ENTERTAINS COUNTRY CLUB
The home of Mrs. H. G. Carlin of Loara-rd was the scene of a pretty affair yesterday. It was the regular meeting of he West End Country club, and as well a shower for Mrs. John Eels.
The living and dining rooms of the home presented a fairy like appearance, with numerous strings of artificial apple blossoms which formed a canopy over head. Pink and white was the color scheme used, and this was carried out in the decorations and refreshments.
During the afternoon which was spent in the usual way with needlework and social conversation, little Katherine Naomi Carlin, two year old daughter of the hostess, representing cupid, came into the room drawing a white wheel barrow. She was followed by her sister, Margaret Helen Carlin who was driving her, using for reins, white satin ribbons. The wheel-farrow was filled with gifts which were presented to Mrs. Eels.
After the guests had all viewed the pretty things, the hostess served refreshments if ice cream and cake. Those present were Mesdames Sherman Hayden, C. E. Douglas, F. H. Wessler, J. J. Omelia, F. Meredith, J. O. Reed, Ralph Mans, Chas. Harbeson, Ida Dutton, Geo. L. Dietrich of Fullerton, Gregg, D. M. Forsyth, H. H. Hunt, W. F. McCleland, J. H. Ritchie, Geo. Rebman, F. Heying, N. McAllister, A. F. Fishering, M. Pierce, M. Wolcox, J. Eels, Geo Tolson, Stevens of Long Beach.
MISCELLANEOUS SHOWER
Mrs. Robert Haillin and Miss Emma Owen were hostesses last evening at a miscellaneous shower given at their home on N. Lemon-st honoring Miss Dorothy Garrison, a June bride.
The evening was spent in social conversation and hemming tea towels for the bride-elect.
Late in the evening the hostesses served a dainty three course lunch-on small tables which were centered with bouquets of cecil brunner roses.
The guests included Misses Dorothy Garrison, Hazel Rainey, Lois Garrison, Hostess.
Guests all being friends from Hollywood.
The hostess has arranged a pretty color scheme of pink and white. In the center of the table, a beautiful birthday cake will be arranged, and the place cards will be roses. A four course menu will be served, the ice cream being moulded in the shape of candles.
Those to be present were Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Carle, Mr. and Mrs. C. Simmons, Mrs. Emma Schroudt, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. McGuire, Mr. and Mrs. Robert McElroy, Br. and Mrs. G. H. Doughty, Miss Irene Carl, Miss Dorothy Carle, Miss Lois McElroy.
PLEASANT SURPRISE
Mrs. C. D. Harrison of N. Lemont was given a pleasant surprise last evening, arranged by Mr. Harrison who invited a number of friends in for the evening.
During the early part of the evening, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison were invited to motor to the beach with some friends, and after they had gone a short distance they returned to the Harrison home, and during their absence the guests had gathered. The surprise was complete, and a merry evening was spent. Mr. Harrison took advantage of the occasion to present his wife with a beautiful new piano.
The evening was spent playing 500 with the first prize for ladies going to Mrs. W. J. Lake, and the consolation to Mrs. L. P. Bonnat; the men's prize to Mr. Frank Mauer, and the consolation to Mr. Fred Schneider.
At midnight supper was served, which brought to a close a most pleasant evening. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schneider, Mr. and Mrs.Vie La Mont, Mr. and Mrs.Tom Ingram, Mr. and Mrs.Billy Lake, Mr. and Mrs.Fred James, Mr. and Mrs.Ed Schneider, Mr. and Mrs.Joe Stroup, Mr. and Mrs.Leslie Wilson, Mr. and Mrs.L.P.Bonnat, Mr. and Mrs.Fred Mauer.

ENTERTAINING PIANO CLASS
Mrs. C. Patrick Bryant entertained last evening for the members of her piano class at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Quarton, North-st. During the evening the guests were entertained with a number of fancy dances by Miss Coccelia Dietrick and violin solos by Joe Bushard.
The rooms of the home were made attractive with bouquets of cecil brunner roses. Aside from the short program, games were played and refreshments served.
The guests included Margaret Collins, Esther Leuschner, Vaughn Nelman Bryant, Nellie Quarton, Frances Merrill, Allene Merrill, Frances Quarton, Vincent Huarte, Phillip Silbernagle, Margery Clark, Alice Cornwall, Margaret Rasmussen, Agnes Rasmussen, Claudina Cerrisosa, Frances Scouten, Jog Bushard, Robt. CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY
Mrs. F. C. James of 125 E. Broadway is entertaining this evening with a dinner in honor of the birthday anniversary of her husband. Covers will be laid for sixteen, the pleasant evening. ARRIVES IN FRANCE
Mr. and Mrs. John Cassou received a cablegram yesterday announcing the safe arrival in Havre of their daughter, Miss Ruby Cassou, who sailed from New York on the 20th, accompanied by her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Cassou, of San Francisco, for a six months' tour of Europe.

Roy Putnam, newly appointed travel representative of the Auto Club of S. Cal., visited the local office and conferred with C. C. Phillips, manager, for the first time today.
Mrs. Van Ardale, who has been spending the winter in the home of her brother, Mr. T. M. Quarton, of W. Broadway, will leave in a few days for Presno where she will join her daughter and family.
Mrs. and Mrs. F. B. Kern and Mrs. E. Zitzmann and daughter Wilhelming, and Mr. Hugo Schulz attended the play given by the U.S.C. department of oratory Thursday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wiekkeriser and daughters, Elizabeth and Anna May, will leave this week for their home in eastern Pennsylvania after a three weeks' visit with their sister, Mrs. F. A. Engler, in Anaheim.
They have been so impressed with California that they expect to return and make this place their future home.
NOTED PROHIBITION SPEAKER AT SALEM
Tomorrow evening at the Salem Evangelical church at 7:30, Mr. J. Raymond Smith, for five years chairman of the state prohibition league of Indiana, will speak. His subject will be, "Keeping America Safe for Prohibition."
Everyone is cordially invited to come and hear this splendid talk.
In the morning, the pastor, Rev. Doescher, will speak at both services, 9:30 and 11:15.
ANAHEIM DEFEATS SANTA MONICA No. 1
Anaheim Elk bowlers continued their winning stride last night by defending the fast Santa Monica No. 1 team in the fourth week's play of the So. Calif.-Elks tourney.
The locals won two in three, before a big gallery of rapacious rooters.
