CHEVROLET OFFER ATTRACTS BUYERS "The announcement by the Chevrolet Motor Co. that it will make a cash refund to all purchasers of Model 'Four-Ninety' automobiles is proving very popular with those who are in the market for cars," says Paul Taggart, of the Taggart Motor Co., local Chevrolet dealers. "The commanding position of the company in the auto world naturally inspires confidence in the plan and more than usual interest in the buying public. The logic and fairness of the announcement makes a peculiar appeal to the business commonsense of the discriminating buyer. "In the light of the Chevrolet sales record, it is regarded as certain that 50,000 Chevrolet 'Four-Ninety' cars will be sold by Aug. 1, in which event the refunds of $70.00 on open cars and light delivery wagons, and $100 on closed cars will reach the total of about $4,000,000." "The large production capacity and up to date equipment of Chevrolet 'Four-Ninety' factories are well known, and the ability of the energetic manufacturing organization to utilize the best quantity production methods is recognized as responsible for the low price at which Chevrolet 'Four-Ninety' cars can be sold. "Under its new plan, the purchaser is assured of this particular model at the lowest possible price, and he participates in the effort of the company to stimulate production and encourage prosperity. He directly benefits by the refund to himself of actual cash. "That the announcement proved of great interest to purchasers all over the country is evidenced by the heavy increases sales reported by Chevrolet dealers and retail stores during the past week." SMASHES RECORD AS TIRE MANUFACTURER A western tire finisher has smashed another record. Fay A. Bates, a workman in the Los Angeles plant of the Goodyear Fiat-Benz is the new uses truck chain upon motor biKE Dare-devils on snorting motorcycles will flirt with death on the famous San Juan Capistrano hill climb course next Sunday, but— At least one of them intends to do the flirting with a partial guarantee that if he does not drive his Excelsior up the incline it will not be the fault of his machine. In order to make assurance doubly sure, Floyd Clymer has decided to try to do away with possibility of chains breaking, as has happened to film at San Juan in the past three years. He has equipped an Excelsior that he will ride in the free-for-all, with a drive chain from a one-ton truck. The chain runs over two specially designed sprockets geared at a ratio of 6 to 1 "in high" and a ration of 13 to 1 "in low." Demons of the popping motorcycles have been tuning up their mounts, most of them are now resting, or on their way in readiness for the hard grind at Capistrano next Sunday. Numbers are expected to give the bill "once over" during the week. The entry list is large, giving assurance of tariffs aplenty. The climb is under the auspices of the Orange-co Motorcycle club and will be the sixth annual event. Special interest is aroused in the free-for-all, in which traction of all kinds and varieties is allowable. Tractor grips, skid chains, ropes and other special contrivances will be used to gain traction in this event. Clymer's specially equipped machine is only one of a number that will be especially fitted for the occasion. Buckling bronzes will offer no more tarillas than these specially equipped machines on the grade Sunday. The riders will stick to their mounts as long as possible and spills will be of frequent occurrence. The element of danger entering into this feature of the vent holds also a suspense for the onlookers as well as a lure for the dare-devils. Movi SMASHES RECORD AS TIRE MANUFACTURER A western tire finisher has smashed another record. Fay A. Bates, a workman in the Los Angeles plant of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., is the new champion. He has just hung up a record of 112 double molded clincher tires finished in an eight hour day—two tires better than any known previous record. A tire man who finishes 60 to 65 tires a day is good enough to hold down a job in any tire plant in the country. So when you compare the new mark of 112 with an ordinary day's work you begin to realize what an artist Bates is in his line. None but tire builders and finishers can really appreciate the precision of hand and eye required in going at a 112-tires-per-shift pace. Every move counts. It means finishing a tire every four minutes that will satisfy the exacting tests of the factory inspectors. Like all good workmen, Bates is of that type of hard working individuals found constantly delivering the goods and saying little. One is its freedom from repairs. It runs on and on. Give it gas, oil, grease and water and it will deliver an amazing amount of mileage. The second is the low price you pay per mile. Its thrifty engine makes gas go a long way. Its 2000 pounds of weight assures long tire wear. TURTON & UNIVERSAL 142 S. Los Angeles St. THE ORANGE COUNTY PLAIN DEALER, ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA NASH BUSINESS 40 PER CENT GREATER The total volume of sales in dollars and cents of the Nash Motors Co. for the fiscal year ending Nov. 30 shows a 40 per cent increase over the previous year and, notwithstanding the fact that the company has extended more than $4,000,000 in expanding its properties at Kenosha and Milwaukee, it has a cash balance on hand of more than $10,000,000. This company has no funded debt nor money borrowed, says Mr. May, of the May Motor Co., Orange county distributors for the Nash. These are outstanding facts in the financial statement of the Nash Motors Co., to be issued the latter part of this month. Citing the steady and sound progress this company has made since the beginning, Mr. May points out that was organized in July, 1916, with 5,000,000 in preferred stock and 50,000 shares of common stock having no par value. The company issued its first financial statement Nov. 30, 1917, and in the 15-1-2 months which it covered showed $16,750,000 in sales with a turn-over of its inventory four times. The second statement, which covered the 12 months from Nov. 30, 1917, to Nov. 30, 1918, showed sales totals of more than $41,000,000, a cash balance on hand of approximately $7,300,000 and an eight-time turnover of its inventory. Cash on hand and government securities at the end of the fiscal year terminating Nov. 30, 1919, was $12.500,000. Total sales were in excess of $41,750,000.
