S. gym court. Whittler sends the second and 130-pound teams. They will find the Anaheim hids rough and ready mixers. The first league battle will be played Friday when Anaheim's first and 110-pound teams journey to Whittler. This promises to be one of the big games of the season. Anaheim has an excellent chance for the championship this year. The locals have been participating in several snappy practice games and are showing up fine, reflecting great credit upon Coach Ray Elliott. Another game in the county league on the fifth will be Santa Ana at Fullerton. Orange drew a bye and does not play this week. In the southern part of the county, Tustin is meeting the Hunting Beach beach club at the beach city gym and Capistrano five is playing at Garden Grove. REPORTS THEFT FROM CAR Paul D. Tedrick, of 204 E. South-st reported to police late yesterday that someone had stolen from his car a motometer and radiator cap, a Richfield gasoline coupon book, a pair of smoked glasses and a cigar case. Karl Kohl of Fullerton also reported yesterday theft of a Dodge Sedan from Lemon and Charries-sts. It Pays to Advertise in the Orange County Plain Dealer. SARGUM SPROUT'S TURN-UP PATCH This is the day after New Year's: The holidays are just 357 days ahead. Our New Year's resolutions will have simple time to press by the board before those 357 days roll by and can make a brand new set of resolutions out of the old set for the first day of 1924. New Year's resolutions are like mushrooms. They spring forth over night and are easily broken and fall into decay almost as spontaneously as they sprang into existence. New Year's day proved beyond a doubt that Southern California has a college that turns out real football players. U. S. C. certainly played rings around Penn State. One of the bright lights of the U. S. C. victory was Hawkins, the Fullerton H. S. star. Fatty Arbuckle has come to life again. His bid for public approval has kicked up a great stir among the women clubs and minister's associations. The public is supporting many public characters that are just as bad as Fatty, but Fatty was caught betraying a trust, that of being a sort of hero for the American young folk, and he should suffer the penalty. Fatty could never live down the shadow the San Francisco episode would cast on his attempting to portray wholesome fun and entertainment, so Fatty better keep behind the scenes. They are making a big to-do over Wally Reid's flyer with Dope and Boone. Both are bad companions for anyone and it is to be regretted that flame, but he FAIRYLAND THEATRE ANAHEIM Friday Saturday FAIRYLAND THEATRE ANAHEIM Friday Saturday Look! But, from the wreckage of this machine, which cruised over Penn State at Pasadena New Year's to the tune of 14 to 3, will rise a more powerful aggregation, one that will be favored to romp away with the top honors on the Pacific Coast during the 1923 season. Coach Elmer Henderson will lose two of his greatest stars in Roy Baer and Leo Calland. The former was regarded as the best line plunger on the coast during the 1923 season. Calland was a tower of strength in the line. It will be a mighty tough job to replace such valuable performers, but Henderson has some material coming up from the Freshman squad of 1822 that is expected to work wonders. But, while gridiron fans in this section are clinging the praises of the Cardinal and Gold machine and predicting the locals will be the best on the coast next year, California, Stanford and the University of Washington should not be shoved into the discard. Around the northern end of the state it is taken for granted that the Golden Bears will again have the wonder team. They may, but it is doubtful as Andy Smith joins the majority of his best bets by graduation. At Stanford it is believed the Cardinals will be the class. The showing of the Palo Alto outfit during the season just closed was a great disappointment. When the season started it was believed the AND ON THE SCREEN ELAINE HAD in "THE WAY TONIGHT—FAREWELL CONSTANCE in "EAST The Picture that Swet Also—Yvonne Farr in COMING FRIDAY — RODOLPH VALENTIN LOCAL SCRAPPER AT SAN DIEGO AGAIN Joe Chaney, crack 125-pounder of the local club, again finds himself on the weekly boxing card of the San Diego club, meeting Spud Murphy, star performer at his weight, of the southern city club, Chaney and Murphy are billed as the wind-wind-up but more interest appears to have cropped up over this match as far as San Diego and Anaheim, fight fans are concerned than the rest of the card put together. Chaney has appeared before the southern town fans only twice in the last couple of weeks but he has proved a sensation down that way. Both of his bouts ended with knockouts in the second round, Sailor Joe Grose being the first to hear the "biedies chirp," and Bobby Pierce, a good 130-pounder from San Francisco, being the other unfortunate. San Diego climate must agree with Joe to give him the punch. If he gets by with this Murphy boy tonight, a main event for the following Wednesday looms up big. However, Chaney is expected to have no cinch in winning over Murphy as the San Diego battler is reputed to be a tough customer. FLORENCE AUSTIN CAPTAIN OF TENNIS Miss Florence Austin was chosen captain of Anaheim H: S. tennis squads last evening at a meeting of racquet enthusiasts. Marlowe Jaasen was elected manager several weeks ago. Misses Helen Daly and Florence Austin will work up a practice tourney with some school within the next week. There is much valuable material for a team this year and Anaheim HI should put out a championship squad in tennis-the same as in basketball. Orange-co. tennis season does not start for several months but the students will begin practice at once. There is ample room this year for everyone in tennis and there is a competent instructor. There are six cement and three dirt courts. The boys are taking the same raterest in tennis this year as the girls and bag things are expected by Coach Irene Jacques. WHEEDON TAKES OFFICE Edwin F. CASABA SHOOTERS PREPARE FOR LEAGUE Coach Irene Jacques' champ basketball shooters started active practice last evening to get in trim for the next league fray Jan. 11. Anaheim HI quintet goes to Tustin. Tustin is new in the game this year but has some excellent material which will give the other Orange-co Schools hot battle. Other games on the 11th are Santa Ana at Orange, Garden Grove at Huntington Beach. Fullerton drew a bye. It Pays to Advertise in the Orange County Plain Dealer. ORGANIZE SECOND H. S. The girls have accepted a challenge to meet Riverside Hi last of the month. The girls will furnish good competition for first team. ORANGE LOSES TO S. A.
