EASY TO HANDLE STUDEBAKER CAR When J. H. Powell of the county counsel's office in the Hall of Records in Los Angeles got into an argument with County Counsel A. J. Hill about the ease of handling a car, Powell won out by making a demonstration. He had claimed that his car steered so easily that one finger was all that was needed to drive it thru downtown traffic. Hill did not exactly doubt Powell's word, but when two attorneys cannot dispute a law question, the next most important topic they can argue about is motor cars, and so Hill started the argument because he is an attorney. Powell even went stronger and said that he would show Hill that he could park the 1922 special six Studebaker in a hole alongside the curb that was only two feet longer than the car and still do the steering with one finger. It would have been a bet only the two well known advocates and upholders of the law and statutes could not legally make a bet for that would be considered gambling in the sight of the law. Jerry Powell said if it were not a gamble it would be a clinch bet for him. Powell took the car down thru the traffic and parked it as promised and then told the story to the Studebaker dealer. This started something among the salesmen. One claimed that he could steer the car with a string and to prove it practicable went to the corner drug store and got some light twine which was tied to either side of the wheel and then from a position in the tonneau the car was driven down a city boulevard. According to Harry D. Riley, Studebaker distributor for the northern part of Orange-co such stunts are easy to perform for the special and big six models have extra Timken bearings between the axle and the steering knuckles that carry all of the load on the front axle, reduce the friction of turning the wheels to right or left to the minimum. This is a new feature for moderate priced cars, claims Riley. BROLASKI SQUEALS; ASSERTS HE'S GOAT SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 20—A purported history of whiskey and gin withdrawals from bonded warehouses here between June and December, 1920, has been telegraphed by Harry Brolaski to Commissioner of Internal Revenue David Blair, Prohibition Commissioner Haynes and Senator Johnson and Shortridge. Brolaski sentenced to two years at McNell's island federal penitentiary for an illicit liquor conspiracy, complains that others were allowed to go free, while he was prosecuted. ORANGE MARKET IS MARKING TIME The orange market, so far as California fruit is concerned, is marking time at present, said G. W. Sandilands, manager of the Anaheim Orange & Lemon Ass'n., Sandilands added that it was impossible and unwise to make any predictions concerning what the future would be. Shipments of navel oranges in quantity practically have ceased, he said, and the market is practically bare of California navels, following the frost damage, contrary to the custom in mid-February of other years. Florida is supplying the market. Shippers generally in California are holding off shipments as long as possible. Only necessary picking is being done. Among the factors which will count in the future market, said Sandilands, are the size of the California and Florida crops, the quality and to what extent the two crops will be strung out, etc. This applies both to the navel and Valencia crops. At the last farm bureau meeting held at the school house the following committees were appointed by the president, to take charge of the six projects as butted by the county committee for the benefit of the farmers. These were Frost prevention, George Stubbs; pest control, M.J. Pickering; orchard cultivation, Roy Wheatley; legislature, W.L. York; and soil moisture, Ray Frantz. On the frost prevention an animated discussion was held and co-operation was urged, that every rancher be prepared to use a concerted action on such times has been just passed thru, and not rely to much on chance. Major J. B. Chaffee in a communication and several others signified their willingness to assist in every way possible to bring about a safer method of taking care of this great industry. Mr. Drake of Fullerton spoke of the mutual phone system and by a vote determined that the majority were in favor of a mutual system. Mrs. E. Boice and children have taken up their residence in La Habra. Dr. Boice came here several months ago but on account of the scarcity of homes the family remained in Los Angeles. TRADE SCHOOL FOR NEW GUINEA NATIVES SYDNEY, N.S.W., Feb. 20. — The New Guinea Central Labor administration has evolved an elaborate plan of technical education with the idea of equipping the islands with skilled native labor. A site for a new school building has been selected at Rabaul. Instructors will receive annual salaries of about 500 pounds. "The education scheme will be entirely for the natives," said Capt. Cardew, in charge of native affairs. We will teach them engineering and carpentry first, but eventually hope to train them in every trade. We will also conduct an elementary school for natives from the missions. The scheme will be aided by the missions." $25 FOR INTOXICATION Jesse T. Figueroa was found drunk on Cypress-st near Lemon-st yesterday afternoon by the local police and haled before Judge Howard this morning. He pleaded guilty, and fined $25. It is stated that he got his liquor out of town. SUNDAY BIGGEST DAY FOR REVIVAL With more than fifty persons raising their hands for prayer and twenty kneeling at the altar, Sunday proved to be one of the biggest days of the revival campaign which was begun at the Grand theatre two weeks ago by the Harding Evangelistic party. In the afternoon Evangelist Harding preached on the subject, "An Old-Fashioned Home," and in the evening his subject was "The Unpardonable Sin." "There is no more sacred place in the world than the home," said the evangelist." "Three of the sweetest wore in our vocabulary are mother, home, and heaven. One thing though, we don't have homes these days. When a person wants to move now, all he has to do is drive out the cat, put his can opener in his pocket, close the door and he is ready to move. "Many people ask what the unparadounable sin is. It is impossible for any one to tell what it is. No man can tell you how or when or where it is committed, because if you knew, you would commit every sin in the catalogue except that one. You would teach your children not to sin, but tell them that if they are going to sin they must not commit that sin. "Is it possible for a man or woman to go so far that God would withdraw His spirit from them? God says, 'My spirit will not always strive with man.' Jesus says, 'All manner of sin shall be forgiven men in this world except the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost.' He also said, 'Seek ye the Lord while He may be found.' This implies that there will be a time when God can't be found. Some men say they will seek God when they get ready, but it may be too late. You will get saved at God's time or you will never be saved. You don't come to the Father except the Holy Spirit draws you.
