POWER USERS WILL MEET FRIDAY NIGHT
Power users of Orange county will be given an opportunity to hear the Railroad Commission men explain the new rates. Delegations from every community have been invited to attend this mass meeting on Friday evening, April 29, 7:30 p.m., at the Santa Ana city hall.
Mr. Sidney Saunby, chairman of the committee, makes this announcement.
The power users meeting to be held in the Santa Ana city hall Friday evening is a very important one for the agricultural power users and in general for other power users throughout the county. This meeting marks the beginning of what might be termed the general public activity of the Utility Committee of the Orange County Farm Bureau and while the meeting is primarily for power users among Farm Bureau members any others who may be interested in the power question are cordially invited to be present.
Through the courtesy of the State Railroad Commission Mr. L. S. Ready, engineer in charge of the gas and electric department of the commission and his assistant, Mr. Dodge, will be present and tell us something of the aims and policy of the commission in its work of regulating the utilities and explain the new rate schedules now in force under the recent order and decision handed down by the commission in the recent hearing on the petition of the Southern California Edison Co. for a permanent rate schedule.
These matters are of particular interest to all agricultural power users especially as in this decision there are two schedules designated particularly as agricultural schedules, and a proper understanding of these two schedules and which of them is particularly applicable to the individual user's case is very important as for a user to work under a wrong schedule might cost him a large amount of money, which it would not be necessary for him to pay if he were operating under the farm bureau grain exchange spreading.
What purports to be one of the biggest projects of the state and county Farm Bureaus is the organization of the Market Exchange," says John Osterman, grain grower of El Toro, who represents the Orange-co Farm Bureau at Berkeley.
Reporting to the Capistrano Farm Center recently, Mr. Osterman pointed out that in his estimation thousands of dollars will be saved the grain growers of Orange county if they buy their sacks through the Farm Bureau Exchange. Last year six cents per sack was saved farmers who purchased thru County Exchanges in the San Joaquin valley.
The directors are considering strongly the perfecting of a marketing exchange for the farmers of Orange County. Fourteen county Farm Bureaus in the state have organized their marketing departments and most of these have unified into a state exchange.
Capistrano and El Toro centers are planning to adopt the marketing project and next year will probably be ready to follow their northern neighbors in adopting the bulk handling of grain.

The Amalgamated Oil Co. is making one of the best showings of the smaller companies in the Placencia-Richfield district. The company has three wells drilling and is about ready to start a fourth. Breen No. 2 is drilling in the conglomerate. Potter No. 2 shows in the brown sandy shale. The Amalgamated's Breen No. 1 continues to be its best producer. This well is pumping 175 barrels. Potter No. 1 is good for 60 barrels.
Vern Dumas is authority for the statement that it is the intention now of the Calmox Oil Co. to supply in and start drilling at Richfield inside of the next 30 days. The lease is located a few hundred yards west of the Ridge Oil Co.'s well, now showing and 300 barrels. It is urban production concern on the land has been made.

STATE MEN COMING TO BUREAU PICNIC
May 14th—Farm Bureau Picnic.
The farmers of Orange County are again looking forward to the big annual gathering of the sons of the soil. All roads will lead from the trench to Orange County Park on that day, and most of the farmers of the county will be there, too.
A splendid program is being arranged by the director. Prominent state speakers have been engaged, and a snappy number of stunts will be staged by the 14 Farm Centers.
Dr. H. W. Walker, president of the Calif. Farm Bureau Federation, who is a member of the executive committee of the American Farm Bureau, has a big message to give the farmers of Orange county. He will explain the tariff situation as we saw it first handed in Washington. D.C.
Vice President . B. Peters will also be present to report on State Farm Bureau projects, including Public Utilities and the State marketing exchange.
A regional meeting of delegations from Imperial, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Los Angeles counties has been called for the same day. Farm Bureau projects of common interest to Southern California counties will be acted upon.
Every farmer will have something of special interest that day. It will behoore every farmer's family to spend the day at the park and bring their lunch.
Coffee will be served by the Farm Bureau.
Don't forget the date—May 14th.

Potter No. 1 is good for 50 barrels.
Vern Dumais is authority for the statement that it is the intention now of the Calmex Oil Co. to sup in and start drilling at Richfield inside of the next 20 days. The lease is located a few hundred yards west of the Ridge Oil Co.'s well, now showing some oil and gas.
Redrilling and cleaning out on the Clark Oil Co.'s Wetzell No. 1 has proceeded so nicely that a string of eight inch can now be set at 3600 feet. Located near the Standard's famous deep Kraemer gushers the outlook for the Clark well is extremely good.
Rigging up work is fast pearing completion around the Dependable Oil Trust Co.'s rig, and actual drilling is expected to commence in a few days. The drilling is to be done with cable tools, a method that is a little contrary to the fast-rotary now being used in the Richfield district.
The Fullerton Oil Co.'s Anaheim Union No. - is now drilling in sticky brown shale at 4400. At this depth the showing of oil is nothing extra, and it looks like now that it will be necessary to go to 4500 to get the good "stuff."
Drilling at Group Two the General Petroleum has reached 4500 feet without getting very much encouragement. This is the fourth deep well the G.P has sunk in the Torba Linda district without getting any returns. So far Group 4-1 is the company's best producer, the well making a little better than 100 barrels. McKracken No. 1 is drilling at 3250 in 3228, and Dawin No. 1 is setting eight-inch at 3400. The General Petroleum's next big well at Richfield will be Stern No. 5, now drilling at 3100 in the brown shale. Stern No. 4 is close to 3400 in sand. At Torba Lipda Water Co. No. 4 rigging up for the rotary underway. Hugo No. 1 continues to be the pride of the field, this well making its 500 barrels daily with wonderful regularity. New wells started by the G.P. Include Stein No. 1 drilling at 400 and Janes No. 1 rigging up.
Sand continues to menace the flowing of the Harrington-Dumax Oil Co.'s 1. On putting in the tubing the well failed to do very much better on account of the sand. At times the well will produce at the rate of $900.

THE ORANGE COUNTY PLAIN DE ALER, ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA
and 300 barrels. It seems that no regular production can be expected until the hand has been cleaned out.
The Placentia-Oil Co. during the past week toward getting out of trouble with a drill collar and bit in the hole at 2850. The hole will probably be cleared now before the end of the week, and drilling resumed. Some very encouraging showings made their appearance at 2845 and chances for getting a well are good.
Not satisfied with the small showing the Bradford No. 1 well has been making on production the Petroleum Development Co. is going ahead with the deepening of the well and new hole being made now at 4200. Bradford No. 3 at 4124 is not showing up very strong and looks as tho it will be a deep well. No. 4 Bradford is shale at 2790. Bradford Community is testing for water at 4342. Richfield No. 2 is drilling at 2400 in shale. Development work by the Petroleum Midway in the Richfield district has been centered on the Krug property, where six wells are now underway. Krug No. 1 is standing cemented at 2761. Krug No. 2 is drilling in blue shale at 1900. Krug No. 3 spudded in and shows 500 feet of hole Krug No. 4 is being digged up. Krug No. 5 is building rig and Krug No. 6 has been located. On the Yarnell property No. 8 is drilling at 1500, and No. 14 is standing cemented at 2927. On the Lausca location for No. 2 has been made. Steiner No. 1 is on the pump for a water test.
Actual work was started this week by the Richfield Southern, a new company in the Richfield district. The new concern is headed by Sam Kraemer, Jr., and George Wente, prominent in the Placentia-Pacific.
Rumor has it that four of the larger companies in the Richfield district are blinding for the property of the Richfield-Conspicuated. It is understood that all but one of the land owners, comprising the company's holdings have all agreed on a transfer and expected to do at least 300 barrels.
Drilling at 2950 the Ridge Oil Co. reported a substantial and encouraging showing of oil at 2845. The formation is also carrying considerable gas.
With 100 feet of oil sand drilled thru and the landing of the six-inch casing at 2877 the Selby-Root-Hogue Oil Co.'s Claxton-Wardman No. 1 is ready to be brot in. On account of the good showing this well has made nothing less than 300 barrels is expected.
Lumber is going on the ground for Claxton-Wardman No. 2 an dnite location for No. 3 is staked. Satisfied that Domingues No. 1 drilled to 3500 would never make a commercial producer, the Selby-Root-Hogue Oil Co. has abandoned the well.
The Standard Oil Co. trained to get a gusher at Cuff No. 1 altho the hole was sunk to a depth of 4726 feet. Cuff No. 1 went on production at 135 barrels. Loftus & O'Bryan No. 1 now in sandy shale at 4826 is not looking very good, nor is Vejar No. 1 at 4725. Kraemer I-5 is standing cemented at 4125, and the same condition exists at 1-10, 1-12 and 1-13. On the Kraemer No. 2 property No. 12 stands cemented at 3640, and will be this property's next big well.
2-13 is drilling at 2600, and No. 2-14 is drilling at 1850. K-2-15 is a new well drilling at 1100, and 16 is a new well just located.
Contractor Keek is making splendid progress drilling the Wonder Oil Co.'s No. 1 on the Kraemer home place. Drilling is now at 4100, the formation brown sandy shale with excellent oil indications. It is understood that the Wonder Oil Co.is making preparations to start a second well.
The Union Oil Co.leads with the heavy development work in the Richfield district. This company has 30 wells drilling. On the Chapman lease three wells are below 4000. No. 2 is looking good at 4055. No. 5 is in the oil sand at 4056, and No. 7 shows 4259 in the oil sand. Lumber is on the ground for IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX, IX.

Actual work was started this week by the Richfield Southern, a new company in the Richfield district. The new concern is headed by Sam Kraemer, Jr., and George Wente, prominent in the Placentia-Pacific.
Rumor has it that four of the larger companies in the Richfield district are bidding for the property of the Richfield-Consolidated. It is understood that all but one of the land owners, comprising the company's holdings have all agreed on a transfer and sale but one. It is further understood that as soon as this holder has been induced to sign the property will probably change hands. It seems that the Petroleum Midway is one of the bidders and will probably get the property should the sale be made. In the meantime Richfield-Consolidated officials are going ahead with the work of getting No. 2 on the pump. The well has been washed out to 2515 and looks as tho it will flow regularly.
Drilling on the Richfield Giant is making splendid progress. The log of the well at the opening of the week showed 3250 feet of hole.
Everything is in excellent condition for the Richfield United No. 1 to go on production. The eight-inch was set at 2200, a water job accomplished. The oil sand was struck at 3215 and now the six-inch production string is being put in and the well will be ready to flow in a few days. Situated next to the Harrington-Dumas well it is

Continue Development Around Old Whittier
Whittier Field
Development work in and around the old Whittier field continues to hold its own. Operations are being carried on by the Standard, Shell, Union and Sou. Calif. Oil Companies.
The fate of the Mascot Oil Co.'s 4200 foot well at Rideout Heights is still undecided. The water has been shut off but the well fails to make any production to amount to anything when put on the pump.
Drilling on the So. Calif.'s Sanderson No. 1 is now at 1200 feet and new hole is being made.
Drilling by the Whittley Oil Co. was started on well No. 7, and this makes the company's second well. No. 5 set 10 inch at 2214.
The Shell Co. of Calif. has Hart No. 1 now drilling close to 3900 feet. As yet this well has shown only the faintest indications of oil. Cole No. 1 is about 3500 and is in sandy brown shale.
At 2160 the Hardeen Oil Co.'s No. 1 is showing quite a lot of oil and is looking very encouraging.
