PUSH PLANS FOR AUTO SHOW
Drawings by Distributors Next Week; Accessories, and Tractors Exhibit
Thirty-nine units of space containing upwards of 60 cars, will be provided by the Orange County Auto Trades Association at the Orange County Fair in Santa Ann, Sept. 27-30 inclusive. Herbert Davis, business manager of the fair and in charge of the auto show, announces. It is likely that all of the spaces will be taken, said Davis. The show will include passenger cars only, accessories being housed in an adjoining tent, while farm implements and tracks and tractors, 25 in number form a special exhibit.
Drawings for spaces in the auto section will take place at the next meeting of the dealers' craft of the Auto Trades Association which Davis announces for Thursday evening at George Dunton's garage and showrooms. The meeting will open with a supper at 6:30, the business meeting to follow, after which the members welcome guests of the Auto Paint Shop and drive to La Vida Springs in Carbon Canyon.
Secretary Davis, at the business session, in accordance with instructions given him at the last meeting, will be prepared to provide further information on the plans.
FRANKLIN PUTS OUT FUEL TRANSFORMER
Announcing the fuel transformer, a new Franklin contrivance which cuts fuel costs. The new motor uses less gas and can operate efficiently on a lower grade of gas than ever before, according to a bulletin which has reached Bob White, Franklin and Nash distributor.
Says this statement:
"This new device, which is known as a Fuel Transformer is situated between the carburetor and the intake manifold and prevents entry of raw gasoline into the cylinders. The device is so arranged that vaporized gas passes into the intake manifold without hindrance. Unvaporized gasoline, however, is checked and returned through two passages into the main channel, where it is drawn upward by suction across corrugated surfaces, which are heated to high temperature by exhaust gases.
"It is possible to send the 'heavy ends' gas that does not easily vaporize, around this circuit several times if necessary in order to break it up.
"The Fuel Transformer is not only of great value in producing greater mileage and more power from a given quantity of gasoline, but prevents the entry of raw gasoline into the cylinders from where it passes down into the crankcase and causes 'errankease soup,' mixing with the oil and robbing it of much of its lubricating qualities."
"Operation of the Fuel Transformer is simplicity itself, and it requires absolutely no attention."
Tests have shown that the temperature of the mixture passing through the Fuel Transformer to the inlet manifold is very nearly uniform.
Drawings for spaces in the auto section will take place at the next meeting of the dealers' craft of the Auto Trades Association which Davis announces for Thursday evening at George Dunton's garage and showrooms. The meeting will open with a supper at 6:30, the business meeting to follow, after which the members will be guests of the Auto Paint Shop and drive to La Vida Springs in Carbon Canyon.
Secretary Davis, at the business session, in accordance with instructions given him at the last meeting, will be prepared to provide further information on the subject of establishing headlight stations in most of the cities of the county, for which the county association has been authorized by the State organization. The latter received its authority from the State Motor Vehicle Department.
Anaheim already has two such stations.

Charley Bigelow's record-breaking and trip from Los Angeles to Phoenix in a new Reo six is still the topic conversation among auto fans in Cal. Bigelow cut two hours and minutes from the former mark, ite cloudbursts, sandstorms and awful heat. His time was 34 hours, 40 minutes elapsed. C.W. Amerer, of Dale & Company's branch distributor, is as happy over the achievement as if it were his Bigelow, who was accompanied by Fassett as relief pilot, used an nary stock model stock equipped seven-passenger car, except that he had Hartford shock absorbers and Brown reflectors.
In this race against time Bigelow's experience in the Phoenix road races of 1908-12, stood him in good stead. The only trouble he and Fassett experienced was a puncture on the tour between Cabezon and Palm Springs. Axles, disc wheel and every other mechanical part of the machine stood up without faltering.
The former record between Los Angeles and Phoenix was made a year ago, and until the Reo got busy hadn't even been approached.

Highways in Sequoia, General Grant and Yosemite Go to Pieces
Vacation season is not over yet. Thousands of motorists are taking delayed trips into the mountains and to the coast, according to the Auto Club of So. Cal.
But one of the saddest of facts, as the summer draws to a close, is the terrible condition of the roads within the national parks of California, according to authoritative testimony.
In Sequoia, General Grant and Yosemite national parks the roads have been allowed to go to pieces toward the end of these minor because the park officials believed that auto travel was practically finished.
Hundreds of auto owners returning to So. Calif. report to the Auto club that the limit of endurance has been met in the great national playgrounds by the farmers of the park officials and resort owners in letting the roads become nothing more than dusty by-paths, full of holes.
Motorists are asking that the routes in the big parks be kept in good shape for the public until summer travel is completely over. Other states are keeping their national parks in good repair.
Yellowstone has had 94,361 visitors this year and yet no complaints are registered from that quarter.
JORDAN MAKERS TELL WHAT MAKES VALUE
The J.E. Walter Co., has pasted up in its windows 66 questions suggested by the makers of the Gordon which every prospective buyer of a car will find valuable. Just what makes value in a car is gone into in the most searching manner in these queries. They're on the show windows in plain sight. It's dollars in your pocket to read them.
best builders and America is taking this worthy car to its heart as it never before admired an automotive thing.
Of course the Fordson tractor, the farmers' friend, is not to be and superiority. Look on the wall and superiority. Look one the wall of Mr. Dunton's office you will see a map and that map will tell the story of the popularity of the Fordson in Orange county.
And there is the big parts department and the large garage in the rear for service to the Ford products. It is a magnificent place;
R. George Dunton, in his beautiful business block in North Los Angeles street, can lay claim to an illustrious station in American business life. To begin with he represents some of American's eminent products—the works of Mr. Henry Ford—the universal, the distinguished Lincoln and the great Fordson tractor. Secondly, Dunton is a business man of un and perspicuity, he is equal his distinguished task and he made a host of friends for him since coming to Anaheim.
Dunton has been identified the Ford interests for the ten years. For six years he connected with the Ford agency the city of Los Angeles and four ago it fell to his happy lot here and guide the Fordway in Anaheim. BUICK 1923 COUPE
NEW ACHIEVEMENT
The 1923 Buick three-passenger coupe is on a par with the other models of the new line. It contains most of the items which are included in the complete equipment of its fellows and some that are not. It has the transmission lock, dome light adjustable sun-shade, improved hood, flush door with lock giving access to the large luggage space under the rear deck, cord tires, transmission speedometer drive and aluminum steering wheel spider. It carries the Class A fire insurance rating.
"It is every inch a car of distinction," says the company. "The low all-metal body, custom-built by Fisher, is enhanced by the high lines of the hood, the graceful sweep of the full crowned fenders and the handsome drum-type headlights and cowl lights.
"In this splendid car, as in each of the other thirteen new Buick models, improvements in the famous Valve-in-Head motor, in the springs, frame, and every other important unit of the chassis, have kept pace with the more obvious body changes."

Drivers who want to spend tomorrow at Laguna Beach won't have to drive four miles again over the awful detour which has been their route heretofore, while the State Highway was being repaired. Between Irvine and Culver's Corner's the road has been finished, and a detour of only a mile and three quarters is now required. This detour extends from the Milford road to Irvine and half a mile of it is paid boulevard and the rest good dirt road. The detour begins in Tustin on Main and Bryant streets.
The County Engineer's force still is working on the Alliso grade between Modjeska's Home and the Trabuco canyon, which will remain closed for a month longer.
A passable detour has been arranged: extending across the Santa Ana river, while the concrete bridge over the Santa Ana at Talbert is being raised five feet. The raising of the bridge was necessitated by the filling in of the channel, dredging of
RILEY MAY WIN STUDEBAKER CUP
Harry D. Riley stands a good chance of being awarded one of five cups which will be awarded by the Studebaker company for largest sales of cars. Riley is twelfth among more than 3200 Studebakers distributors in class E, classes being determined by the population of the territory covered.
Sales in Anaheim was paralleled to only less extent by sales in general of the company. And the plants will not be compelled to close by lack of fuel.
Any fear that the Studebaker plants might be compelled to either curtail or suspend any part of their production because of a lack of coal or supplies is dissipated by President A. R. Erskine, who announces that the plants are in position to run indefinitely at full capacity and that the demand for cars is such as to insure such operation.
"We have a supply of coal on hand sufficiently large to operate our plant for ten weeks and anticipate no difficulty in securing additional supplies in the meantime," said Mr. Erskine. "Our other supplies are in the same position. Our sources of materials are not seriously threatened by either the coal or rail strikes and there is no reason for any suspicion of operation at any of our plants."
"We expect to operate all our plants at full capacity indefinitely. The demand for our cars is above our manufacturing capacity. There is no reason and can be no reason for any curtailment of our operations at any plant."

Studebaker reductions became effective August 1st, after Studebaker had completed the biggest seven months in its seventy years' history. And at a time when Studebaker had 15,000 un-filled order on hand. It is a Studebaker policy of long standing to share manufacturing savings with its customers.
The performance, durability, comfort and quality of the Special-Six are recognized everywhere. And here's new proof of its endurance. Studebaker sales of repair parts, covering accidents as well as service, for the first seven months of 1922 were less than they were for the first seven months of 1913, in spite of the fact that 185,000 new cars were put into operation since January 1st, 1920.
The Special-Six at $1525 represents a new standard of value—the greatest value Studebaker has ever offered, and that means a value that is positively unapproached anywhere in the industry.
