MINISTER AND WIFE GIVEN RECEPTION LA HABRA Nov. 11.—Entertaining over 90 town folk at the parsonage Friday the 17th, and Mrs. Claud Smith conducted one of the most enjoyable social functions of the year. The reception which commenced at 4 o'clock during which time the people of the community were given a splendid opportunity to meet the pastor, and his wife and also to see the interior of the parsonage since it has been renovated. Too much praise cannot be given to the committee in charge of the renovation for by displaying their artistic tastes they have made the home cheerful and home-like it is said. Fruit punch and cookies were served by the hostess and several musical numbers were rendered by a few of the guests. All present concluded that the "house-warming" had been a huge success and hoped there would be many such enjoyable evenings at the parsonage in the coming months. The piano recital given at the La Habra school auditorium Thursday evening by the pupils of Mrs. Florence Rhodes Wilson proved a brilliant success and the efforts put forth by both pupils and teachers were repaid by the evident appreciation of the large audience in attendance. Miss Therese Bessler violinist of Whittier and Miss Marketa Salveson, vocalist, of Fullerton, assisted in the entertainment and showed remarkable talent for artists of only twelve years of age. Mrs. Wilson's pupils are also about the same age and all did justice to the difficult selections rendered, displaying excellent expression and technique. DOUBLE FUNeral SERVICES TODAY LOS ANGELES, Nov. 11.—Double funeral services were held for Mrs. Mary Ann Newlin Coffin, pioneer resident of Whittier, and her 16-year old grandson, Samuel T. Coffin, at 2 o'clock this afternoon, at the Friend's church at Whittier, Rev. Franklin Bell officiating. Mrs. Coffin, who celebrated her one-hundredth birthday on Sept. 2, last, died within a few hours of her grandson, supposedly from grief at his demise. The grandson died of tuberculosis which emanated from an attack of pneumonia a year ago. He was the son of Dr. William V. Coffin, president of the board of trustees of Whittier college, and the first president of that institution. Mrs. Coffin made her home with the other son, John F. Coffin, president of the California Furniture Co., of Los Angeles. She was the wido wof Dr. Samuel Coffin, who died 18 years ago. Mrs. Coffin has always been an active member of the Quaker church. She came to California shortly after the civil war. That morning lameness — those sharp pains when bending or lifting, make work a burden and rest impossible. Don't be handicapped by a bad back—look to your kidneys. You will make no mistake by following this Anaheim resident's example. C. E. Jordan, carpenter, 319 S. Philadelphia-plast, says: "My work is a strain on my kidneys and back. I had attacks of backache and a soreness across my kidneys that made it hard for me to do any stooping or lifting work. My kidneys acted irregularly but Doan's Kidney Pills, bought at Anaheim's Drug Store, soon rid me of the backache and put my kidneys in good condition. I always recommend Doan's, for I know they are just as represented." Price 60c, at all dealers. Don't simply ask for a kidney remedy — get Doan's Kidney Pills—the same that Mr. Jordan had. The foregoing is rather a broad statement but when I can produce figures which will show its financial power it must of necessity mean that I can show you something worthy of consideration. If you are a citrus man the big trees, so radiant in health, thrifty in appearance, with an exceptionally heavy setting for next bearing, will impress you Every inch of soil is absolutely the best in Orange county. I have personally inspected this grove, and have failed to find a week feature attached to this splendid acreage This grove will show an earning power of over $1000 acre for this year Then there is its wonderful location to be considered only three blocks from the new postoffice near the new city park a block and a half from the Park View tract with the church on one street and the High School on the other with a frontage on three streets Just think what this will mean in a very short time Can't you as a business man see the subdivision possibilities connected with this The only reason opportunity is offered is due to the fact that one of the owners is desirous of returning East You can purchase this wonderful grove at a very reasonable price Just fumigated. 5 acres of 5-year-old Valencias that would do your heart good to see The trees have an exceptionally heavy setting for next year, with every indication of sizing up well Soil conditions fine There is a nice home, all modern with garage which makes this proposition exceptionally attractive We doubt if there is another 5 acres which can compare with this Anyone purchasing this beautiful grove will feel greatly satisfied especially when the fruit colors up Better look into this before it is too late.
