ARVERTISING Do they read Plain Dealer advertising! They do. Last night, through a combination of circumstances which would not occur in ages, a page ady for the S. Q. R. department store appeared without the signature of the store. The proof was not only read in this office, but it was also inspected by representatives of the store. However, all were so interested in the subject matter that the fact there was no signature was entirely passed over. However, that didn't destroy the value of the ady to the store. Hosts of shoppera throutl Anaheim district and No. Orange-co recognized the style of the store's advertising and appreciate the origin of such attractive bargains that they too failed to notice there was no signature. Others not so familiar, called The Plain Dealer office. It was a great demonstration of the value of advertising. SHOT MAKES WEST. SAY HARDING ASKS BONUS BILL DELAY WASHINGTON, July 7—President Harding's influence was sought by publican leaders to prevent passage of the soldier bonus bill. Before the excitement occasioned by Secretary Mellon's anti-bonus letter to Senator Prelinghuysen had died down in republican ranks, G. O. P. senators were quietly told by some of their leaders today: That President Harding agreed entirely with Mellon. That Harding had counselled congressional leaders to let the bonus question rest until some solution of the tax problems had been arrived at. Coincidentally with their statements concerning Harding's view of the matter, which they counted on to keep some senators "regular," leaders were preparing other means of setting aside the bonus measure until a time they deem more suitable for its consideration. 'MOTHER GOOSE' IS MOST READ VOLUME CHICAGO, July 7. — Take "Mother Goose" out of the public schools? It makes little difference to book publishers, in convention here today. Syndicate struck a nice body of oil sand, and the well is showing up more promising than it has at any other time. The Laguna Oil Association is making hole at 2455, the formation continuing in the brown shale. The Northland recovered from a long fishing job and is drilling at 625 feet. On drilling out the cement at 1800 feet the Wirsher and Gray Oil Co. struck a lively oil sand immediately. The well is looking so good that an immediate test is to be made. The Nu Santa Oil Co. is making some interesting disclosures. At 1100 a light paraffine base oil was struck and these showings are occurring quite frequently up to the present depth of 1355. Satisfied that going on would be a needless expenditure the Union Oil Co. is abandoning San Juan Capistrano at 4485. From 4000 on the formation showed nothing but a reddish brown shale. The only showing of any importance was a little gas struck between 3200 and 3500 feet. The well was drilled with an electric motor and cable tools.
