Chevrolet Commercial Cars Are a Purchase The Chevrolet pleasure car has attracted so much attention that the merits of the commercial cars have been overlooked, says the local office of the Frank P. Taggart Motor Company. Notice is called to these features of the commercial cars: Light weight and correct balance, valve-in-head motor, low gasoline consumption, unusual hill climbing power, high tire mileage because of the economical tire sizes, easy acceleration over a wide speed range, ease of control and operation, mechanical accessibility and completeness of equipment, which includes electric starter and lights, speedometer and demountable rims. Merchants and tradesmen find in the model "four-ninety" light delivery wagon is especially efficient for the rapid transportation of small orders or working materials. Farmers use it extensively for carrying light loads into town or about the farm, and for bringing in supplies or farm equipment. Because of its great convenience and economy it fits in anywhere, and everywhere as an all-round transportation utility. Model "G" light truck is more sturdily constructed with capacity for carrying ½-ton loads anywhere that any truck can go. It is built to withstand all the tests of road and load conditions to which any truck of its capacity is subject, at less expense and with greater dependability. Model "T" one-ton truck has proved its ability in the service of thousands of owners. It shares the rugged qualities of higher priced, heavier trucks with the economy and easy riding features of the other Chevrolet models. It is known for its power, speed, stamina and long life. Kelly-Springfield Tires Misty Weather Is Increasing Accidents Slippery roads, misty atmosphere, dimmed windshields have resulted in a run of automobile accidents lately that exceed in number to those of the winter months, according to officials of the Automobile Club of Orange County. "During the past few weeks," said A. S. Ralph, manager of the Automobile Club of Orange County, "the number of accidents that we have been called upon to take care of far exceeds the number for the entire winter season. "We place the blame for this upon the number of rains we had lately, so unusual for this season of the year. Of course the coming of spring has brought a great many more cars upon the roads, particularly at night, and sudden showers have made the roads very slippery. "It is a very easy thing to skid and slip off the road or to bump into another car when roads are in this condition. Greater caution should be observed by all drivers while the roads continue in this condition. "Be sure that your windshields are kept clean. There are many remedies easy to apply that will keep moisture off the glass, and make it far easier for you to have undisturbed vision. In a mist it is very easy to run right into another car on a dark night." Watch out for the other fellow. Don't take chances. Be careful at all times and help reduce the number of accidents. It will pay in the end. More careful driving is what we need above all other things. "We are doing everything in our power to educate our own members, as well as others, to the fact that the careful driver never returns." FERRY AT The Automobile Club of California has the roads lead from Nogales, has just returned. "Nogales so miles, many miles of the very rough. Noya the road although no pothole is made. ANAHEIM VULCANIZING WORKS S. R. WALTER, Prop. 156 S. Los Angeles, Anaheim RECORD ORDER FOR MOTORS IS GIVEN That W. C. Durant seems to be going about the production of the Star in his usual big way is evidenced by a telegram received by R. C. Durant, president of the Durant Motor Company of California, during the past week, which said in Cart: "Durant Motors, Inc., is placing an order with the Continental Motors Corporation of Detroit for 250,000 motors for use in the Star car, W. C. Durant's latest creation—a four cylinder passenger car to sell at $348. This is probably the largest order for motors on record. "The Star car will be built in all of the divisional plants of Durant Motors, Inc. As a part of this development both the Long Island and Lansing, Michigan, plants will be increased at once to provide for production of 20,000 cars per month, beginning January first, next." REFUTE HOLLYWOOD SLANDERS LOS ANGELES, April 1—The Hollywood Business Women's Club has drafted a letter in which it refutes the slanders given the community and recites the community's merits. Among other things it says the town has a church attendance of 40,000 out of a population of 75,000 and is the only community in America where the Pilgrimage Play is presented. The southern branch of the University of California is located in the community. Renowned artists, writers and musicians are residents. P.” 108 THE ORANGE COUNTY PLAIN DEALER, ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA CLUB NEW FERRY TO MEXICO AT ANY OLD SUM The Automobile Club of Southern California has issued this bulletin on the roads leading south into Mexico from Nogales, Arizona, on the basis of data obtained by a member who has just returned from the trip: "Nogales south to Magdalena, 65 miles, many crossings ever rivers and much of the road through arroyos, very rough. From Magdalena to Noya the roads are generally hard, although no pretense of making road is made. From Hermosillo many dry, sandy arroyos to go thru, and from Hermosillo to Wymos the road is just merely bushes cut out of the road, but all is quite solid. Either have to make arrangements at El Mayo, Furta or Yackt with the Railroad company to use their bridges or be ferried across. In case of ferrying it is very important that a contract be made as to the charges, as they will agree to take one over for perhaps $5.00, and then when they get on the other side the price suddenly becomes about $20.00, and one either has to pay their price or be taken back across the river. From here on to Bacube-rita the roads are miserable. In all instances where there is a question as to which road to take, always follow the railroad, otherwise one is sure to get lost. 75¢ per gallon was the highest charge we had to pay for gasoline." West Bros. will gladly issue a service card to any auto owner who desires real battery service, and explain just how the Vesta Battery works. NEW FRANKLIN 4 PLANT AT SYRACUSE SYRACUSE, April 1.—H. H. Franklin, president of the Franklin Automobile Company, announces that the plant in which the new Franklin Four will be manufactured will be located in Syrracuse. Efforts had been made to persuade the Franklin Company to purchase factories in fifteen other cities. Mr. Franklin announced that eventually the company will produce 100 four-cylinder cars a day to sell in the $1,000 class. Running at full time, the proposed plant will employ about 5,000 men. The payroll will aggregate $10,-000,000 annually. The new machine will be placed on the market April 1 next year. Three million dollars seven per cent preferred stock now is being offered at par, $100 per share, and 40,000 shares of no par value Common Stock at $50 per share. This will provide $5,000,000 in new capital which will be divided in approximately $2,500,000 for new plant and equipment and $2,-500,000 for working capital. Directors tentatively decided to provide plant and equipment for the production of 100 Franklin Fours per day on a two-shift basis. It is planned to reach capacity production about April of next year. The statement made at the time of the New York and Chicago Auctioneers Service Service. You'll Enjoy Miles in your motor. Essentially business-like is this latest Reo innovation, so that its name—"business coupe"—describes both its purpose and appearance. There has long been a need for a car designed particularly for the business and professional man's use. Reo has recognized the need, and provided for it. Men for whom the business coupe was designed—doctors, lawyers, executives, salesmen and many other classes—consider only the utilitarian. A coupe was convenient, but not sufficiently "democratic" for routine service. A roadster answerer the purpose in fair weather, but was very uncomfortable during inclement weather. The business coupe is the combination of the desirable features of the two. It's the car where comfort, convenience and utility are on equal terms. 25 AUTO DEATHS IN MONTH LOS ANGELES, April 1—March auto accidents in Los Angeles co resulted in 35 deaths and 547 injured. Accidents numbered 3166, an unusual total. The aggregate for the first three months of the year was 9276 compared with 7051 last year. SUNDAY RACE LAST IN SOUTH (Continued from Page 1) The five dashes Sunday will offer the most spectacular speed program ever witnessed in Southern California. The race meet is being staged at the request of the speed fans, and the drivers are determined to give them an abundance of thrills before they break camp and depart for the north. The drivers themselves realize the dangers of these short races where they battle, hub to hub, at 115 miles an hour and strain every working part of their motor in the final effort to reach the finish line. They know what it means when driving in tow, if one of the leaders has even a slight mishap; but they enjoy the thrills of the game and they put a "kick in every lap." The favorite in Sunday's meet is Bordino because he has the speed. Tommy Milton, the champion of the speedway, admits that the Italian has five miles an hour more speed than he has with the Durant; but Tommy has a lot of confidence in his own ability as a driver, and in the past, his driving has more than made up Sales Jordan at New $1795 Jordan quality at new Jordan prices has already established a new sales record.
