CALL OF OPEN ROAD MAKES WIDE APPEAL
GARDEN GROVE, June 11—Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Allen and children and Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Oertly left last Monday afternoon by motor for a three weeks camping trip along the entire route of the Pacific Coast highway.
They will journey thru the Northwest, going as far north as Washington. They will visit friends and relatives enroute and will camp by the way, weather permitting.
Miss Mattle Brownlee and Mrs. J. L. McCabe, and a crowd of young peo-chaperoned by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Crane of Huntington Beach, started for Catalina Saturday, but owing to the fact that they could not get the boat they had engaged they spent their time at Balboa Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Stillen and daughter, Miss Dorothy spent the week end at Laguna Beach.
Mrs. E. Edmunds and little daughters and Mrs. E. Pearson and two children left Monday evening for a two weeks' vacation at Seal Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Nichols and be-ny returned Sunday from Venice, where they spent several days last week.
Miss Hattie Browlee spent Sunday afternoon at Huntington Beach.

The Rev. Mr. Rollins of the Richland Avenue church in Santa Ana led the singing at the revival meeting here last Monday night and several other nights this week, also He al- wonderfully fine affair and the dinner is to be served by a chef from Los angeles.
Miss Ruth Howerton, one of the local teachers who have signed a contract to teach in the grammar school during the coming year, with her mother expects to take a trip to the mountains the first of July after which she expects to open a class of pupils in both vocal and piano musical instruction.
The L. T. L.'s of the Presbyterian church had a very interesting and instructive meeting at the church Monday afternoon and a good attendance was had. The superintendent read a scripture lesson to the youngsters and the story of Hlawatha was the lesson for the afternoon and was held up as how to be strong for work or play. Firm of muscle and steady of nerve. The lads and lassies are taught to leave harmful drugs and nicotine alone. Hlawatha spent much of his time in the great out doors and was able to work like a man. The T. L. T is doing a great work among the youngsters of this community and the ones who are not attending are missing something worth while. The next meeting will be Monday of next week at 4 p.m., and the subject will be the verses of the Bibe on Rest, Light, Bread and Water.
Over fifty were in attendance at the picnic given by the members of the adult Bible class of the Presbyterian church Monday evening at Balboa Beach. The tables were spread in the glass enclosed pavilion at the beach and were well laden with good things to eat which the ladies of the class are noted for being able to produce. There was everything from chicken noodles, meats, salads, jellies, etc., to cherry pie. Oh! Boy!. After the sumptuous dinner the party kindled a large bonfire on the beach and gathered for games and music.
With the exception of Miss Dunn, who has resigned to move away from Placentia, and who is succeeded by Miss Collins, the efficient corps of teachers at the Placentia grammatical school have been retained for another year by the board of directors. Several have not signed their contracts yet but will undoubtedly do so in a few days.
