BUYING CAR SHOULD BE AN INVESTMENT
Buying an automobile should be a business investment on exactly the same plane as buying real estate or insurance, declares O. C. Hutchinson, general sales manager of the Hupp Motor Car Corporation. "Every factor of good business judgment should enter into its purchase—original cost price, resale value, cost of upkeep and the reputation of the company making the product as well as that of the dealer handling it.
"The motor car has become a transportation necessity, and by far the greatest use to which it is being put today is to meet the basic demand of economical transportation. From 70 to 75 per cent of Hupmobile buyers purchase their cars primarily for business purposes, it has been ascertained, although the Hupp has been known essentially as a family car for years, and its sales volume built up from that demand.
"Some legislatures still regard the motor car as a luxury and would keep it in the luxury class whenever a discussion of future items for taxation arises. But the number is steadily diminishing."
"It has taken nearly 50 years for the number of telephones in use to reach approximately 15,000,000 and only 20 years for automobiles to reach the same peak."

Eddy’s Orange Show Exhibit Noteworthy
How a car can be made literally to look like new will be shown by Eddy's Pallet & Trop Shop at the Orange show, when the firm displays a Cole S of J. A. Claye, principal of the Anaheim Union High school. The car will have an Elizabeth de Luxe California top, with body covering of tan fabricoid, trimmed in chocolate brown, with fenders, splash and chassis in chocolate brown and radiator shella, lamps and trimmings in nickel.
The interior will be in brown broadcloth corresponding to the rest of the car.
The entire job except the nickelink was done by the Eddy shop.
Another car to be exhibited at the show will be a Packard single six with a Boyes sport top, done by the shop for Dale & Co. Eddy also is building a sedan shape Boyes sport California top on a Packard single six purchased recently by Joe Piscus.

FRANKLIN SETS UP NEW FAST RECORD
What is declared to be the highest Franklin average record in miles per hour for a distance ever known is that of the run staged by the Detroit Franklin Company between Detroit and Grand Rapids and return, says the Bob White Co., Nash and Franklin distributors. The average was 42.84 miles per hour over 331 miles.
It is all the more remarkable in the face of the fact that a sedan carrying four passengers was used. This car was driven by Charlie Memmore who was accompanied by A. B. Tobias and C. A. Brady of the Detroit Franklin Company, and E. H. Schumacher of the Detroit Free Press. They left Detroit at 3:50 a.m. and arrived at Grand Rapids at 8:03; average running time for 165.5 miles, 44.5 miles per hour. Return trip average was 43.2 miles per hour. Round trip average 43.84 miles for the 331 miles covered.
Motorcycle police preceded the car. Twenty minutes was allowed for breakfast at Grand Rapids, during which time the oil in the motor was changed, pre-heated oil being used to avoiding cooling the motor. Highest point reached by the speedometer in this drive was 61 miles per hour.

NEW 77 HAYNES SPEEDSTER ARRIVES
Here's a car, fans, you can rave about. The first of the big six Haynes 77 speedsters to reach here.
The Hull-Wittmer Haynes Co. have put it on exhibit at their showrooms on South Los Angeles-st. It is the same car that can do 90 miles an hour and which was driven on March 9, last gear, at 74 to 80 miles an hour on the Indianapolis Speedway by Howard Wilcox. Done in a battleship grey, with all the trimings, and space in the rear for a couple of trunks, besides a spacious compartment immediately back of the seat, this car is a joy to look upon.
The car will be one of six models to be exhibited by the local concern at the Orange show.

AUTOBOGANNING — THIS IS LATEST
Although the scene pictured here with is not one of the regularly discussed 64 "Reasons for Reo", it might be considered so by lovers of the out doors, says C. W. Cramer, branch manager of Dale & Co., Reo and Packard distributors.
At any rate, it does make clearer the statement of a medical authority that the automobile has done more to improve the health of the American people than any other single factor.
California winters bring their days of snow sports up among the mountains and canyons where this photograph was made. There the northern fad of autobogganing and its wholesome outdoor frolicking can be alternated with surf bathing with only a day or so intervening.
Automobiles capable of traveling the white mantled canyon roads carry beach residents to snow in comparatively few hours. Not so long ago horseback riders took days for the

GREAT FALLS GIVES
KEARNS GLAD HAND
GREAT FALLS, Mont., May 19.—Jack Kearns, manager of Jack Dempsey, was accorded a demonstration of huge proportions when he stepped from the train here last night.
Kearna in a statement to the International News Service this morning said that in all likelihood the champion would meet Harry Willis, negro contender for the heavyweight crown, at New York or Jersey City on Labor Day. Dempsey is said to be in excellent condition and present plans call for only moderate training up to three weeks before the flight on July 4. Light workouts to start Saturday.
Ten sparring partners have been engaged by the champion to work with him during the conditioning process. Harry Drake and Billy Welts, engaged by Kearna in the east will arrive Sunday. Babe Herman, featheryweight and "Tiny Jim" Herman, Omaha-heavyweight have been added to the champion's retinue of workers.
