LEXINGTON SAFELY TOWS BROKEN PLANE
Edward J. Wohlfarth, president of the Lexington Motor Sales Company at Englewood, N.J., recently put his Lexington Lark to the most unique test in automobile history.
Wohlfarth, who is an enthusiastic Elk, with a couple of companions flew in an aeroplane from his home in Englewood to Atlantic City to attend the Elks' convention recently held there.
While making some exhibition flights over Atlantic City, motor trouble was encountered and Wohlfarth was compelled to land his machine, a land plane, in the water. The plane was so badly damaged that further flights was impossible.
Wohlfarth wired his office at Englewood for his Lexington Lark a car which had already, in one year's running, been put over 27,500 miles of road. When the Lexington arrived, the disabled aeroplane was hooked on behind, and the long run of 174 miles from Atlantic City to Englewood started.
Despite the fact that Mr. Wohlfarth was compelled to drive carefully and slowly, the Lark made the entire return trip on 10 gallons of gasoline, or an average of better than 17 miles on a gallon, and this despite the fact that the Lark had already seen long and hard usage.
Wohlfarth, who is an experienced automobile man, believes this is a record that no automobile has duplicated.

Velie Power Plant is Dirt, Grit, Dust Proof
For the analytical study of the average motorist elaborate charts and photographs of detail are now offered that a few years ago would have been intelligible only to engineers, or automobile men of exceptional familiarity with construction.
An example is afforded in a large and complete chart of the Velie-built Motor which has just been placed in the hands of distributors and dealers for public exhibition, says McGraw Bros., Fullerton, distributors.
By an arrangement of red arrows over a cut-away view revealing the interior of the motor, the main details of construction are readily pointed out. How the entire power plant is made proof against dirt, grit and dust, yet rendered instantly accessible—the advance in cooling system—the silencing devices—the four bearing crankshaft—the improvement in overhead valves—the cup and ball push-rods cushioned in oil—the interesting factors of its freedom from vibration—are all shown.
GABRIEL SNUBBERS PAY 25 PER CENT
Comfort, freedom from vibration and doubling of durability for the price of a pair of Gabriel snubbers! Nenno & Bock distributes them here.
Let the makers tell what these simple little contrivances do:
"The primary object of Gabriel Snubbers is to cause the car to ride easily—to give that soft, floating movement to the car body sought by every motorist. The secondary object is to protect the car from vibration, prolong the life of both car and tires and reduce general upkeep expense."

These acknowledged facts vividly confirm Type 61 Leaders.
In the first place, you are aware that Type 61 Cadillac is declared by European and American engineers to surpass all previous Cadillac records for dependability.
The public, itself, in conclusive confirmation of this verdict, registers its approval of the new Cadillac by buying more Type 61 Cadillac cars than all other cars combined selling at the Cadillac price or higher.
We believe that almost every individual, after considering these facts, will understand the justice of the majority decision: that Type 61 Cadillac is both the Standard of the World and the world's greatest motor car value.

DAREDEVIL GIRL BUYS FAMOUS ESSEX
Three years after Marjorie Dougan became famous as the central figure in probably the most gruelling automobile test ever made, the production of "The Trail of the Arrow" she amazed Harold L. Arnold, Hudson-Essex distributor at Los Angeles by walking into his private office the other day and asking him how much he wanted for the old "S-X Arrow" which she had driven across the Mojave desert wastes in Southeastern California into the depths of the Devil's Punch Bowl. H. L. Grove of Towsend & Medbury, Hudson and Essex distributors, tells about it.
"That old Arrow!" gasped Arnold. "Why Marjorie that car has traveled almost 80,000 miles and been hammered and racked worse than any other automobile on the American continent."
"I know it." calmly replied the young woman. "Why shouldn't I. Wasn't it I that gave it the hardest part of the hammering? But I've given it the once-over and got the boys in your service department to let me take it out for a short test run, and I want to tell you right here. Mister, that it's a bear of a car yet. I think you'll agree with me that nobody else is half as much entitled to that old Arrow as myself." She got it.

NATIONAL CADILLAC WEEK SEPT. 18-23
Next week has been designated as National Cadillac Enclosed Car week by the manufacturers, and Anaheimers interested will be able to see enclosed models at the local branch of the Cadillac Garage Company and in Santa Ana.
Those who want to see the full line of enclosed models all on the floor together so as to compare them will be taken to Don Lee's showrooms in Los Angeles by Branch Manager M. B. Lacy. The Los Angeles distributors will be open afternoon and evening, and appointment for any hour can be made with Lacy.
The service department now is equipped to handle any Cadillac cars that require attention.
The renovation of the quarters at 306 North Los Angeles street formerly occupied by the Taggarr Motor Company, has been completed and the showrooms are among the most attractive in the city.
HUP SALES WILL BREAK ALL RECORDS
More Hupmobiles will be sold this year than in any year preceding, according to reports reaching Anaheim in connection with the possible increase of the dividends, effective at the beginning of 1923.
In the current year Hup will sell larger profits than in any preceding year. Since Jan. 1 shipments have been 25,000 cars, against 20,075 for full 12 months of 1920. Fiscal year best previous record June quarter, shipments exceeded 10,500 vehicles.
It is estimated net profits approximated $1,000,000, or nearly $2 a share, on common, making total of about $2.75 a share for first six months. Sales and profits in current quarter should show nongreat falling off from preceding three months, and if results for the last quarter equal first three months net for year will approximate $2,900,-000,o.r about $5.25 a share, on common before taxes.
