ESSEX, HUDSON MATERIALS SAME
One of the principal factors in the quality and favorable price of both Hudson and Essex cars is that they are 90 per cent manufactured and out merely assembled, according to Townsend & Medbery dealers.
"Both cars are made in the same factory by the same working force" said G. C. Griffin, branch manager. "The materials are just the same in the two cars, and the same degree of care is exercised in manufacturing and operation."
"The Hudson and Essex plants are noted not alone for size but also for a compact and schellfite arrangement which permits a high output of uniform quality with an economical working force. Machines which multiply the productivity of labor are everywhere. Each of these machines repeats over and over its assigned operations with a uniformity which minimizes the opportunity of human error."
"The lay-out of machinery and departments is such that when one manufacturing operation is completed, the part under process is ready for the next step; the units pass from machine to machine in a steady, smooth succession."
"Before material enters the machining departments, it is thoroughly checked for every possible sort of flaw."
"These are practical economies which greatly lessen the price of the cars with our skimping their quality."

BE SURE RECEIVER MODERN: BEVILLARD
In purchasing a radio set many things should be considered, says A. and Tuned Secondary apparatus pot.
First, you should bear in mind that this radio set should have in it everything that is valuable. In other words very invention that has ever been patented should be embodied in this receiver. Two of the most vital inventions are the Tuned Primary, Tuned Secondary and the Tuned Plate.
In 1911 most all of the radio sets of the United States vessels was controlled by the United Wireless Company. These ships at this time were equipped with single circuit tuners and single circuit transmitters. At this communication was very limited, 200 to 300 miles being the greatest distance obtained.
In 1912 the Marconi Company took over all radio and immediately put on these vessels Marconi's latest invention, the Tuned Primary, Tuned Secondary transmitters and receivers. Immediately the distance these ships and radio stations were able to transmit was doubled and in many cases tripled.
Today every vessel and land station is equipped with Tuned Primary and Tuned Secondary apparatus. Last year when the demand for radio equipment became so great that factories were working night and day it was found by the larger corporations that single circuit tuners could be built much faster than double tuners, therefore, thousands of this type of receiver were placed on the market. However, there are still several companies, among them the Kennedy Corporation, that makes receivers employing this patent Tuned Primary Tuned Secondary and with this receiver is is possible to gain great selectivity, thus eliminating the stations you do not want to hear and bringing in the stations desired.
It is possible to inspect these receivers at A. Bevillards Anaheim ignition depot, 418 S. Los Angeles st.

CONVERSE TIRE NOW HANDLED BY NU-WAY
The Nu-Way Tire Company this week took over the exclusive distribution in Anaheim and vicinity of the famous Converse tire, known as the handsomest tire in America. The glossy black casing, with its attractive treads, is the one selected by dealers in fine cars to equip the machines with for exhibition purposes. The company claims that fully one fourth of its sales are in this way.
Unlike most caixings, even the best of the standard makes, the rubber of the tread and side walls is all of one piece, says Dunlop. And it is the pure stuff. The bead also is chemically treated and cannot warp out of shape or break except under very extrabriary stress and strain. The body wall will not scar.
The compression tread—named because of the cavities contract with the weight if the car against the ground—is remarkably anti-skid.
Dunlop, an old tire manufacturer himself, says that the Norwalk people endorsed his taking over the Converse, because his reputation, on which their own local success would be based to a large extent, would not be undermined.
Free tubes with both tires.

NEARLY AS MANY PHONES AS AUTOS
There are almost as many autos in use in the United States as there are telephones, says Alton G. Seiberling, vice president and general manager of the Haynes Automobile Company of Kokomo, Ind., says a statement received by the Hull-Wittner Haynes Co., northern Orange-co distributors.
"According to figures supplied by John G. Truesdell, manager of the radio broadcasting station of the American Telephone and Telegraph Company, New York City, there are 14,050,569 Bell telephones in the United States. While there are no official figures available, it is estimated that in addition there are 450,000 independent telephones, making a total of approximately 14,-500,000.
"There are 12,500,000 automobiles in operation in the United States, according to the latest census. It has been authoritatively estimated that to this number will be added 2,500,-000 more cars this year as a result of the 1923 production. Unless the telephone makes the same proportionate gain, the automobile will equal, if not exceed, the number of telephones in America by the end of this year."
"The fact that the automobile almost equals the telephone in numbers is astounding."

The Pennsylvania vacuum cup tire is especially in demand in rural school districts, says John Ruedy & Son, local distributors. Buses have to go long distances over rough roads and must be durable and not skid. Both there qualities belong to the Pennsylvania vacuum cup tire.
The tire is pre-eminently anti-skid and busses can always be sure of making good time without accident.

WILD FLOWERS ABOUND After Heavy Storms
April showers in Southern California are bringing May flowers for motorists to enjoy. According to an announcement from the Automobile Club of Southern California the desert regions of this part of the state are in bloom at this time of the year.
Wild flowers are not as profuse this season on the desert as they were in the past. Word received from the Club touring bureau from the vicinity of Palm Springs and other desert points informs autoists that this year's flowers are very beautiful to behold.
In the mountain districts wild flowers are at their best in April and hundreds of motoring parties are enjoying them to the utmost. In the mountains of San Gabriel County and Santa Barbara County hundreds of carleties of wild flowers can be seen. Auto club representatives visiting the vicinity of Pine Hills and San Diego County report acres of beautiful flowers.
553 HURT IN MARCH IN L. A. ACCIDENTS
Gentle rains threaten to sneak upon the unwary motorist this month and cause a lot of grief for he does not look out. We have with us Mr. Skid', 'Mr. Skid' is not a person, but he is a very dangerous agent nevertheless, declare officials of the Atno club of Southern California.
Don't take a chance It only takes a minute or two to put on chains and it may save several months of grief and expense.
Eighty nine people have been killed in traffic accidents in the county of Los Angeles alone since January. In March there were 533 persons hurt in traffic crashes and during the same month the year before there were only 506 injured.
BRUNSWICK SEDAN TIRE IS HIT HERE
Seventy-eight years of manufacturing integrity is behind the Brunswick-Balke Collender Co., Daniels & Williams, distributors in Anaheim and most of the other towns of Northern Orange County, point out. The tire is making a strong bid for local favor.
The new tire is the outcome of the company's wonderful research department. Most manufacturers build only one type of tire for all models of cars. That's why so many tires blow out prematurely in the sidewalls. No provision is made for the resulting grind which often brings destruction before the tread is badly trapped.
Closed cars are differently balanced and cause a totally different strain on tires from that to which open car tires are subjected. But Brunswick sedan tires come now to meet face to face the exacting conditions that tires must encounter when used on closed cars. From the very fact that the Brunswick sedan tire erders better service on closed cars, it is logical that it will afford even greater mileage on open cars.
Belgian interests have obtained control and will develop coal deposits that have been discovered in Zambia.
