YOU CAN'T START ANY YOUNGER THAN THE BANDBOX THEATER PLAN IN ORANGE CO The last few years have shown that the public at large has been taking a much wider interest in the drama than ever before. It is likely that the next few years will see this develop into even greater scope. From all corner of the country come reports of the growth of the Community Theater, not least from constrictions in attendance. There are few cities of any size without a local body of amateur players. In Orange-co the movement is well illustrated. Commencing with the Community Players of Santa Ana, the other cities have taken it up, until now there are Community Players in Laguna Beach, Anaheim, Fulston, Orange and Huntington Beach. So far each of the organizations has been entirely independent of the other, each working out its problems according to their individual needs. The movement has met with sufficient success in each community to show the want of it. Each organization in working out its own salvation has it had no time to exchange ideas, plays or players with the other. And now comes a new idea that will provide an organization to bind the different groups of players into one. Mine Ann Dare of Laguna Beach and Stanley Reed are responsible for the new organization which is now in the process of formation. During a talk they disclosed to each other that each was harboring the idea of some greater Players unit by which there might be an exchange of players and ideas between the different communities. The Orange-co Portmanteau Players is the outcome of this conference. Many people are already familiar with the Bandbox and the Portmanteau Theaters. These are small portable playhouses that can be easily taken down and set up within a few minutes time. The Orange-co Portmanteau Players is the outcome of this conference. Many people are already familiar with the Bandex and the Portmanteau Theaters. These are small portable playhouses that can be easily taken down and set up within a few minutes time. The new organization will own and operate such a Theater. Each community will have its own chapter of the Portmanteau Players with local officers and directors. From these will be elected an Orange-co or Central organization to control the production. Each chapter will be called upon by the central organization to produce a one act playlet at certain intervals. When each chapter has its playlet ready, the casts of all will be assembled and the portable playhouse set up so for instance in Fullerton. Here the audience will have a chance to see the work of the whole county at once. Next night the organization will play in Anaheim and the next in Santa Ana and go on until the entire county has been covered. Local talent in play writing as well as dramatic ability is to be developed and a prize play to be presented with an all-star cast at least once every year. Members of the Santa Ana Community Players will have a chance to see the working out of just such a performance at their first meeting after the first of the year, when Laguna Beach, Anaheim, and Fullerton have each been invited to produce a one act playlet. The Santa Ana Players will themselves produce a one act, the first original to be given by a local author, Stanley Reed. PLAYERS FIND OLD COSTUMES TRYING There was much mooning and groaning at Cosmopolitan studios recently during the filming of the elaborate Paramount production," When Knighthood Was in Flower," starring Marion Davies, which is how showing at the Fairyland theatre. In this day of freedom for women it went pretty hard for the queen, the princess, and the ladies in waiting to confine their waists in the stiff stays which the costumes of the period demand. Miss Davies, who plays the part of Princess Mary Tudor, was the most uncomplaining of the lot and cheerfully donned her stuff, high-necked waist and long full skirts every day. Some of the ladies in waiting were not so happy and several of them almost went on strike when the wardrobe mistook them into the tight garments. Fifteen costumes designed by experts and made at the most exclusive Fifth Avenue shop in New York are worn by Miss Davies in the gorgeous scenes which faithfully reflect the glories of the French and English courts during the time of King Henry VIII. Each costume has its own set of specially designed jewelry. "When Knighthood Was in Flower" was adapted to the screen from the stirring novel by Charles Major. It tells the real life romance of Princess Mary Tudor and Charles Brandon. These vaccines are being rushed to the famine area in charge of Dr.Scheftel who was recently in Rome to receive instructions. Plain Dealer Want Ads Get Results County Plain Dealer. CASEY THE COP ALMOST TWO WEEKS AND THE ONLY SWAN LADEE SHOWS OR BEING A POLKE DOG IS HIS ABILITY TO SLEEP ALL THE TIME!! NOW STUPID-STICK CLOSE TO ME AN'D DON'T GET LOST!! LONG BEACH BEST FOR SMALL DRILLER With Oil Operators. Again and again the Long Beach field has poured to be one of the greatest fields in the west for the small operator to get into. Company after company has gone into Long Beach, secured small holdings, and brought in big wells in a few months. The latest small company to score a big success in this way is the L. H. Mitchell and Sons Oil Co. The little company started drilling three months ago, and a few days ago completed at 3815 feet, a 3800 barrel well. A barrel of oil for every foot drilled is aplendid results. The Acme Oil Co., one of the Vern Dumas "blue tank group" has another nice producer, Acme No. 1 was completed at 3490 and the big well coming in with an initial production of 2500 barrels is flowing through a six and a quarter oil string. Vern Dumas and the companies he organized at Long Beach seem to have come to the turning point in the road and have been getting a number of big wells. Dumas attracted attention more than a year ago when he went out on the northwest front and located the Cal-Mex well. Jack Doyle has something pretty nice on tap at the Clune-Doyle No. 1 redrilled and deepened to 4200 feet. Some four hundred feet of new oil sand was opened up in the deep zone and a good well is expected. 3563 feet of 6½% was set and the well will produce thru a 4¼ oil string. The Henderson Petroleum Syndicate found the Fischer Oil Co.'s abandoned well in such shape that it did not warrant the going ahead and spending a large amount of money to put it in condition to continue drilling. Recent developments on the south slope of the Hill led the Henderson Petroleum to believe there might be a chance to develop deep production. The Fischer well has been standing idle for about a year and during that time the hole filled up several hundred feet. A. T. Jergins is making preparations to bring in a new type of oil well at Long Beach, Municipal No. 2 at 3900 feet and some 800 feet up several hundred feet. Jergins is making preparations to bring in a new type of oil well at Long Beach Municipal No. 2 at 3000 feet and some 800 feet in the oil sand looks like the biggest well the Long Beach field has ever produced. It is Jergins' intention to continue drilling until a thousand feet of oil sand has been opened up. With a thousand feet of sand to pull on a six or eight thousand barrel well will be easy. The Federal Drilling Co. is doing the work for the Jergins Trust and much of the success of the big well when it comes in will have to be credited to one Al Johnson, field superintendent. The McGregor Syndicate is going in endeavor to prove that E. L. Miley was wrong when he quit the Pacific Petroleum Irvine well at 327 feet. The well is located on the south side of the Hill and at the time Miley discontinued drilling at that depth the outlook was not very promising. The McGregor Syndicate is a local Long Beach concern and has taken hold of the abandoned well with good intentions. The Metropolitan Petroleum Co.'s big well started the Long Beach operators with an initial flow of 2500 barrels early last week. The new producer, completed at 3671, has settled down to 1450 barrels and is making a 25 gravity product. Southern California's deepest wild cat test well is now being drilled by the Standard Oil Co. on the Torrance estate tract. Drilling is now at 6600 and the outlook cannot be said to be very promising. The drilling of a hole 6600 feet deep with the rotary is a masterpiece of the drilling art.
