Mulcanby, state commander of the legion. Molumby declared that the bout will be staged under the auspices of the Legion, and said that he would start proceeding immediately to have O. C. Lamport, Logon adjutant, who is bitterly opposing the fight, ousted from his office. Walter Neubert, editor of the Service Star, Legion publication, said Friday that a majority of posts in the state favor the bout and pointed out that 50% of the net receipts will go toward the construction of a veteran's hospital in Montana, as provided in the state boxing law. MULLIGAN CASE MAY HIT McCARTHY (By International News Service) LOS ANGELES, April 20.—That the Eddie Mulligan case may be the means of prying Bill McCarthy out of the Coast League presidential chair is the belief of some local baseball men. Oscar Reichow, business manager of the Angels, had written direct to Baseball Commissioner K. M. Landis, asking for a ruling on the Mulligan case. If Landis says Mulligan signed a Racine contract and that his status is the same as that of Jim Vaughn, former Cub pitcher, who was put out for three years by Landis for signing with Beloit, McCarthy will be asked to suspend the Seal third baseman. Bill Lane, president of the Salt Lake Club, under whom Mulligan played for two seasons, says he is hoping that the didder did not. BASEBALL STANDINGS W. L. Pet. Matchmaker Billy Darnley announces an exceptionally strong feature attraction in Leo Matlock, the blonde San Francisco fighter, and that fast ecdored middleweight, Blackie Rice, of Los Angeles. Matlock is well known for the many strolling battles he has engaged in recently at Hollywood and Vernon. He and Geo. Lamson furnished Hollywood fans a great contest last week. Blackie Rice is a shifty workman and carried a man's wallop in both mitts. He gave Young "Dynamite" George a battle for his life at San Bernardino last night. For the remi-windup, Darnley has signed Young Terry and Billy Maxwell. There is sure to be something doing as both are willing mixers and pack a mean punch. Terry is improving with every start. Maxwell is on the Hollywood program tonight with Maurice Weir of Frisco. The preliminaries will be of the red hot variety. FOIL ATTEMPT TO FLEE SAN QUENTIN (By International News Service) SAN QUENTIN, Calif., April 20.—An investigation was under way today to determine whether additional prisoners were involved in a clever escape plot discovered here when four holes were found bored in the floor of a cell occupied by Harold Benman, under life sentence from Los Angeles, and Arthur Clifford, serving a five year sentence from Los Angeles. The holes were bored at corners of a large square which was to have been sawed out. This would have permitted prisoners from the cell below to impersonate the two men while the cell count was being made, thus enabling the plotters to "hide Ocefr Reichow, business manager of the Angels, had written direct to Baseball Commissioner K. Bill Lane, president of the Salt Lake Club, under whom Mulligan played for two seasons, says he is hoping that the infielder did not sign with Racine. Without Mulligan the chances of the Seals grabbing the flag once more would be cut in half. 200 WILL COMPETE IN REDLANDS MEET (By International News Service) REDLANDS, April 20.—Southern California's greatest annual track and field meet, the amateur athletic association, will come back into the spot light at varsity field here tomorrow afternoon. It is expected that more than 200 athletes representing high schools, as well as colleges throughout So. Calif., will compete. BANDITS FOOLED SEATTLE, April 20.—Five young bandits equipped with a speedy automobile raided the premises of a local cigar company early today and loaded 44 boxes, presumably containing expensive cigars, into their machine. They disappeared amid a hall of bullets from police automatics. A check of the stock showed that the bandits had stolen dummy cigar boxes used for advertising purposes.
