Fishin' Is Good
The Auto Club of Southern California has issued a road bulletin in which it says:
With the opening of the fishing season of May 1st, you will no doubt receive many inquiries about the fishing streams and lakes in Southern California, and how to reach them and it is hoped that the following data will enable you to answer all inquiries you may receive.
More than four and a half million trout were reared and distributed last year by the California Fish and Game Commission in the counties of Southern California, nearly all from the New Mount Whitney and recently enlarged Bear Valley Hatcheries. While these plantings will be too short in growth to give good sport during the coming season until late, the Fish and Game Commission has been distributing millions of rainbow trout particularly during the past several summers and as soon as present high waters subside the best sport ever known may confidently be expected.
SISQUOC AND SANTA PAULA CREEK: Near Sulphur Mountain Sprinkles should offer fairly good fishing in the early part of the season.
SAN GABRIAL RIVER: Reached by way of Foothill Boulevard and Azusa. The new cut in the road at the entrance of the canyon is almost completed and is expected to be ready for traffic by May 1st. It is possible to drive approximately 10 miles then it is necessary to hike the rest of the way to the various forks of the stream, which have an abundance of clear water and good fishing trout.
SAN DIMAS CREEK: Reached by way of Foothill Boulevard and San Dimas Canyon. Road passable up to good fishing sites.
SAN ANTONIO CREEK: Reached by way of Foothill Boulevard and Uplands. The fishing near Ice House Canyon in this creek should be good as the waters are clear and high.
UPPER SANTA ASA RIVER: Can not be reached by machine until the Mail Creek control road is open.
BIG BEAR CREEK: Best reached
of the stream, which have an abundance of clear water and good fishing trout.
SAN DIMAS CREEK: Reached by way of Foothill Boulevard and San Dimas Canyon. Road possible up to good fishing sites.
SAN ANTONIO CREEK: Reached by way of Foothill Boulevard and Uplands. The fishing near Ice House Canyon in this creek should be good as the waters are clear and high.
UPPER SANTA ASA RIVER: Can not be reached by machine until the Mid-Creek control road is open.
BIG BEAR CREEK: Best reached at present by way of the Victorville route to Bear Lake, thence by hiking to Bear Creek.
Lake Trout Fishing can be had in abundance at Big Bear Lake, reached by way of the Victorville road, distance 154 miles. Roads are fair all the way. Resorts are open in the Valley and prepared to take care of a large number of fishermen.
BIG BAKING CO.
USES BELL CORDS
The Bradford Baking Company of Los Angeles, one of the largest users of trucks in the metropolis, prefers Bell tires and tubes to any others after long experiments with many brands, says the Reliable Tire Company, which has its distribution here. It isn't a good cheap tire, but a good tire cheap.
The 20 by 3½ has six plies—an unusual feature.
For Bell non-skid cords the prices range from $16.50 for 30 by 3½ to $46.05 for 37 by 5. This is $1.50 to $11.55 under regular prices.
For thawing frozen drains a powder composed of chemicals which generate heat on coming in contact with water has been invented.

48 States Approve New Ford Headlight
A new headlight lens recently perfected by the Ford Motor Company. Detroit, for use on its cars and trucks has received formal approval in each of the forty-eight states now having specific regulations and provisions for tests.
Ford engineers state that the two requirements of any head light are sufficient road-illumination and jack of glare. To achieve this result, it is necessary to develop a lens which throws a strong light over the road, but which so weakens the rays on a level with the eyes of an approaching motorist, that there is an absence of glare.
When testing the new Ford lens, even in those states whose headlight laws are the most exacting, it was found that it produced three times the required illumination of the road and that the glare was reduced to one-half of that allowed.
State officials were impressed with the Ford lens, many stating that it would set a new and higher standard for automobile headlights, and commending the Ford Company for the progress that had been made. Although they are now included as standard equipment on all Ford cars, the new Ford "H" lenses were so designed that they would be adaptable to all lights now in use on Fords.

200,000 CARS 1923 DURANT PRODUCTION
NEW YORK. April 29.— Durant factories will build a minimum of 200,000 motor cars in 1922, accord- ing to a message issued to stock holders by President W. C. Durant, of Durant Motors, Inc.
The message accompanies a state- ment of the finances of the corpo- tation as of March 31, 1922, which is being commented upon as one of the most remarkable records ever made by an industrial concern. It shows assets of $33,492,401.89, with no liabilities other than the issue of capital stock. It shows 28,557 share holders in Durant companies, though the parent corporation has been organized only 14 months.
Accompanying Durant's letter is a tabulation of well known industrial concerns, all listed on the New York Stock Exchange, whose combined common stock holders at the age of 14 years do not reach the total number of share holders in Durant companies at the age of 14 months.
Another feature of the statement of assets is that no credit has been taken for the value of patents and good will, an item that has been vari-ously estimated in the millions particularly in view of the Durant "tubular backbone," patent applied for, an exclusive Durant feature to strengthen the chassis and make possible an unusually accessible assembly of vital units.
Durant says that the company has manufactured and shipped 10,814 cars up to March 31, 1922—more than have ever been produced by any other concern in the history of the industry during the first six months operating period. He makes mention also of the trainload shipment of 500 automobiles to a Durant, California retail dealer on December 29, 1921, the largest shipment of automobiles ever made and the largest transcontinental shipment of any single commodity on
"PUT ON AJAX AND SMILE," SAYS JAMES
The Ajax Tire, for which James the Vulcanizer obtained the distrib- uction in Anaheim and vicinity, is going over with a bang, says James. Everybody wonders why the tire wasn't pushed here before.
And, as with practically every other tire, the cord is trumps. The public has become educated to the fact, says James, that the cord, while often double the price of the fabric, gives as high as three times the amount of service. This is true of the Horseshoe, Ajax or any other good cord.
"It requires 13 muscles to smile and 64 to frown," says James, quoting somebody or other. "Put on the new Ajax tire and smile."
HUDSON IS STILL SMASHING RECORDS
The performances of the 1922 Hudson, which the manufacturers have been checking up on the past four months, shows the car fully is measuring up to expectations, says H. L. Grove, local representative of Townsend & Medbury, distributors.
This was particularly so in the South American roads tests and endurance races. For example, Hudson won both first and second places in the round trip from Rosario to Santa Fe, a distance of 208.78 miles or 336 kilometers. There were 14 other competitors, including both American and European-built cars. The roughest of dirt roads and tracks were used. It was the first time according to Buenos Aires papers, that both first and second places were won by the same make of car. Argentinans drove.
The Hudson speedster was chosen by J. T. McNulty, chief of the fire department of St. Petersburg, Fla., as his official car. The machine will make 70 miles per hour, and its only rival in the city is the airboat Sunshine.
"Its performance is econom-
"NEW ORDER OF CAR VALUES"—PACKAIR
Never has a new car beenceived," to quote from an interview with L. E. Martin, manager of L & Company, Anaheim local Packaiders, "with anything to proach the interest accorded the Packard single six. Scores of criminating motor car owners given us the pleasure of taking them to Los Angeles and having obviously captivated by the remarkable beauty and value offered this new car.
Knowing what I did of Packa policies and methods, I was greatly surprised to see such an advanced and outstanding line of yet I was amazed to find the qualities of beauty, comfort, light we economy and long life, combine perfectly in one car. I feel, and know that the motoring public feel that this car more than other will best express a new order of motor car values.
The new Single Six is furnished in two wheelbase lengths, 126 x 133 inches. On the 126 chassis provided a touring runabout, model coupe and sedan. The inch chassis carries touring sadden-limousine bodies.
In design, the Single Six enjoys everything Packard has lear- through the operation of thousands of the previous model in all parts of the world. Even an expression Capetown, South Africa, had in shaping its plans.
It is long and low, and there are correspondingly low and dressed. This together with longer wheelbase, naturally includes its roadability and riding ease.
Seating in each model is owed to give the greatest poor room for the occupants. The car for example, is one of the most obvious cars of its type on the key. A comfortable auxiliary carefully cushioned and amps forward and folds.
Durant says that the company has manufactured and shipped 10,814 cars up to March 31, 1922—more than have ever been produced by any other concern in the history of the industry during the first six months operating period. He makes mention also of the trainload shipment of 500 automobiles to a Durant, California retail dealer on December 29, 1921, the largest shipment of automobiles ever made and the largest transcontinental shipment of any single commodity on record.
After outlining the company's plan to build 80,000 Durant cars in 1923, Durant refers to the new Star car, the latest Durant creation. "Your company," he says, "has entered into contract with the Star Motor Company of New York, the Star Motor Company of Michigan and the Star Motor Company of California, to produce in the plant of your divisional companies and under the same management a minimum production scheduled for Durant plants in 1923 to 200,000 cars.
Included in the list of assets is an item of $20,988,000 classed as participating contracts, which Durant explains is a comparative estimate of the parent company's share in the profits of contracts with its divisional companies over a three-year period. Other assets are: $3,028,747, cash on hand and in bank; $4,223,902, invested in listed securities (market value); $2,594,130, invested in allied companies.
TOWNSEND & MEDBURY WIN
Judgment for $1160.30 was rendered in favor of Townsend & Medbury of Santa Ana, against Robert E. Reid, also an auto dealer, by Superior Judge Z. B. West. The former concern's claim grew out of repairs and additions made to two Marmon cars.
Gogles have been invented that add depth to motion pictures as they are viewed, colored glasses are also being provided for insertion to supply color.
A new sunshade for automobiles rolls like a window shade when idle and its braces fold down along side the windshield.
The Danish government is planning to erect a wireless station at Copenhagen for direct communication with the United States.
SEE JAMES, THE VULCANIZER FOR THE NEW AJAX TIRES
A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.
The New Ajax Tire by any other name would give the same wonderful mileage. But rose is a good name for that wonderful flower and Ajax a good name for that wonderful tire.

CALL TO MOTORISTS
"Body construction and coach work have also been improved wherever possible. Here and there—at the cowl ventilator, door hinges, windshield and instrument board—greater provision has been made for rigidity, quietness, perfect enclosure, greater accessibility and ease of operation.
"The new Single Six is carried on a chassis, and propelled by a power unit the like of which are not to be found in the field of the lightweight quality car. The frame in the 126-inch models is 71-2 inches wide and in the 133, 8 inches. Both a firmly braced against weaving twisting."
