MAXWELL MODELS,
1922, ARE CHANGED
The hard and fast rule of keeping a model or make of car unchanged until the new year is being broken repeatedly this year. Turton & Lumsdon, for instance, Maxwell and Chalmers distributors, this week received a Maxwell touring car from Los Angeles with Timken bearings in the front wheels, a new improvement, and other improvements are said to be in the offering.
The local firm points out that it is just this sort of progressiveness that has made the car popular alike in California and Maine, Minnesota and Louisiana. The car's gain in sales in California is becoming so great that the Union Motors, Inc., So. Cal. distributors, believe the demand will exceed the supply soon.
"Word that we have received from William Robert Wilson president of the Maxwell Motor Corporation, shows, shows, however, that the demand throughout the entire country just as great for the Maxwell models as it is here," said H. L. Turton of Turton & Lumsdon. "He advises us that during the first quarter of this year an increase in production of 340 per cent over last year did not take care of the demand, and 2,500 employees have been added to the factory payroll, he said, to increase the capacity output.
Further than this, it is expected that June will exceed even April and May, the record months, in Maxwell sales, and from local indications, we are sure that this condition will exist in California. The first four months of this year in Southern California, showed Maxwell with an increase of approximately 450 per cent and in Los Angeles city, including Hollywood, an increase of almost 400 per cent, in sales over the same period as last year and in sixth position in registrations.
"This, we believe, is one of the most remarkable sales records that has ever been brought to light and even more interesting is the fact that the demand increases as more of the cars get into the hands of owners who are enthusiastic over its performance, as flotting could speak more highly of the Maxwell product."

Authur Cohen, besides being the youngest and one of the most discriminating of Orange County jewelers, youngest Shriner in California jurisdiction, and good fellow around Kiwanis and busy with other bustling social activities, now rides in a Dodge sedan.
The hustling young "Jewel Box" proprietor couldn't quite make up his mind which car to buy, until Chas. Turner, salesman for Charles H. Mann, Dodge agent backed one of the Dodge Brothers beauties up to the curb and hooked up with the Cohen family for a little drive. Cohen brought his trusty check book along, yielded to the car's charms, and wrote out a check in full payment. The purposeful look in his bright young face showed that the writing of the check was a real pleasure.
"It’s about the neatest job I’ve seen, and I just couldn’t resist joining the innumerable caravan of delighted Dodge sedan owners," chuckled the enterprising jeweler. The equipage was immediately covered to the hit with Auto Club of California insurance.

Donovan’s arrival in Cleveland was marked by dramatic incidents. As he stepped off the Pullman, with a great broom over his shoulder, he was given a welcome by the Studebaker band and members of the Cleveland retail organization. Headed by the band, the car carrying the winners and losers of the contest, and 79 other Studebaker cars with appropriate banners as well as brooms front and rear, they paraded through the city streets.
In the evening Donovan entertained the winning organization at dinner. Speakers included Mayor Kohler and Messrs. Fish, Erskine, Goff, Murnane and Donovan. In his talk Goff emphasized the fact that the public and the bankers of the country are recognizing the motor car as the method of modern transportation, and that it is making for a better citizenship by improving the public health through getting people out into the open. The Cleveland organization presented a silver loving cup to both Murnane and Donovan. Biggs, in behalf of The Studebaker Corporation, presented Murnane with a beautiful watch in recognition of the month’s record.
Promptly at 9 o’clock the following morning the parade formed in front of the Cleveland Hotel. Headed by the band, and with 80 cars in line, the procession made for the Studebaker salesroom, where Donovan pulled off his coat, rolled up his sleeves and gave the floor a real sweeping.

Nash Springs Unique Feature for Comfort
The Nash car, in addition to its other merits, is one built for comfort, the Bob White Company, distributors for the Nash and Franklin point out.
One of the outstanding features of the greater Nash six is its entirely new and revolutionary type of easy riding springs.
Next in importance to the engine itself, the springs not only govern the riding comfort of the passengers, but the life of the chassis as well.
The difference in riding comfort (and in car life) between the ordinary type of springs and this new type is briefly explained.
The car is equipped with ordinary springs pounds into the hole, rebounds out and keeps on pounding along until its springs come back to normal. The Nash rolls in and out of the hole without the suggestion of violence or continued pounding.
The Nash springs consist of a master-leaf, an increased number of thinner, more flexible leaves and a rebound plate. When small bumps occur only the flexible ends of the spring are effected—and the car rolls along with smooth, easy motion.
When the Nash encounters a big bump the entire spring is depressed and then the rebound plate comes into play. Its are is opposite that of the other leaves (see dotted lines) so that on the rebound it acts as a snubber, meets and softens the recoil.

Battery station, local dealers for the Columbia battery, states that his policy can be summed up in a few short words—these words being a "Square Deal."
Speaking of battery service he states: "It was only a short time ago when battery service was given outside in front of one's place of business. There was no nice, cozy driveway to go in; no systematized work on the part of the battery men. It was a go-as-you1-please proposition, like the old-fashioned barber shop.
"But what have you today? Every man is served in turn at our service station; it is all done inside; the time of inspection and refilling has been minimized so that it only takes an average of seven minutes for this service. Changing, changing of batteries, the hundred and one things which go to make up battery service has been so systematized that your battery is all fixed up before you know it."
