THE ORANGE COUNTY PLAIN DEALER An Independent Newspaper, Issued Every Afternoon Except Sunday R. WIVERNEK Managur PAUL V. HESTER, Editor Subscription rate—In No. Orange-co: Per year, $2; six months, $1.35 Entered at the Postoffice at Anaheim, Calif., as second class matter. DAILY GREETING TO OUR READERS I would not waste my spring of youth in this diligence; I would plant rich seeds. To bless into manhood, and bear fruit! When I am old,—Hillbouse. READY PISTOL SOURCE OF MUCH TROUBLE There is a restaurateur in Chicago named John R. Thompson who wants pistol-carrying abolished in this country. He would go so far as to prohibit the manufacture of pistols in the United States. "The revolver," says Mr. Thompson, "always has been and still is a mess to any community; it is merely the weapon of the thug; the hold-up man and the murderer; it is impossible to turn it to any useful purpose, as one uses the rifle or shotgun." If criminals were deprived or abused, they would go out of business. Mr. Thompson argues. This Chicago enthusiast goes too far, perhaps, in his arguments and proposals. But unquestionably the pistol-carrying habit is a peril to which the country should not be subjected. The sale of pocket weapons should be regulated rigidly everywhere. PHENOMENAL RECOVERY AT PUEBLO Pueblo has proceeded far toward normal living conditions in remarkably short time. Sanitation has been bettered so quickly that epidemic is no longer feared. The usual utilities are once more functioning. Debris is being removed swiftly and the cleaning up of the city property to rebuilding is progressivelyctorily. This achievement stands out in relief as a monument to American intelligence, energy and promptitude in accomplishing big things! Meantime contributions for the relief of suffering Pueblans are coming forward with notable liberality. Congress has made a goodly appropriation and from all over the land donations are being made. It will be located on the west side of the street just north of Willets Bros. auto paint shop at Elm-st on property leased from A. L. Miller. It is said there is only one other institution of the kind and scope in So. Calif. This was recently completed in Los Angeles. With it Holditch will be in position to supply every conceivable want of the autolist excepting mechanical repairing. The autolist may drive in from Los Angeles-st and proceed along a driveway clear around the Willetts Bros. building onto Elm-st. At the front will be underground air-pressure gas and oil tanks which alone cost over $2000. Littleton S. Baker attacks work of L.A. hospital horticultural commission thru Pasadena-city directors. WOULD BAR FEEDING GARBAGE TO HOGS Declaring that the practice of feeding garbage to hogs which are butchered and sold for human consumption is dangerous, S. D. Teel, rancher, living four miles west of Santa Ana, yesterday appeared before the board of supervisors and asked that steps be taken to stop the practice. According to Teel, the garbage or "slop" is fed to the hogs on the ranch of Dr. C.E. Price. The hogs are then placed on the market. He alleges that varlops diseases are liable to follow as the result of eating pork or other products of the hog. The supervisors took the matter up with District Attorney Nelson, who stated that steps to put a stop to the practice would have to be taken thru his office. It was understood that Teel would swear to a complaint in the justice court this afternoon with a view of preventing the further feeding of garbage to the hogs. GRUNYON RUN THIS WEEK Granyon fans today were looking forward to Thursday night and the two nights following, for the little denizens of the deep are scheduled to do their "tail spin," act on the sands along the Orange county shore line on these nights. They come out with the rising of the moon, scheduled for 10:38 Thursday night, 11:38 Friday night and 12:38 Saturday night.
