RE-MAP AND RE-SIGN 3 COUNTIES
Motorists who travel through Southern California will find a flock of brand new signs on many roads in the near future according to a notice just issued by the Auto Club of Southern California.
Crews have just completed the surveying of Riverside, Orange and San Bernardino counties for new road signs and maps. Every road in these counties which is possible to motorists will be marked.
Plans are now under way to resign the route leading from the So. part of the state to Carson City, Nevada, by way of the Owen Valley road. This improvement route will not only be marked with direction signs, but the Club will indicate the names of all tributary roads leading into it and creeks which cross it will be named correctly on the signs.
The coast route from Mexico City to the Monterey County lines in the north has just been completely re-signed and is in such condition that eastern visitors in California can find their way along its entire length with no difficulty. The inland route is completey re-signed now from Los Angeles to San Diego.
Word has just been received here from the sign posting department of Auto Club that the coast highway in Mexico from Tia Janana to Esenada.

Word has just been received here from the sign posting department of Auto Club that the coast highway in Mexico from Tla Junna to Esenada, a distance of ninety miles, is in passable condition if there has been no rain. The sign posting crew has just finished placing the brand new signs in this "foreign" territory. Altho the Mexican road is not difficult to follow, the Club believes that on account of the large number of sportmen travelling in lower California from the United States, it is important to have dangerous curves and short detours marked with official signs.
At the present time an extensive survey of San Diego and Imperial Counties is being made for new maps and new road signs which will completely cover this district.
American cars are sold regularly to some of the highest executives the world over. Three Sultans in Straits Settlements and the Federated Malay States are among the recent purchasers of 1923 models. The buyers were the Sultan of Jahore, the Sultan of Kolantan and the Sultan of Trengganu, according to information received by the Hupp Motor Car Corporation from its Singapore distributor.

Over 200 Chevrolets In 4 Months Forecast
Is the Chevrolet selling? Frank P. Taggart, Northern Orange distributor, will say so.
With a January which pulled down the average, Taggart and his men sold 63 new cars in March( 62 in Febraury and expect to go well over the 200 mark for the first four months of the year. Also forty used cars were sold the past month.
The company is still receiving cars in trade, and guarantees an accurate and fair diagnosis of a used car's condition and its value.
No difficulty has been found in selling used cars that are traded in for new ones, because the firm is satisfied with a fair profit.

TROUT IN BIG BEAR RECORD
There are more trout in Big Bear Lake than in any year since 1917, according to Fish and Game Warden Culver. Weights range from four to 10 pounds. Between 5,000,000 and 5,000,000 spawn are expected this year.
FOREMAN DESCRIBES BUICK'S EVOLUTION
Buick owners of today do not realize the wonderful advancement in Buick automobiles since the factory first started to make them. At least most of them don't say Art Stewart shop foreman of the Anaheim Auto Co.
Just look back to the first Buicks the old two cylinder type with the starting crank on the side, which meant it must be cranked when the motor is stopped. And they sure knew how to stop, too. But it was not due to heavy traffic, there was none at that time. There was not much choice to the public what car to buy, there were only a few that could run. Many have dropped from the market entirely and out of the companies which were making cars then there are about three left that still are manufacturing automobiles and Buick leads them all in every way. The number of cars on the road yearly output and also size of the factory back of it.
How many remember when gasoline tested 78 and could not be drawn after sundown by order of the city laws. At that time it would burn if you pug a match anywhere near it.

Peugeot, Mercedes Have Knight Motor
There is nothing that tries a motor like speed, says the J. E. Walter Co. When, therefore, such cars as the Peugeot of France and the Mercedes of Germany use the Knight sleeve valve motor, there's a reason for it. The local concern has just taken over the distribution of the Willys-Knight and Overland cars.
The famous Daimler of England, Panhard, Mors and Voisin of France and Minerva of Belgium, also use this American motor.
Most motors lose rapidly in efficiency as carbon accumulates.
The Knight motor improves. The carbon increases instead of decreasing the compression. There is no com

When there were no magnetos or windshields?
But there were just as many Buicks on the road then as there is now in proportion to the number of autos.
The present model Buicks are as much in advance of the popular priced automobile of 1923 as the Buick when they depended on batteries for ignition and gasoline sold for 7/1-2 and 8 cents a gallon.
Buick automobiles of 1923 are backed by service and parts departments in the far corners of the world exceeded only by one other make of car.
The endurance of the car and the service back of it is the reason most of the cars you meet on the road are Buicks.
Buick owners are asked to depend on the sign "Buick" Authorized Service for the reason alone that distributors must be Buick mechanics before they can put up the sign, as the sign belongs to the Buick factory and to see that back of stitch sign there is a stock of parts and experienced men to install them.

Twice as many said "Willard"
Last summer 12237 car owners selected at random were asked, "What battery will you buy next?" Practically twice as many said "Willard" as said any other battery.
8860 were asked what battery they bought last (for replacement) — and again it was twice as many for Willard.
Performance is the only possible reason.

Does your tail light burn so that people can see it, or does it just glow about like a glow worm?
It is sometimes necessary to more than just comply with the law, says the Auto Club. A little common-sense used in motoring can often avert serious accident.
Glaring head lights constitute one of the most serious factors and possible causes of accidents with most California has to contend. According to motorcycle officers, the proper adjustment for head lights would mean a reduction of fifty percent in the number of accidents. During the year 1922 more than $22,000.00 was assessed by Los Angeles courts for fines for faulty head lights.

CRUDE RUBBER
STILL ADVANCING
Rubber is still rising and cotton also, says F. S. Dunlop of the Nu-Way Tire Co., in showing why tires will again advance.
Rubber has reached or passed 40 cents in New York city, up six cents since last February.
The manufacturers now contend that the price cut on tires last year was not warranted by the price of rubber.
Of all rubber imported into this country, 75 per cent is used in tires, according to Dunlap. The average weight of rubber in tires is 8.2 pounds and in tubes two pounds. The weight of cotton is 4.5 pounds.
In 1922 420,000,000 pounds of rubber was imported.
Of the 155 tire manufacturers in the United States, 63 belong to the rubber association, whose output is 50 per cent of the total, the other 92 making only 20 per cent.
TREMENDOUS TRAFFIC SHOWN
More people in motor vehicles pass over the State highway in the vicinity of the city boundary in the course of 24 hours than there are people in Anaheim! This is one of several startling facts brought out by enumerations made public today by the Federal Bureau of Public Roads. Another is that if traffic, whether in people, number of vehicles or tonnage, is taken into account, Southern California isn't getting nearly its share of road money appropriated by the State.
The figures were given out today by County Engineer and Surveyor J. L. McBride. By way of comparison with the trucks, McBride said he counted only 28 between Fresno and Sacramento on a recent trip and only 24 between Bakerfield and Presno.
At the point in question, taking the average of four days, Sept. 29, and Feb. 12-18, 4132 auto passes in the course of 24 hours; 544 trucks (Continued on Page 3)
