News of Oil Fields
Sun Oil Co.—Although a bit less in the well on the Snoestring lease which prevented drilling for two days, rapid progress has been made by the Orange County Drilling Co. on this job; there being over 2080 feet of hole.
Bolisa Chica Oil Co.—Well No. 1 at 19th and Wesley, was drilling at 600 feet. Lew D. Hilton, who has charge of the field operations, says that they are finding plenty of hard digging, some of it being hard conglomerate, about as hard as found anywhere.
Gas pockets have been encountered since passing the 300 lot level and mud is being kept very thick on this account.
Some 15 1-2 inch casing will soon be set.
Mr. Hilton has no desire to break the oil record in drilling this well, but is striving for a good well when it is completed.
Vista Del Mar Oil Co.—Well No. 2 on the Moore-Houston-Seely property known as the Henry R. Dabney lease, is reported as being 1400 feet.
Well No. 1, Shoemaker Community, remains cemented.
Western Union Oil Co.—The well on the Ashton Tract stands cemented at 3450.
State Consolidate Oil Co.—The pump was started at the well on the J. B. Dabney lease, east of Reservoir Hill, to clear out the water test of the last cementing job, but a test proved another failure, and it is undecided what will be the next move.
Petroleum Midway Co.—The well on the Ray Walker lease remains cemented.
There has been some progress on the rig being built on the Thornton lease, at 17th and Utica, since last report.
The well on the Vollmer-Meyer lease, Tract 82, is cemented at 3020, the water string being 10 inch. This well is 30708 feet deep, and the formation shows a trace of oil.
Preparations are being made to set 10-inch casing in the well on the community, which is being drilled with cable tools, was in brown shale Thursday morning at 3050 and not showing any oil.
Reservoir 1-A, north of Reservoir Hill, is going in hard sand at 2150 feet.
Blue Shale Oil Mining Assn.—the well on lots 4 to 9, block 1501, Vista Del Mar tract, was cemented by Wigle and McBride, using the new automatic telescoping packer invented by Mr. Wigle.
The string of 1300 feet of ten in, casting reported stuck in this well last week was not recovered. The tools were run in thru this casing and the hole cleared out and 2438 feet of 8 1-4 inch set and cemented.
Republic Petroleum Corp.—The well on the Kirk lease, southwest of the Holly sugar factory, is reported as being 3680 feet deep and showing oil at that depth, although enough oil sands have been passed to insure a good producer.
The report that this well was to be brought in at 3614 feet proved to be incorrect, as after a consultation among the officials of the company, it was decided to drill deeper, notwithstanding the fact that there are oil sands between 3395 and 3490 feet, which warrant the dope of a good well.
Bolisa Chica Petroleum Corp.—There has been some progress at the rig west of Main street, near Clay, since last report. This well will be drilled by the Orange County Drilling Co.
Talbert Oil Co.—There has been but slight progress at the rig on the west side of Main street, south of 17th, since last week's report.
Texas Holding Co.—The well on the Obarr-Houston-Seely property, northeast of the reservoir, is drilling in hard sand at 2924 feet.
Wigle and McBride are doing the drilling. This firm is spudding in a well on the Irvine subdivision, on the Newport mesa, today, for the Worshner, Gray Oil Co.
Westminster Oil Co—a lot of hard digging has been encountered at the well on J. H. Edwards lease, south of Westminster, and the progress has been rather slow, as only

The well on the Vollmer-Meyer lease, Tract 82, is cemented at 3020, the water string being 10 inch. This well is 30708 feet deep, and the formation shows a trace of oil.
Preparations are being made to set 10 inch casing in the well on the Warner lot, Columbia lease No. 1, west of Main on Clay or Summit, at 2100.
Guaranty Oil Co.—There is nothing new to report about the rig on the G. D. McWay community, at Main street, north of Garfield.
Argonaut Oil Co.—The well on the Turley lease, north of Reservoir Hill, remains cemented. This well will be drilled in with cable tools.
Venture Oil Co.—There is nothing new to report this week on the well on the Russell lease, Tract No. 97, or the uncompleted rig on Clark lease, as there is no evidence whatever over of a revival of activity.
Mid-Central Oil Co.—Fishing for lost tools is still going on at the well on the McFarland lease, Balso Chica mean.
Thxcal Oil and Refining Co.—The work of moving the rig on the Burks lease, north of Reservoir Hill, is practically completed, and the new well will probably be spudded in on next Wednesday.
Well No. 2 on the Grant lease, a short distance southeast of No. 1 was 2640 feet Thursday morning, and will soon be ready for the water test.
Huntington Central Oil Co.—Six-inch casing is being placed in well No. 1 at Wesley and Main streets, with one joint of screen casing at the lower end.
There is only seven feet of open hole running into the oil sands, but those in charge thought it would pay to give it a tryout at this depth, 2265 feet, and this event may occur today or tomorrow. This will undoubtedly be a big producer, as it is but a short distance from the Hurst well, but it will no doubt have to be drilled deeper.
Well No. 2 on the John Heaston lease, is cemented at 3000 feet.
Amalgamated Oil Co.—The well know as Reservoir 2-A, which came in Sunday, April 3, is now flowing about 200 barrels per day, a considerable slump from last week, but still leaving it a good well.
The derrick is being enclosed and when this work is completed the well will be swabbed, which it is believed will materially increase the production.
The well on the Geo. F. Fowler
Texas Holding Co.—The well on the Obarr-Huston-Seely property, northeast of the reservoir, is drilling in hard sand at 2924 feet.
Wigle and McBride are doing the drilling. This firm is spudding in a well on the Irvine subdivision, on the Newport mesa, today, for the Worsherner, Gray Oil Co.
Westminster Oil Co—a lot of hard digging has been encountered at the well on the J. H. Edwards lease, south of Westminster, and the progress has been rather slow, as only a few feet could be made with a bit.
There was a break in the formation when a strata of brown shale was struck. Preparations at that time were bing made to set 1065 ft. of 15 1-2 inch casing, this being the depth of the well.
Standard Oil Co.—The Surf well has been cemented again. Bolsa No. 2 was cemented Tuesday at 2380 feet. The cement was drilled out of A-3, but the job was found to be another wet one, and it will therefore be some time before this well will be in the producing column. Rigging up at A-10 is almost complete and the hole will soon be spudded in. Rigging up is also under way at B-4, an off-set to the State Consolidated well. C-1, an offset to Bolsa No. 2 is cemented. A-8 is being drilled and is looking promising at about 2350. A-9, a short distance southwest of Reservoir Hill was drilling at 1750 Thursday morning. The fishing job is still in progress at A-5. The tools that were lost in the Torrance well, on the Bolsa Chic mega, have been recovered, and the hole is being prepared to set a string of 10-inch casing.
B-3, northwest of the high school, is drilling at about 1750 feet.
The fittings are being installed at A17, an offset well to Bolsa No. 1, on the Huntington Beach Co. property, and if there is no water trouble that well should be in the producing column by next report. About 400 feet of sewcreasing was set, and the depth is 2775 feet. The indications are that this well will not be much of a producer as compared with Bolsa No. 1, only about 300 feet away.
Preparations are being made to drill out the cement in Bolsa No. 3, and the plug has already been drilled out of Jonca community, but no test has been made for water.
B-2 way down in the barley field toward the ocean from the other rigs in the field is drilling in sticky shale at about 2650 feet, and not showing any oil.

CONVICT'S APPEAL
DENIEL BY COURT
Word has been received at Santa Ana that Percy R. Stock, convicted of forgery in the Orangeco superior court Sept. 13, 1920, has been denied a new trial by Department No. 2 of the District Court of Appeal.
The appeal court held that while the bailiff in charge of the jury stepped out of sight of the body for a few minutes when taking the prisoner to the county jail to await the verdict, this was not sufficient ground to warrant a new trial, altho this is a technical violation of the law.
Stock now is serving an indeterminate term of from one to 14 years in the state prison at San Quentin, the sentence being passed upon him by Superior Judge R. Y. Williams.
Stock was employed by an advertising agency in this city and claimed to be a decorative artist by trade.
He was convicted of passing a forged check on the Murray Baking Co. of Los Angeles. The name of J. N. Itahton of Anaheim was signed to the check, which was drawn on the Farmers' and Merchants' bank of Los Angeles.
