CALIFORN THEATRE ANAHEM THE AMERICAN STAG "PEG O Beautiful Star and World—Fan Lionel Belmore, Vera Lewis and Played by the same beloved Laurette Taylor who made Peg famous—who played Peg eleven Beautiful Star and World—FamLionel Belmore, Vera Lewis and Played by the same beloved Laurette Taylor who made Peg famous—who played Peg eleven hundred and twenty-seventh times on the stage. Scenario by Mary O'Hara Directed by King Vidor ORANGE COUNTY'S AMUSEMENT PALACE LAURETTE TAYLOR IN "PEG" 3 DAYS AT THE CALIFORNIA Duncan Takes Chance With Broken Neck William Duncan, who will be seen at United Theatre in "The Fighting Guide," Sunday took a two-to-one chance on a broken neck, and won. He is still congratulating himself on his escape with only a badly sprained arm and shoulder. Duncan refuses to substitute. When there is a dare-devil stunt in the script, it goes for Duncan, if it can be done. In the plot of "The Fighting Guide," Ned Lightning, north woods guide, two-fisted he-man and loyal friend, runs afoul of a contemptible plot involving an old comrade. He undertakes the single-handed capture of a halfbreed Indian, who is an important link in the chain of action. After a desperate horseback chase over rocky mountain trails he comes up behind him on a stretch of level going. With both horses at a wild run, Duncan, coming up behind his prey, and at a distance of some six feet to the left and behind, he crouches in the saddle, and, with a spring like the strike of a rattler, bears the Indian from the back of the flying horse. Both men, locked like two tarantulas, roll down the ditch together. LAURETTE TAYLOR In a Scene From PEG O' MY HEART The work of bringing the masterpieces of the stage within reach of every home, into communities never reached by stage performances, has another striking contribution in the translation to the world of the screen of the famous stage play, "Peg O' My Heart," in which Laurette Taylor made her memorable characterization of Peg which has become world-wide in fame. "Peg O' My Heart," now a Metro picture, with Laurette Taylor appearing in her famous role comes to the California Theater, for three days beginning tomorrow. This fascinating tale of J. Hartley Manners' conception with Ireland and England as the back-ground, and the effin ways and humors and pathos of the motherless little girl providing the main theme, has had 6,608 stage performances in the United States. Laurette Taylor created the role and has been identified with it ever since, even being known as Peg Taylor. It's a tale of an Irish father and an English mother, of the Chichesters and Kingsworths, and of Sir Gerald Adair. Peg's legal guardian; and of the circumstances, amusing as well as heart-stirring, that attend the young girl when she leaves the little Irish farm house where she was born and ventures among strangers to whom good form is the cardinal requirement. As in the stage play Miss Taylor has the assistance of Michael, the famous canine actress with the masculine name. Michael has been with Miss Taylor in all her performances of Peg. The screen production of "Peg O' My Heart" was directed by King Vidor. Miss Taylor's brilliant supporting cast includes such capable and popular players as Mahlon Hemilton, Russell Simpson, Ethal Grey Terry, Nigel Burdie, Lionel Belmore, Vera Lewis, Sidna Beth Ash, D. R. There's realism a plenty in the scene, and it will make the average man who can appreciate just what it means, grasp both sides of his seat. Thistlewhite If you have never been "listening in" or "on the air" as the radio fan says, you have a wonderful treat awaiting you. The other evening I was listening to the concert from the Times. How Uncle John fairly boils over with sunshine, as it were, when you hear him. Well it happened that the man operating the set did not like what was coming in, so with a twist of a knob, what should we hear but some music, which was exceedingly sweet. So we waited and waited to what seemed ever such a time and then the announcement came, "this is K. P. O." Hale Bros., San Francisco. All this was done readily without any outside connection. The whole arrangement was sitting on a table and outside aerial with its cumber-some poles and other paraphernalia. A set you can pack up and carry away, set it up anywhere, and certainly was a treat to hear this latest development of Mr. Lee De Forest. We hear from Oakland, Oregon, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and Denver, all picked up by a loop 18 inches square. Questions and Answers Q. Have you any information regarding the new De Forest Tube?
