Startling number of deaths in conflagrations are reported from different parts of the country. Not enough attention is given to fireproofing buildings and providing them with means of escape.
Already they are mentioning "the next war," in Europe, as though it were a foregone conclusion that the mighty struggle of 1914 to 1918 must be repeated!

Built Right-Kept Right
In almost every line of business and in all sections of the country Internationals are solving the hardest of transportation problems. You can buy a more expensive motor truck, but you cannot invest in better material or more scientific construction than is found in the International product, no matter what price you pay. The manufacturer of International Motor Trucks, with over 20 years of successful manufacturing experience, backs this product with a unequalled after-sale service plan—a plan that processes every international owner in an emergency. This is accomplished through our free inspection service.
Each International Motor Truck is inspected at regular intervals four times a year, by one of a corps of factory-trained mechanical specialists, or road engineers. This service is free and available during the life of the truck. Do not overlook this feature. It will mean much to you in years to come. When you invest in international Motor Trucks you get the maximum in dependable hauling equipment.
Sizes from 2,000-lb., Speed Truck to 10,000-lb., heavy-duty model, with bodies suitable for every business.

DAY-NIGHT FILLING STATION HERE NOW
What is said to be the only day and night filling station in Orange county outside of Santa Ana was opened today by West Bros. of the Auto Maintenance Electric Company on S. Los Angeles st., south of Chestnut. The station is an ornament and decidedly improves the appearance of the vicinity.
A couple of wash racks in the rear also will prove a convenience.
The station is operated in connection with the day and night service provided by the big shop, where battery service is given at all hours, together with ordinary repairs and storage.
Ventura gasoline together with a complete line of oil is handled from two 550-gallon underground tanks.
Handsome lawns with gravelled drive ways will be laid out shortly.
Not a Comeback in Year on Para-Bells
After handling the Para-Bell cord for more than a year, Sutton & Mendoza, the Reliable Tire Co., declare that they have never had a comeback because of a defective curing. Only three policy adjustments have been made in all that time.
Look about you and see the number of Para-Bell cords in use here and in fact on the highways everywhere you go," said Roy Mendoza. "Even counting only the number of cars with the Para-Bell fire covering for their spare, the Para-Bell is a prominent tire on every boulevard or other thoroughfare in California."
The firm has had an excellent picture made of the front of its new quarters at 200 S. Los Angeles-st., which it will use for publicity purposes.
ANAHEIMER GETS HIS THIRD DODGE
F. C. Eisenhauer has purchased his
1800 Chevrolet Now Daily Scheduled
The aggregate production of all Chevrolet factories now is 1800 cars per day, says Bill Hauser of the Frank P. Taggart company's local branch. Two or three weeks ago the firm turned out its millionth car.
The combined daily output will of course be increased as production schedules grow.
It was only a year or two ago that the Chevrolet company was completely in the doolrums, with its hands in anything but encouraging shape. Now, not only is all that over, but the company is riding abreast of a wave of prosperity such as could never have been foreseen.
GRIFFIN EXPLAINS HUDSON DURABILITY
No wonder the Hudson super-six is called "the car that never wore out" says G. C. Griffin, branch manager of Townsend & Medbery, Hudson and Essex distributors.
"Here is a car in the manufacture of which precision and care are pre-eminent. The exactness demanded in every manufacturing operation, all of the painstaking details are for just one upsep—quality.
"And your assurance of uniform quality is the fact that all of the important Super-Six chassis units are designed, machined and completed in the Hudson factory.
"Machines of the finest and most modern type, operated, by skilled workmen, together with exact ingenious checking dials and gauges, give that absolute accuracy needed in the fine fitting of one part with another.
"These three things—construction requiring only the simplest form of maintenance—easily made adjustments to compensate for wear if you should neglect even the simple maintenance required—and proper design so that all parts function in harmony with each other—these three things combine to give you that satisfaction which makes of each Hudson owner a real superior-six enthnast."
22 HONOR PUPILS TAKE HONOR TRIP
Twenty-two honor pupils of Fullerton Grammar Schools, taken from 6th, 7th and 8th grades, left early this morning for Catalina Islands to pass the day. They left in the school bus for Wilmington where they boarded the S. S. Avalon. They passed several hours in sightseeing and planned an interesting study of the flowers that abound at this time of the year and a trip over the submarine gardens which is truly in keeping with the slogan of Catalina,
"In all the world, no trip like this."
This trip is the first of a series planned for the remaining months for the students who successfully cover the required studies. These trips will serve as rewards. Keen rivalry has been prompted by the announcement of these trips, and although only two from each division can be accommodated, a higher standard of work is being noticed.
The pupils were accompanied by a dozen teachers parents and friends of the lucky individuals.
Representatives from class 8A were Ned Crooke and Marquita Salveson; 8B, Lanier Davis and Grace Holstan; 8C, Howard Stewart and Mabel Colburn; 7A, Theodore Kriger and Marguerita Kroeger; 7B, John Nugbauer and Virginia Shaw; 7C, Henry Yortishundi and Unice Gobar; 7D, Arthur Thompson and Geraldine Graham; 6B, Irwin Chapman and Doris Redfern; 6B, Earl Goodson and Virginia Gruber; 6C, Harold Hunt and Dorothy Chessley; 6D, Burton Herbst and Catherine Swofer.
REPORT CRASH IN DODGING TRUCKS
An accident was reported to local police yesterday in which a Nash, owned by Loran Temple of 743 Locat-ave, collided with a Buick owned by D. F. Naylar, of Huntington Beach. According to the report, Naylar was trying to pass two trucks and was going too fast to stop. Both cars were damaged. No one was reported seriously injured.
ANAHEIMER GETS HIS THIRD DODGE
F. C. Eisenhauer has purchased his third Dodge car of Charley Mann. This time it's a sedan.
E. J. Salter of Buena Park R. F. D., this week got a Dodge touring car of Mann, his second Dodge. Saltier appears to confine himself to Cadillac and Dodges.
Mann this week delivered a used Dodge to J. J. Burkhard.
This isn't saying that the ranks of Dodge fans isn't growing, says Mann, but there is no better evidence of the quality of a car than the same purchasers year after year coming back to buy new models. There is no guesswork in these purchases, says Mann. The buyers know exactly what they are getting, what to expect in the way of service costs as well as gas and oil mileage.
Added to the substantial character of the Dodge, there is a greater attractiveness of design, upholstery and comfort devices than ever before.
Will the members of the legislature "please stand up and define the word 'retrenchment?' Yes, that's all. Now let's have the word applied in conducting the state's governmental affairs.
NEW MOTOR DRAWS MUCH INTEREST HERE
No more valves to grind and lubrication simplified to the nth degree—these are among the characteristics of the Burnett-Brunell motor which has been on exhibition here this week. The motor may be seen at the northwest corner of West Charter and North Los Angeles-ts.
E. H. Burnett and H. A. Brunell are Los Angeles automotive engineers, and manufacturer of the motor they invented they assigned to the Automotive Valves Company of Los Angeles.
The new motor is silent, it is adapted to any engine, whether for truck, tractor, stationary and marine engine or airplane, and is produced with any desired number of cylinders and either water or air cooled.
After the first 57,000 mills of operation the motor was found entirely unimpaired.
Accessibility, simplicity, few parts and the fuel that there is only one sealing valve per cylinder, and it is a power piston with positive action which eliminates all valve grounding, make this motor one of the most remarkable constructed. Power, speed and gas economy galore are made possible. An over-heated engine is almost impossible.
Seventy-five per cent of the engine troubles are solved in this new motor, the inventors assert.

COLDS ARE CONTAGIOUS
Doughs and Colds are contagious and require prompt treatment as they spread or develop into Plu and Grippe. Take no e.g. superglue in Wash of Annes when you can get Foley's Honey and Tar for a few cents and quickly chew coughs and colds. The constantly increasing demand for Foley's Honey and Tar, for three generations, has made it the largest selling cough medicine in the world. PACKING HOUSE
BUY FEDERALS
James the Vulcanizer this week equipped the truck of a local packing house with six Federal cords 34 by 5. James took on the Federal nor long ago, but hasn't pushed it until the company was ready to do so.
He has been watching the Federal for a considerable time and believes that in durability and general value for the money it is an extraordinary fire.
James warms patrons that tires are again on the price jump:
"Quantity production tends to cheapen almost everything including laws.
