GIVE PUBLIC PARK SITES Candidly acknowledging its own substantial contribution to the flood of motor cars which the automobile industry has turned loose on the highways of Michigan, causing a serious congestion of the few remaining open parks and bathing beaches within 50 miles of Detroit, Dodge Brothers, Inc., has bought up 11 of the finest park sites in the lake district north of here and donated them to the state, says an announcement which has reached Charley Mann, local distributor. The purpose of the donation is to provide a memorial to the late John F. and Horace E. Dodge and to "give motorists places where they may have the rpienics, games and bathing without being constantly driven from pillar to post by indignant owners of private property. Ten of the eleven parks have large lake or river frontage and the other is a rugged, almost mountainous parcel noted for its beautiful scenery. The parks will be known as Dodge Brothers State Parks No. 1, 2 etc. In a letter to Governor Alex J. Groesbeck, formally presenting the parks to the state Chairman Howard REPEAT ORDERS KEEP RELIABLE CO. BUSY Roy Mendoza of the Reliable Tire Company has had his hands full this week, looking after business during the absence of his brother, Thomas Sutton, who has gone to Tehama County on a hunting and fishing trip. Sutton will spend a week, and on or about Oct. 1 Mendozaz will start on his outing. He expects to lead a party of Anaheimers to favorite hunting haunts of his. Repeat orders still compose the bulk of his business on Para Bell and Apex tires, says Mendoza. The country is less wicked than the city for the same reason that the sum of two and two is less than the sum of ten and ten. In imitating others, try at least to omit their faults. B. Bloomer of the board of directors of Dodge Brothers, intimates that he would like to see other automobile manufacturers follow Dodge Brothers example and do something to provide outdoor recreation for motorists. Under present conditions he says, it is almost impossible for the man who does not own a summer home to find a suitable place to spend the week-end. PACKARD AIRCRAFT MOTOR IS WINNER The automobile trade still is taking about the wonderful aircraft motor built by the Packard manufacturer of Detroit on specification furnished by the naval bureau aeronautics at the Lakeshurst, N.Y., naval air station. Dependability endurance and officials of the bureau, and achieve Officials declare that the new motor will establish the lowest figure fuel consumption ever reached any motor. Consequently airbodies equipped with the new motor will have the largest cruising radius attained. During the 300-hour test, in one 100-hour and one 200-hour per run of from eight to 10 hours flies were made and then latterly runs 20 and 40 hours without interruption. The motor then was taken completely apart, but all parts were found in excellent condition, without being worn to any discernible extent. Lexington Here in Wonderful Escape How will your car behave in an accident? How will you yourself fare? These are important questions, in the opinion of T. L. DeCew, local Lexington distributor, who points to an accident this week on the Los Alamitos highway, involving a Long Beach man and a Lexington sport model as proof of what can be expepected of his car. The owner who has put the car into DeCew's hands to repair, says the steel running board of the machine saved his life. It also saved the car, which smashed into a telephone pole while going at a lively rate, crumpling up the left front fender and front wheel and smashing the windshield. Damage to the latter was due to the jar of the impact: The body of the car was not even scratched, and it will be a simple matter to replace the missing parts. The driver and owner had been driving a long distance and hit up the pace to reach his destination sooner, when he began to feel sleepy. He finally nodded at the wheel, and the crash followed. Take a look at that machine at DeCew's new place, 111-119 No. Lemon street. LATEST JORDANS NOW AT WALTER'S Five more Jordan cars reached the J. E. Walter Co., this week, including one of the Blue Boys, another Playboy and three other touring models. The Blue Boy, in blue devil blue, has been the talk of Los Angeles for a week or two. With its seamless upholstery in pebble grain leather, a rack with trunk in the rear, big burrel nickel lamps, at one-piece windshield, low racer Burbank top, a wheel base of 124 inches instead of 120, and many other improvements in chassis and interior, this car is a match for the equally famous Playboy. With its big tires and heavy upholstery the car is a model of comfort, while its lines and wonderful finish make it as beautiful a car as ever has been seen at the Walter showrooms. Open evenings. R. For light, there are nickel-balled headlamps of new design, small parking lights near the windshield braces to conserve the batteries; a special stop-signal and parking light at the rear, and a torneau light with concealed wire long enough to serve as an extension inspection lamp. Among the minor conveniences, there are two curtained compartments, in the backs of the front seats, for wraps and packages—between the two there is a disappearing vanity case—and on the dash, in addition to the usual equipment, an electric lighter and an eight-day keyless clock. By providing these and many other things, we have striven to give the owners of the First Phaeton Reo, from the beginning, every desirable thing that the experienced motorist wants.
