BIG LOADS BREAK PAVING IN CANYON Owing probably to heavy traffic in hauling of hay, a number of bad breaks have occurred in the Santa Ana canyon road in the last week or ten days. This road, one of the last pieces of pavement laid in the county, until recently held up well. On nearly all of the road there is a first-class sub-base, and the sub-base has not been subjected to the seepage that has caused a good deal of damage to sub-masses of roads in the lowlands. According to word received here from Corona, the canyon road has been subjected to heavier traffic recently than it has for several months. Tremendous loads of hay are being hauled from interior points. Nearly every hay truck drags a trailer also heavily loaded. Some of the trucking is being done at night. The holes that have been broken in the pavement at some places are a menace to automobile travellers. They are described at "straight drop" holes. To the disappointment of all those present, Strangler Neison who has been suffering with a cold, was unable to grapple with Turk Lagini, of Los Angeles. Double Wristlock Al of Anaheim substituted for Nelson in an exhibition for 15 minutes; no decision. It was a well played game, however, and deserving of a draw, if a decision had been rendered. The main boxing event of the evening was a four-round match between Ray Neal of San Diego and Jack Brady of Los Angeles. Brady weighed 180 pounds, or 15 pounds more than Neal. Neal, using superior tactics, revived himself from a bum start in the first, and brot the decision down to a draw. It was a slugging match, with little or no science. Paddy Dillon, one of the southern favorites, sparred a four round exhibition match. Paddy is always welcome when a real fight is wanted. Kid Moon of Santa Ana mixed with Roy Neal of San Diego for a four round draw. Both boys worked hard but did not succeed in landing any very heavy punches. A draw was all that either of them earned. Mickey Farrel and Kid Fredricks of Delhi wrestled a four round boxing match. These fellows have pushed leather at each other in times gone by, and neither has learned to hit. Kid Fredericks has a stiff-board style. Mickey took all the Delhi protege had with a smile. Mickey seemed to have no ambition to hit. It took no particular mental effort on the part of the referee to see that the fight was a draw. A West Ad in the Plain Dealer Will Bring Results. —Witman, Eyesight Specialist.
