GARETH GAINED
SUCCESS EARLY
Early success has attended the Deer of Gareth Hughes, who plays Jimmy, the orphan, in "Format-Me-Not" at the California theater starting tomorrow.
That he is not a bit older than his appearance denotes is well evidenced in the fact that he is only twenty-five years old. His first appearance as an actor was at the age of thirteen when he joined a Shakespearean road company in England. He came to the United States with the Welsh players and later became a member of the Ben Greet Players.
As a boy lieutenant in the war play "Moloch," he made his first big New York hit.
As the juvenile lead in A. H. Woods' production of "The Guilty Man," he made a signal hit. In the J. M. Barrie play, "The New World," Mr. Hughes created the role of the boy, at the Empire Theater, New York. Subsequent engagements with Leo Ditchstein in "The Judge of Zalamea," with the Washington Square Players in Oscar Wilde's "Salome" and as leading man with Marguerite Clark in "Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch" were followed by his enlistment as a private in the army, but he got no further than Camp Wadsworth. After the war he was starred in "Dark Rosaleen" which Whitford Kane wrote for him.
Included upon this great program will be the great Mack Sennett comedy, "When Summer Comes," featuring a real Sennett all-star cast of lovely girls and celebrated comedians. It is certainly some knock-out too, they say.
Also Jack Retlaw will present a special stage presentation featuring Yvonne Farr, noted Anaheim song bird, "My Buddy," the brand new Remick song success, will be featured in this offering. Miss Farr will appear amidst a gorgeous stage setting with special electrical effects.

BIG BEAR DAMAGES
GLACIER PARK HUT
HELENA, Mont., Dec. 20—How a giant silver tipped bear wrecked the interior-of the Many Glaciers Hotel in Glacier National Park recently is told in stories brought out by belated tourists who remained after the regular season had closed and all places had been shut down.
This bear had apparently tired of a herbaceous diet and started out for a change. Finding the hotel closed and no obsequious porter on hand to take his baggage, he store off a heavy storm door and threw his weight against the inner door, breaking it from its hinges.
Then he started to give the place the once over. In doing so he pulled down shelves on which provisions had been stored. Glass jars were broken and their contents scattered around. Cupa, saucers, plates and other dishes all suffered the same way. Flour, bacon and other articles of food were dumped at random.
In the pantry Bruin found several jars of honey. From these he evidently ate his fill without being able to consume it all, and he left the rest for another visit.
