SPORTING EVENTS
ANAHEIM ASSURED WINTER BASEBALL
Winter baseball is assured for North Orange-co as a result of the banquet tendered the championship Elks team last night by the Oyster Loaf Cafe. It was a mighty good feed, and with it tucked under their belts, every athlete was keen for more baseball. It might mean more such dinners.
The team will not play under the Elks moniker during the winter. However, it was believed it would be a good idea to keep together during the winter in anticipation of another stiff race for the state championship next summer.
The first game will be with Gene Murphy's crew next Sunday. This game was rained out last Sunday.
The athletes favor getting into a league of some kind as it requires a race of some kind to draw crowds. Some that it might be possible to form an Orange-co league with Santa Ana, Brea and similar teams to compose the opposition. Pete Hax will go to Los Angeles tomorrow to interview the bowers that be, behind the Class AA league including Haas-Cox, Redondo, Ventura and such teams.
Everyone was at the big feed last night except Archie Hawkins who, it was reported, has become a benedict, and Curly McClain, the doctor has ordered to bed for six weeks because of kidney trouble.
After the banquet, the athletes took in the show at the California.
High School Notes
The Orange-co Athletic Ass'n for girls met this afternoon with Miss Irene Jacques in the Gym room to consider admitting the Tustin and Garden Grove high schools into the league. The coaches from these new schools were not present at the first meeting of the year and plans for their admittance were not made.
The senior girls were selling ice cream sodas in the cafeteria room today. The proceeds go toward the annual

HOUSING SHORTAGE CUTS LABOR SUPPLY
"Unless Orange-co provides better housing facilities for its working people, it will continually be confronted with a labor shortage during the critical fall season," stated Manager Hodgkins of Industrial Relations Dept., of the Calif. Fruit Grower's Supply Co. Continuing on this important question, Mr. Hodgkins pointed out that many companies and sectibles had solved this problem by providing comfortable houses for their working people, cliting as examples the Limoneira Co. and Santa Paula Fruit Assn. of Ventura-co, canning companies all over So. Calif., La Habra Citrus Assn., of La Habra, and the San Joaquin Fruit Co., of Tustin, and many others.
"Orange-co is the wealthiest county in the state per area and in spite of this fact and that there is a large percentage of young people."

U. S. STEEL CORP.
FLAYED AS ENEMY
WASHINGTON, Oct. 26.—The United States Steel corporation was charged today with being "the greatest enemy to industrial peace in this country," by Samuel Untermyer, New York attorney, before the senate committee investigating the civil warfare between the operators and miners in the West Virginia coal fields. Untermyer said he understood the steel corporation is "normally interested" in the West Virginia mine fields. The continued disorders in West Virginia are "but a local manifestation of national industrial unrest," Untermyer said.

The public utilities committee of the Orange-co farm bureau announces that it has made arrangements with R. L. Loucks to act as consulting engineer in connection with the installation of new pumping plants or the re-modeling of old ones in any case where the farmers desire to avail themselves of his services.
His work will consist of checking the depth of the well and from that the farmer desires to pump, he will coupled with the amount of water figure out the proper size of motor and pump equipment to do the work but he will in no case specify any particular make as he is in no way connected with any of the electric or pumping machinery supply houses.
After the farmer's installation is completed in accordance with his contract Mr. Loucks wil run a test on the plant and find out for sure that the farmer is getting what his contract calls for.
Mr. Loucks' services will be especially valuable in all cases where the farmer has to re-model his plant to provide for lowering of the water level in his well to guard against installing a motor larger than is necessary to do the work and thus secure for the farmer the lowest possible power rate for the amount of work he needs to have done.
Thru the arrangement made Mr. Loucks will give farm bureau members the advantage of a 25 pct discount over farmers who are not members. His rates are very reasonable and full details may be had from the farm bureau office, 508 N. Main-st, Santa Ana, or from E. Suebny, chairman of the public utilities committee, or from Mr. Loucks himself.
Anaheim Pharmacy will give to the first 200 customers making a purchase of 50c or more on Saturday, Oct. 29th, a 50c bottle of Ze Pyrol, for all germ diseases.
