SANTA APPEARS AT BANKERETTES WITH XMAS GIFTS
A jolly time was enjoyed last evening by the members of the Bankerettes club when they were entertained by Miss Vera O'Rourke. The rooms were artistically decorated in red and green streamers and in one corner stood a Xmas tree with brilliant trimmings. Music and conversation were enjoyed for a time, then each guest was given a number. Suddenly the lights went out and far away sounds of sleigh bell filled the rooms, and all were excited as the sounds became louder and louder. The door opened and in came Santa Claus with a large pack on his back. He called the numbers and the guest who had a corresponding number received the gift. When all had their reward for their good behavior, Santa wished them a merry Xmas and made his exit. Later in the evening he reappeared this time in his regular garb, and he was found to be Lee Elcholtz, brother-in-law of the hostess.
Miss O'Rourke proved to be a very gracious hostess and the guests had a most wonderful time. A sumptuous luncheon was served late in the evening to which were served the Misses Mareta Weatphal, Wilhelmine Eitzmann, Myrtle Owens, Murle Gossitt, Hazel Rainey, Evelyn Degryse, Horia Hawley, Dorothy and Elsallie Schollens, Ethel Harling, Thelma Strathman, Wilma O'Rourke, the Mostamnes Lloyd Noland, Thomas Lesey, Evan L. PRETTY SHOWER
GIVEN POPULAR
ANAHEIM GIRL
Although brides elect look askance at showers falling near the approach of their wedding days, the heavy shower of last evening was a real delight to Miss Agnes Weber, who, on Dec. 28, will become the bride of Mr. Glen Stillwell.
The shower was local, however, and fell only at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Schumacher, on West Broadway. It was a surprise to the honoree and consisted of a real deluge of handsome gifts of miscellaneous kind. Games and amusing stunts withoodles of advice to brides, formed the entertainment feature.
The ladies were then invited to the dining room where a delicious luncheon was served. The round table was centered with a large flower bowl, over which was raised a thy umbrella. A small cube of ice below each sibl of the umbrella furthered the shower motif. Wreathed around the centerpiece on the snowy cloth were pine and holly and all was lighted with electric candlesticks. Nut baskets and place cards were appropriate to the occasion.
Miss Weber's pleasure was equaled only by that of her guests who included Merdames L. J. Heffner, Fred Fuller, Wilburt Harper, M. A. Gorton, Aleck Huck, H. J. Effker, Arthur Bevillard, Carl Stoffle, Jesse Coykendall and the Misses Emma Ricker, Lucille Bastalin and Mary, Helen and Marcella Weber, who assisted their sister, Mrs. Schumacher, in the happy duties of hostess.
Jolly Christmas Party
P. E. O.'s of Anaheim and their families, kiddies as well as B. I.L.'s to the number of 60, were merrymakers in the E.C. Rundstrom home last night when the sisterhood gave their annual Christmas party.
The special Kiwanis committee handling Christmas charity today framed its report at the meeting next week, which marks the close of the club's year.
The benefit show at the United theatre last night added a good sum to the charity fund of the club, and in addition to that, two checks for $10 each were received. With one check was the following short greeting received:
"I enclosed my gift to the Kiwanis club of Anaheim, many members of which are my friends and I regret that it is impossible for me to ak your organization to let me become one of you. Your spirit of charity, your quick response to calls makes me know that we of this age of enlightenment are not a money-grabbers. I know that my $10 is going to be the means of making someone happy and I know of no better agency to distribute my contribution than your same Anaheim Kiwanis club."
The other giver is a lady, who like the man above quoted, requested that the name not be used in the club records or in the newspapers.
In distributing its gifts this year, the Kiwanis club joined with the members of the American Legion Anxiliary in sending gifts to the disabled war veterans at Camp Kearny, and has provided shoes and clothing and Christmas dinner for a desitute family composed of six children, besides the parents. During the last month, the club gave to the fund to provide meals for the High Y convention in this city, and also contributed to the Community Service Christmas tree fund.
In addition to its Christmas work, the Kiwanis club has secured funds for the construction of a wading pool in the new city park, where the city's little children will soon be able to dabble their feet.
