Her talks were very interesting and she showed the ladies a number of new wrinkles in the work of preparing fruits for future use which will be of great benefit to them. Lake and family and their guest Lincoln Swanwick of Oswego, Kansas, motored to San Juan Capistrano Sunday. Mrs. A. M. Steidinger and laugh, MANY FLOCKING TO EUROPE THIS YEAR This will be a banner year for voyagers to Europe, according to word received by S. P. Willard, of the S. P. depot, local agent for the Cunard line. All travelling records are in a fair way to be broken. Already the demand for accommodations is very heavy, but there are more ships to carry passengers this year than were available during the great rush last spring and summer. "Book early," is the advice given at all offices of the Cunard line throughout the country. The company has no less than 12 steamers in the North Atlantic service. Five of these are great liners—the Aquitania, the Berengaria (formerly the Imperator), the Mauritania, still fleetest ship on the ocean, and the sister ships, Caronia and Carmahia. Three steamers will be supplemented by a fleet of smaller vessels, including the Albania, the new one class steamer, the Saxonia, recently conditioned, and the Cunard-Anchor Liners Camerania, which will make her maiden trip in May; the Algeria—popularly known as the "marble ship" because of her public roofs being lined with marble; the Columbia, well known to voyagers between New York, Londonderry and Glasgow, and the Aberdare, now being prepared to make her first trip under the Anchor line flag. In addition to the new Cunarders, Seythia and Tyrrhena may be completed in time for the summer rush. If so, they will be immediately placed in commission. Accommodations on all the Liner's ships are being rapidly booked for all the spring and summer sailings, and while good rooms are still available, it is expected that the books for the various sailings will soon begin to close, and the rush season from the middle of May until the end of July will find many applicants for accommodation eastward doomed to disappointment. This is especially so on the great Aquitania and the Berengaria, now the largest British steamship, which have a great and growing following, and it is expected to sail filled to capacity on every trip from the middle of May on. The Berengaria's now name was that for those who can pay for it, but it is of excellent quality and great variety. This applies to Great Britain and those parts of the continent that attract the tourist. The obstacles which the traveller encountered after the Armistice was signed, have disappeared. In a word, Europe is not only ready for the visitors but invites them to come. Temporary Delay With McNally Well Drilling Santa Fe Springs Drilling on the McNally well of the Amdigustated at Santa Fe springs has been halted temporarily. At better than 4200 feet the pipe froze. It is expected that this will cause only a temporary delay. Fishing on the Butterworth well is progressing at 3900 feet. There is nothing new to report on the progress of the Wilshire Oil Co.'s deep well until the results of the setting of the 4 inch pipe are known. With 165 feet of sand at 5000 feet expectations are strong for a good well. At 2300 feet a pocket of sulphur gas was struck in the Dionion Oil company's Meyer No. 5. Petroleum ignited the gas and for a time it looked like the rig would be destroyed. Drilling on Meyer No. 4 was stopped at 3848 and a string of 8 1-4 inch set. Meyer No. 2, one of the famous producers in Southern California, has started off on its third year and averages 100 barrels daily of .27 gravity oil. The Bandini Oil Co., had a streak of luck and succeeded in fishing out the part casing, and drilling is now going ahead again at about 3450. ENTER FLOAT IN L. A PARADE Santa Ana Lodge, No. 194, B. P. This is especially so on the great Aquitania and the Berengaria, now the largest British steamship, which have a great and growing following, and it is expected to sail filled to capacity on every trip from the middle of May on. The Berengaria's new name was that borne by the wife of Richard 1, of England, known to fame as the Lion-hearted. The Mauretania which arrived in New York on April 2, after six months' overhauling and reconditioning, is another ocean giant (that is always in great demand). She is still the queen of the seas in regard to speed, and it is an open question if a more beautiful ship has ever been built. She is generally known as the "garden ship" because of the thousands of plants that bloom in all parts of her commodious public rooms. The Caronia and Carmania are also ships of great passenger carrying capacity, and these are preferred by many travellers to their more pretentious and larger sisters. Visitors from abroad say that travelling facilities have improved considerably since last year. In fact Europeans are looking forward to a rich harvest from American travelers and are doing their utmost to prepare for it in such a way that the visitors will be satisfied in every respect. Railroad conditions and hotel accommodations have been brought up to pre-war standards. In fact, most hotels have been vastly improved. Central heating plants and numerous rooms with private baths are now the best hotels. Food reports to the contrary, is not scarce. Not only is it abundant ENTER FLOAT IN L.
