations to bring in one of the deep test wells of the Richfield district. Yaacs 3 was finished in 4655 and is expected to get a rate on what can be expected of deep production in the east end of the Richfield district. STOCKS CLOSE HEAVY NEW YORK, Aug. 8.-The stock market closed heavy today. Reactionary movements continued up to the close, but net losses in most instances were moderate. Lastman Kodak declined four points to 103. Famous Players was also weak, losing about 2 points to 70%. Railroad stocks lost their early advance. Reading declined nearly one point to 73% and Southern Pacific % to 85. Studebaker lost nearly 2 points to 102% and Baldwin Locomotive over two points to 111%. Government bonds unchanged; railway and other bonds steady. Stock sales today 426,400 shares; bonds $6,278,000. WHEAT AND OATS STRONG CHICAGO, Aug. 8.-Wheat and oats closed with strength today while corn was weak. M. LITTLE DOUBT OF FIELD AT CON There seems to be little about the future of Compa oil field. With the Union pany getting a producer some where between 200 barrels in the top sand, the reason to believe that like fields of Southern California a top sand has been devel Richfield the quietest oil field in Southern California today keeps up a little development work and every once in a while something comes in. This past week the Union Oil Company brought in a 75 barrel well on the Chapman lease. On the Isaacs property the Petroleum Midway is making preparations to bring in one of the deep test wells of the Richfield district. Yaacs 3 was finished at 4655 and is expected to get a hole on what can be expected of deep and production in the east end of the Richfield district. At Torrance a ripple of excitement passed with the Peterson-Barker well circulating oil. With the black gold running around in the mud box, the onlooker would of course figure the well had come in. The situation is this: on running in the 8% casing the pipe stuck at 1900 feet and the oil was used in trying to wash it loose. The Peterson-Barker well was drilled to 2890 and to date there have been no exceptional oil showings. Real action and immediate action at that can now be expected for the Bellflower field. W. M. Keck recognized as one of the most successful contract drillers and oil producers of California has entered into an agreement with the Calpetro Producers Syndicate to drill the two wells started by the company and put them on production if the oil is to be produced. Mr. Keck has already put his crews on the wells and the work is going ahead. The deal that has been made is most advantageous to Keck and the Calpetro. Mr. Keck has large interests at Bellflower and the Carpetro will find out in a short time now if their property is oil bearing. Tuesday night that the Howard Automobile Co., wanted him to come down with members of his force and view them. The cars had been shipped from the factory and held in Los Angeles under guard so that no one would know they were out until the official announcement was ready to be released. Only those persons were admitted to the showrooms who were interested in the selling of a car. The new models have many new features, and they don't look like Buick cars at all, because of their straight lines and the manner in which the hood has been raised. Here are some of the new features: Four wheel brake, constructed so that the outside front wheel is not braked at a turn and the car can be steered with one finger; motor lubricated at an oil pressure of 25 pounds and no need to raise the hood except to oil the motor; velvet clutch, easy shifting transmission, full floating rear axle, retained, but a longer wheel base; LIFTLE DOUBT OF FIELD AT CONFIDENCE There seems to be little about the future of Companial oil field.
