Yorba News
YORBA, July 9. (Spl.)—The celebration of Independence day in Yorba and vicinity started on the 1st, when those that had planned to spend it away from home began to leave, and those that had friends coming to spend it with them here, began to receive the incoming coterie.
Mrs. E. C. Yorba and son, Vincent, went to Hollywood on the 1st on a visit to Mrs. L. Pelapcom, Mrs. Yorba's daughter, who entertained with her mother, a party of relatives and friends.
Mrs. G. Boyles of the Stanley ranch left on the 2nd to join her 80-year-old mother who is sojourning at Long Beach for the summer.
Mrs. A. D. Velasco went to Los Angeles on the 2nd returning the same day by auto with a party of friends and relatives. At Fullerton a minor accident occurred; Mrs. B. A. Johnson, of Los Angeles, who was driving the car, made too wide a turn around the button on Chapman and N. Spadra ran into, and broke into smithereens a directing post of the So. Cal Auto Club Assn, torre out a palm plant and rammed into the water main, where the machine rested. Some paint was taken off the fender and the springs pushed back, but as the machine kept on working as if nothing out of the ordinary had occurred, the gay party once more hit the trail, finally landing in Yorba all O. K. Mrs. Velasco kept open house from then on, entertaining among others the following:
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Woods and Tommie, Jr., Measdames B. A. Johnson and Linda Wright, all of Los Angeles; Miss Habe Woods, of Centralia Mo.; Misses Blanche, Louise and Marguerite Bolssorne, Messrs J. F. Velasco, Jr., Joe and Willie Sanchez, Walter Stadtgergand and Leon Bolsserance.
Sunday morning, Cant and Mrs. G. Guiley, their daughter, Miss Florence, and son, Harry, all from Corona, went to Seal Beach, taking with them Mr. and Mrs. Frank Green who live at Atwood, a suburb of Yorba. Several baskets of well prepared lunch were easily disposed of, the tang of the salt-sea air giving their appetites unusual zeit. (No wonder they said they were so tired—but happy—when they got back! The baskets were empty, so apparently and proved, they be held at Santa Ana and Orange.
Miss Marie Vernon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Morris of Here spent Thursday in town.
and Mrs. M. Vernon who has taught in China the past three years is expected home the latter part of next week. She was not expected until the first of August, but was in a hurry to arrive home as her mother has been in poor health and a friend of her generously gave her her passage and she settled the 25th of June. She will teach in the local school next term.
A. I. Garlen and Foster Maden have gone by Motor to Utah for a month's stay.
Mr. and Mrs., Harry Hoben and Mr. and Mrs. Adam Thels enjoyed a motor trip to San Diego over the week-end.
Garden Grove News
GARDEN GROVE, July 9—The Garden Grove Methodist boys played the Alamitos team a game of indoor baseball at the grammar school grounds las night.
The Garden Grove team beat the Long Beach team on the Garder Grove grounds last Tuesday evening by a score of 12 to 2.
A number of members of the B. P. U. will attend the encampment at Switzer's camp, leaving here today to be gone ten days.
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Knapp and Little daughter, Dorothy Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Christensen, Mr. and Mrs. P. M. German, and daughter, Miss Georgina Mr. and Mrs. Vernon King and family, Miss Vernon King and family, Miss Alma Almeade, Miss Ellie Horstman of Santa Ana, Mr. and Mrs. P. N. Larson and little daughter and Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Pollins enjoyed a picnic at Camp Gordon, above Orange-coark, park, the fourth of July.
Mr. and Mrs. Garneid Allen and family and Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Oerly returned Saturday from a 26 days' motor trip as far north as Seattle. On this trip they visited a number of relative and friends and report a fine time.
Mrs. Buelah Urwick and little daughter Maxine, returned to her home in Pomona Monday after spending several months at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Niles.

Several baskets of well prepared lunch were easily disposed of, the tang of the salt sea air giving their appetites unusual zest. (No wonder they said they were so tired—but happy—when they got back! The basket were empty, see? Apparently and provedly, they were not!)
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Vasques left for Puente on the 2nd, from there going to Long Beach on the 4th.
Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Castile went to Los Angeles, took in the ball game and the Burbank Armstrong's Baby Dolle. (Funny kind of a name for a show for a stalled married couple to go to, don't you think?—V. G.)
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Green, were in Venice, accompanied by Misses Elvine Davignon and Marguerite Dayton. A sumptuous fish dinner and the Pike contributed to the many pleasures of the day for them.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Teed and party of friends hied themselves to Balboa for their day's pleasure.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Locke left on Friday for Catalina, where the sad sea waves belled the ancient adage and were very gay indeed, so that they did not return until yestereven.
Emilie Bolserrane—and—was it a lady friend?—went with a group of other friends first to Little Bear, then to Big Bear, and now with so many bears in the program the young man says he feels like one of them. (Ouch!)
Victor Velasco and his sweet Patootie, also the Sweet P.'s family and others had a picnic at a convenient sycamore grove in Lamanda Park Minor details omitted.
A real and pleasurable surprise was given J. F. Velasco and family, when a young man came to their door and told them a man wanted to see them. Mr. V. told the young man to bring the other fellow in, and instead a big Oldsmobile drove in and there were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Velasco of Tucson, Ariz.; Miss Carmen, a daughter; two sons, Eugene and Frank, and infant daughter, Theresa. Charles is a brother of J. F. and one can imagine the joy of the latter on seeing them all. Charles left Tucson on Sunday and had traveled 650 miles this far, as for eight-seeing purposes they had made a wide detour from the commonly traveled road. Mr. and Mrs. Velasco will visit for a while here and then will spend the rest of the summer at Coronado, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and other So. Cal points of interest.
Mr. Lucio Gomes and family, who had gone to San Luis Rey for a week's visit with relatives, telegraphed Mr. Pete Grijalva of this place to go and of work at the oil wells where Mr. Gomez works, as they had met with an accident, being run into by some reckless autoist, injuring Mr. Gomez so badly that he would be unable to work for a couple of weeks at the

But Not Worn Out
It is Better to Buy a USED CAR of Bob White than wish you had.
—Common usage of the phrase "Used Cars" carries the meaning to many people that the cars are old and worn out. This is wrong. Many people only drive a few hundred miles before turning their machine in on a new one, and for this reason many exceptional values are offered.
—This applies to the USED CARS we offer. Furthermore these cars have been put in first class condition in our own shops.
—Chandler Touring car, new paint, good upholstering and top. Good rubber and in first class condition. Car previously owned by a careful driver.
—Ser. S 16 value Stutz like new. New cord tires, wire wheels, new paint. If you are looking for class see this one. Price right.
—1920 Ford Sedan. If you are looking for an enclosed car, try this one out.
—Ser. 8 Franklin Roadster.
—Ser. 9 A Franklin Roadster.
—Ser. 8 Franklin Touring.
—1920 Liberty Demonstrator. As good as a new car, with a factory and personal guarantee.
—1920 Auburn Beauty Six. (A beauty.)
—Several other cars not listed.
