FRANKLIN CAMEL IN SEQUOIA PARK
A bare two hundred and fifty miles from Los Angeles lies the Southland's great national park—Sequoia—a heritage to be handed down into the ages at the playground of the people, its magnificent forests, without compare in all the world, unspoiled by vandal hands.
Just east of Sequoia the mighty ridge of the Sierra, culminating in the Kaweah Peaks and Mts. Tyndall, Brewer and Whitney, the latter the highest point in the United States, displays a crown of snow throughout the year, while to the north, an easy journey by pack train, lies the great Kings River Canyon. Tehipite Dome is but one of the marvels along the gorge, being a few hundred feet higher than the famed El Capitan of the soft stretches very readily stretches the Camel bucked open with ease.
Haying been without sleep for a considerable period the party hit the floor for the night, but next morning set out bent on new conquests and succeeded in opening the Moro Rock road in 2½ hours, cutting some twenty-one trees that had fallen across the road, rolling a few of the lighter ones off the trail and digging through one particularly agravating snow bank.
Returning to Giant Forest the Franklin party found another car, which had followed the Camel after an interval deemed sufficient for the Franklin party to do all the work.

down into the ages of the playground of the people, its magnificent forests, without compare in all the world, un-spoiled by vandal hands.
Just east of Sequoia the mighty ridge of the Sierra, culminating in the Kawah Peaks and Mts. Tyndall, Brewer and Whitney, the latter the highest point in the United States, displays a crown of snow throughout the year, while to the north, an easy journey by pack train, lies the great Kings River Canyon. Tehipite Dome is but one of the marvels along the gorge, being a few hundred feet higher than the famed El Capitan of Yosemite, and with the construction of a road the Kings River Canyon will become Yosemite's foremost rival.
Arriving at the Giant Forest, Sequoia, on the morning of May 28th after a night run via the Ridge Route, Bakersfield, Delano, Porterville, Exeter and Three Rivers, the Franklin Camel, Ralph Hamlin's famous scout car, set about opening the motor roads to various points or interest in this grove covering an area of little more than tour square miles—the largest of the sequolia groups within the park.
Due to fallen trees and snowbanks the Sherman Tree road and Moro Rock road were not yet open and the road into the park has only been open three days. So, after visiting Col. John R. White, the able and enthusiastic superintendent of the Sequoia and General Grant National Parks, the Franklin party secured permission to open these roads. With cross cut saw, double-bitted axe and shovels, and a little snow-bucking on the part of the Camel, the Sherman Tree road was cleared on the 28th and the Franklin Camel had the honor of being the first to reach this objective for the season of 1922. Not only was the road cleared to the great tree, but the steep Sherman grade and Wolverton summit was cleared for traffic, though cars that followed did not seem to negotiate
Returning to Giant Forest the Franklin party found another car, which had followed the Camel after an interval deemed sufficient for the Franklin party to do all the work, stuck in the one detour made. Later in the day the Franklin made two additional trips to Moro Rock, taking Buell Benham and Herb Maler, of the Kings River Parks Company, on a tour of inspection masmuch as C. H. Greenup, W. B. Allen and R. L. Larson, the Franklin party, desired very much to convince these gentlemen the road was actually cleared and that considerable talent had been exercised in the manicuring of the fallen trees, whereupon Maier and Benham, in the absence of Colonel White, suggested the Franklin party return each succeeding season to perform such health building labors.
There is on foot a movement to include the Kings River Canyon, upper Kern River Canyon and Mr. Whitney in a greater Sequoia National Park. The consummation of this plan will assure future generations a marvelous virgin sierra park that would offer the seeker of rest and recreation a vacation among the unspoiled beauties of Nature. It would provide a playground for the huge population of California in the years to come and preserve those towering giants that have clung so tenaciously to life through fire and storm.
It has been estimated by experts that 20,000,000 tons of paper pulp can be produced annually in India from bamboos and grasses.

1,124,097th Goodyear Tire Made in L. A.
On Thursday, June 8, at the Akron factory of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, powerful sirens announced by 45 tremendous blasts the completion on that date of the 45,000,000th automobile tire at Akron.
A week later the Los Angeles factory of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company of California likewise had cause for jubilation, for Wednesday, June 14, marked the start of the third year of tire production and the manufacture of the 1,124,697th automobile tire in Los Angeles.
Factory Superintendent H. E. Blythe signalled the production of this particular tire by a luncheon to the factory men who actually participated in building the tire—L. C. Ranney, a tire builder, and William Fillion, a tire finisher. C. L. Young of the Goodyear textile mills represented that unit of the Goodyear factories at Los Angeles that fabricates cotton into the cord fabric used in building Goodyear tires.
Included as guests at the luncheon that did honor to the workmen who produced the tire were members of the Goodyear Factory Council, representatives of the sales organization, the administration department, and H. A. Price, manager of the Los Angeles branch.
FAGEOL TRACTORS STAND PUNISHMENT
Nothing makes a dealer feel better than to know that the owners of the tractor he sells are satisfied, for a satisfied owner makes more owners.
Three owners of Fageol ractors of the older type came in the past week and purchased new Fageol tractors. Herman Freese, Melvin Salveson and Henry C. Cordes, all of Anaheim, and all former owners of Fageol tractors thus showed their confidence in the Fageol.
One Fageol tractor in Orange co. has run over 4000 hours with a expense of less than -100.00 for repairs.
Lawrence Sutherland worked 115 acres in 1920, 886 acres in 1921 and his actual expense for repairs is less than $80.00 in the two years. The total is 201 acres, the same as taking care of 10 acres for 20 years.
That is one instance of Fageol economy, and efficiency. We can tell you of many more. If you will take the trouble to call — J. J. Dayne, dealer of H. S. Gelnette, Manager.
PARA-BELL TIRES GROW IN DEMAND
The way the general public and commercial firms are recognizing Para-Bell tires is indeed significant rendering, say the boys of the Reliable Tire Co. It is almost unbelievable, the splendid shape in which the tread of these tires are after 8,000 or 10,000 miles of hard use. In many cases no appreciable amount of treasems worn after this amount of mileage. The 30x3½ cords are six-ply and the larger sizes eight-ply, thus ensuring a sturdy careless, and with the tough and pliable tread of Para-Bell tires, makes a hard combination to beat. Every buyer is a booster and repeat orders are self-evident or the worthiness of any merchandise.
A bench for holding, operating and testing all electrical appliances used on automobiles has been invented by a Kansas Citizen.
25 MILES GALLON
Chevrolet parts aren't needed very often, but when they are the local branch of the Frank P. Taggart Company has a complete line of them, says O. E. Dinnis, who recently came as manager.
To illustrate what a Chevrolet will stand without repairs—a mild, but timely example-Dinnis turned a Plain Dealer man to E. L. Hatcher, who told how a touring car recently had made the trip to Tia Juania without any repairs, without changing the air in the tire and averaged 25.6 miles to the gallon of gasoline. The trip was made by A. L. Hatcher, Hatcher's brather, and Robert J. Hatcher, his son, At Santa Ana they picked up two hikers, who informed them that on a walk from San Francisco they had ridden all but 10 miles of the distance. The hikers rode all the way to San Diego and then continued to Tia Juania.
The two Hatchers took aboard a pint of oil at Ensenada and another pint at Tia Juania, which they thought was also doing pretty well.
They weren't stuck once during the journey, although car troubles appeared to be plentiful on the road.
Dinnis is enthusiastic over the new coupe which has arrived. It's the best-looking Chevrolet car of the entire group of models—which they say much—and contains all the equipment, including cord tires, that the big expensive cars carry. Compact but commodious, comfortable but not overdone, doing 25 miles per gallon of fuel, the car has hit the bull's eye at the local branch agency.

Studebaker Internal Hot Spot Is Unique
(Continued from Page 1)
monly employed in automobile engines, has not successfully met the issue and is decreasingly efficient because of the steady decline in the grade and quality of commercial gasoline. Commercial gasoline of today is ambixture of many characteristic fuels ranging all the way from kerosene, which is heavy and requires a great amount of heat for vaporization, up to benzine, which is light, highly volatile, and is transformed into gas at a much lower temperature. It follows that the application of a uniform heat to all of these different fuels will not completely vaporize them. The degrees of heat necessary for the kerosene elements will overheat and therefore expand the gases into which the lighter elements are transferred; and conversely, regulation of heat so that the gases from the lighter elements are not expanded will be insufficient to completely vaporize the kerosene or heavier elements, and will result in the waste of a considerable portion of the fuel.
Perfect and efficient combustion is obtained in the Studebaker light-six engine by the addition of the new and original Internal Hot Spot.
VESTA LONG LIFE BATTERY
"To insure uninterrupted enjoyment of your car this season it is advisable to have your starting and lighting system inspected by experts at frequent intervals," according to West Bros., manager of the local Vesta service Station.
"In Vesta Batteries there are four patented features which insure longer life. These features are inside the battery, where they cannot be seen unless the battery is opened, but they represent a distinct advance in battery construction."
