OFFER YOUNG MEN MONTH'S VACATION How young men of Anaheim may enjoy a month's vacation, in ideal surroundings and select company, at no expense to themselves, and acquire valuable training while doing so, at the Citizens' Military Training camps to be held at Del Monte, Calif., and Ft. Winfield Scott, next July and August, was set forth in detail by Colonel Ernestine V. Smith, chief of staff, 51st Division, Presidio of San Francisco, in an opening announcement received here today. The number of young men to be trained at this year's camps will be limited to 1,000 and, according to Colonel Smith, applications already received indicate that more than twenty number desire to attend. "Quality, rather than quantity, is our aim," this veteran officer of the regular army declares, "and there is every assurance that the young California who is fortunate enough to be enrolled at camp this summer will find himself in company of the highest type and he should form associations that will be lasting and valuable throughout life. These camps are conducted by the war department under the National defense Act and, as the name implies, there object is to bring together young men of character and worth from all sections of the country, to develop closer national and social unity, teach the privileges, duties and responsibilities of American citizens, stimulate patriotism, interest young men in the values of military training, teach self-discipline and develop the physical standard of the American youth through military exercises, athletic games and sports all conducted under expert direction. "Young Californians of limited means will have just as much opportunity to attend this year's camps as..." Young Californians of limited means will have just as much opportunity to attend this year's camps as those of wealth and social position for the benefits to be derived are entirely without expense to the students since the war department provides transportation from any part of the state to the camp and returns board, lodging, expert medical attention, uniform, equipment, arms, laundry (for clothing issued at camp), and amenities in the form of athletics, games, and musical entertainments. And all this, without a cent of expense to those who applications receive favorable attention. Residents of California should send their applications to the Chief of Staff, 91st Division, Presidio of San Francisco, California.
