BAKERSFIELD MAN USES TIRE 7 YEARS
Whose tire has run the longest?
This is what A. L. Connors, of Bakersfield, Calif., asks while submitting his own tire experience for championship honors. After reading in the paper that a Los Angeles motorists had failed to wear out a pair of Goodyear tires in seven years' service on three different cars, Connors offers a tire record just two years better.
Back in the days of 1912 when a tire was not expected to run much more than 2000 miles and some of the larger cars were built on the general lines of locomotives, Connors bought a heavy six-cylinder Peerless, equipped with 36x5 Goodyear tires—now an obsolete size.
And after nine years of exacting service, the left rear tire is still doing its daily turn with a nonchalant disregard for the ordinary span of life that tires are supposed to observe.
During nine years of variegated existence the old patriarch has traveled along side of ten partners of other makes for their allotted 2000 or 3000 miles, and at their failure with a "Well, I must be getting on," has resumed the task each time with a new companion, of grinding out miles for its owner.
Just how many rails the old-prewar casing has traveled is not discernable for speedometers in those days were among the "extras" along with shock absorbers, spare tires, etc.
But one thing is certain—the tire is just rounding out its ninth year of service, with a good expectancy of completing a full decade of utility before passing on to the tire happy hunting grounds.
Many a time Connors has started out on a trip over rough country, fearing it might be the last one for the old Goodyear, but it has always come back, surmounting all obstacles to date.
The owner says, "I have used the car and casing ever since it came into my possession and intend to keep on using it. The tire is in good con-

PEUGEOT CO. FILES
U.S. INCORPORATION
Articles of incorporation providing for the establishment of the Peugeot Co. of America, Inc., with a capitalization of $30,000,000, have been filed in this country.
The French company plans to build a 76 h.p. valveless engine-type car, for which its makers claim 15 miles to the gallon of gasoline. The plant will be located somewhere in New England. It is believed that the company will not make any of the smaller models extensively used in France. The American made car will probably sell for $8,000.
The name Peugeot is known in America, having competed many times on the speedways of this country.
All roads lead to Santa Ana next week, to the second annual Orange County Auto Show, staged by the Orange County Auto Trades Association. The roads from every direction will end at two large tents, with 30,000 feet of exhibit space, where will grouped the latest and best in motor-drom—displays that reflect the progress of automotive design and construction during the year just passed.
Five thousand dollars worth of decorations, hundreds of "spiffy" motorcars—rows of sturdy trucks—banks of tusky tractors—accessories necessary to the convenience and comfort of motorists—here in brief is the history of the auto show, an event which demonstrates the desirability, the absolute necessity of owning an auto in Southern California and the economical uses to which trucks and tractors may be put.
Entertainment afternoon and evening by the Vassar Girls Orchestra and the Raymond Quartet, under the direction of Patrick and Clark, and concerts every evening by the Orange County Auto Trades 30-piece band, will add to the pleasure of show visitors. The grand opening of the Auto Show will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock and the "big top" will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. up to and including Saturday, April 16th.

AUTO PAWNSHOP POPULAR
New York has a motor car pawn shop!
It's in Columbus circle. In the heart of "Gasoline Row." Needy automobile owners take their cars to this place and get money and a pawn ticket. If they fail to return the loan with interest, the car is sold.
More than 100 cars are "in soak" here. Some of which can already be obtained at "hock-shop" prices.

Business is due for the better, government believes, judging by issued by the federy and the fact that money has been retired recently than at U.S. history.
Out of about $250, reserve notes, or more than for the last year; decrease of loans since the middle of December by $160,000,000; an orderly deflation of prices; widespread liquidation, all point to a healthier financial condition than the nation has enjoyed for some time.
It is stated that as soon as the January inventories have been taken, that business a sa whole will experience a change which will be evidenced by the buying of spring goods; financing of spring business and an increase of credits.
