Batteries Don’t Take Care of Themselves
The storage battery requires so little attention that this is really the chief reason why it is neglected by the motorist, according to the belief of the electricians of the Automotive Electric Co., USL service station representative for this district, who express themselves thus:
“Motorists have the idea that because their work in caring for a battery appears quite simple they would be safe if they left the battery alone altogether. They go along on this theory until suddenly the engine refuses to turn over when the starting switch is closed. Then what happens. They dig out their book of instructions or introduce themselves for the first time to a USL service station.
“After this unfortunate experience it dawns on the motorist that his battery, like his engine, is a bit human-like after all, and requires a little attention once in a while. He has also learned that a visit now and again to a USL service station will repay him in giving his battery a longer lease on life.
“Our opinion is that the car-owner should not only give his battery a little attention, but also have a fair understanding of all its component parts. Then he can go off on long automobile tours, far and away from all service stations, and rest easy that nothing is going to occur at the wrong moment.
CHANGE Y. M. C. A. FISCAL YEAR
Those interested in Y work in Orange county were being apprised today by J. A. Cranston, chairman of the executive committee of the Orange county Y. M. C. A., that a change has been made in the date for the closing of the year’s work. Heretofore it has been the custom to end the Y year in May but for various reasons it has been decided to close with the ending of the fiscal year, on December 31, and that date will henceforth be used. Announcement was also made of the opening of a campaign for funds to carry on the work for 1921 and all who have contributed to the support of the work are urged to renew their subscriptions at as early a date as possible.

MAXWELL REDUCED $310 IN NINE MOS.
"At last year's price of $1155, the good Maxwell was considered a splendid value by motorists generally," says Turton and Lumsdon, local dealers.
"When the first reduction of $160 was made last fall, this value became even more striking and the good Maxwell was acknowledged to be an exceedingly profitable investment.
"Not satisfied with this, however, the new and powerful organization worked toward a further reduction and have succeeded in taking another $150 from the price of the good Maxwell, making a total reduction of $310 in less than nine months.
"During this time, they have added many refinements and improvements, so that the good Maxwell, while selling at the 1918 price, is far and away a better automobile that it was in 1918.
"That the public is appreciative of its doubly increased value is shown by the stimulation in sales throughout the country."
A Maxwell touring car to Andrew Lysle of Olinda is among the company's recent deliveries.
LUSK SAYS DEMAND FOR CARS GROWING
The W. O. Lusk Motor company, dealer for the Cole and Gardner, has several sales to report for the last few days. Mr. Lusk of the company states that there is a decided increase in sales activities and predicts normal conditions in the automobile world within a short time.
The list of sales follow:
- Seven passenger Cole touring car with tonneau windshields, windwings, to R. C. Rundstrom of West Broadway, Anaheim.
- Cole Sportster with disk wheels, tonneau windshields and windwings, to N. H. Anderson, Fullerton, Cal.
- Seven passenger Cole touring car, wire wheels; to John Cook, 856 Walnut Avenue, Anaheim.
"We have decided to make the Elgin six by far the greatest value on the market. To do this it is necessary to have a big volume of business. With our co-operation and this in mind, we have decided further to reduce all models $100, making the touring car $1495, scout $1595, and the sedan and coupe $2395. These prices are final and no further reductions may be expected this year."
These prices quoted are f. o. b., factory. The average retail price here is $200 higher, to take care of the freight charges. Today's reduction brings the price on Elgins back to those of two years ago, according to Monkhouse.
