DISMISSES DEADLY WEAPON CHARGES
A charge of drawing a deadly weapon in a rude and threatening manner brought against Bill Cum.
Complete Truck Tire Service
Cummings admitted drawing a gun on Williams, but said that he did it in self-defense. He declared that the gun was not loaded and that he only intended to hit Williams with the butt of the revolver if he attempted to attack him. According to Cummings' story, Williams came to his place looking for trouble. He said Williams threatened to "get him" and made a threatening gesture by drawing his right hand across his throat.
As Cummings drew the weapon his brother, Harry Cummings, who rushed to the scene when he saw the trouble brewing, knocked the weapon from his hand. This is according to the testimony of both of the Cummings brothers. Williams, they say, fled immediately after the gun was drawn.
Mrs. Williams admitted on the stand that she was the probable cause of the trouble. She said that she had gone to the home of Harry Cummings and pleaded with him not to make a proposed trip to San Diego and leave his wife, her daughter. This, she said, angered Cummings.
Cummings testified that he had made arrangements to leave his wife in the care of a woman friend of the family and that he was compelled to go to San Diego on a two-day business trip. Mrs. Williams objected to this, he said.
Overruling objections of Deputy District Attorney Mozley, Justice of the Peace Cox insisted on getting at the bottom of the trouble. It made no difference to the preliminary hearing.
Judge Cox scored Williams and his wife, Mrs. Anna Williams, and held them directly responsible for the trouble with Cummings. Judge Cox declared it was apparently a case of not only "too much mother-in-law, but too much father-in-law."
According to the story told by Williams, he was seated in an automobile near the corner of Third and Broadway January 29, when Bill Cummings approached him with a revolver and "threatened to blow his brains out if he got out of the car." Williams said that he did get out and ran for an officer.

TAXES IN ORANGE-CO AMONG THE LOWEST
That only three counties in the state in 1920 had lower tax rates inside and outside of cities than Orange county, with one additional having a lower rate outside, and that only six counties in the state had assessed valuations in excess of that of Orange county is disclosed by a table showing assessed valuations of property in all the counties in the state.
The tabulation brings Orange county forcibly to the attention of those who know or take an interest in valuations and rates. The county in point of area is smaller than any of the counties which have greater valuations.
Orange county's assessed valuation, operative and non-operative property included, is given at $114,089,155, and the tax rate inside cities was $1.50 and outside $1.90. The counties having the lower rates both inside and outside are Glenn, with $1.20 and $1.80. Imperial with $1.28 and $1.63, and Los Angeles with $1.325 and $1.835'. Alpine is the only county, aside from those mentioned, with an outside rate lower than that of this county, the rate there being $1.80. No rate is given for inside property.
The counties topping Orange county in point of assessed valuations are Alameda, $302,649,037; Fresno, $169,473,324; Kern, $123,796,489; Los Angeles, $1,275,735,264; Sacramento, $130,162,551, and San Francisco, $819,820,078.
An interesting comparative feature is shown as between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Los Angeles with a valuation greatly in excess of that of San Francisco has indebtedness amounting to $3,462,028 while San Francisco bond obligations amount to $51,161,500.
The grand total of assessed valuation on all properties in the state is $4,555,445,447.

COUNTY COURT HOUSE, ARD-MORE, Okla., March 11.—I want to see her sent to the electric chair,
With three carloads of Orange-co lemons on their way by steamer today to New York and Philadelphia markets and another carload scheduled to leave for Boston today, new history is being written in the citrus industry of this county.
The new history, it is believed by some will also have an important bearing on the development in Orange-co of one of the best small commercial harbors on the Pacific coast.
The shipments of county fruit leaving this week are the first ever to go out of the county for shipment to the Atlantic coast by water. Twenty-five of the thirty carloads are consigned to New York and five to Philadelphia. One carload each was packed for the cargo by the Golden West, Tustin Lemon and San Joaquin associations. The shipments were on the steamer Liberator.
One carload of Orange county lemons will go forward to Boston today on the steamer Arizona. That load will represent the Gold brand of the Villa Park Lemon association. The fruit was transported to Wilmington yesterday by truck and trailer. Four hundred and six packaged boxes were loaded on one truck and two trailers.
E. B. Collier, manager of the association, and J. F. Allen, president, watched the progress of the loading and were at Wilmington when the truck arrived there to deposit its freight for loading into the hold of the steamer.
Citrus growers of Orange county are keenly interested in the two shipments of county lemons and they will watch with eagerness the reports as to the condition of the fruit upon its arrival on the market and the prices it commands.
It is said that Orange-co lemons have superior keeping qualities and are well adapted to shipment. It is expected they will reach their destination in first class condition.
"The shipmen now being made from Orange county are but the forerunner of many larger consignments that will be sent to Atlantic coast points by water," said Collier today. "In my opinion water shipment will supplant rail shipment to produce better-in-law grove, of the evil preliminary Williams and Adams and no matter his fidelity with him Grove, and unable for that he declared and that William Walker if he According Williams came trouble. GIRL'S CONVICTION
COUNTY COURT HOUSE, ARDMORE, Okla., March 11.—I want to see her sent to the electric chair. Every married woman, every mother should pray for her punishment. She is a terrible woman. No home is safe from her kind. No punishment is bad enough for her.
The woman who uttered these words today is the widow in the triangular drama which ended the life of Jake L. Hamon, Oklahoma mililionaire oil man and Republican national committeeman.
"The shipmen now being made from Orange county are but the forerunner of many larger consignments that will be sent to Atlantic coast points by water," said Collier today. "In my opinion water shipment will supplant rail shipment to a very large extent, and it is possible that strings of freight cars now used in hauling citrus fruits to easern markets will in time have to be diverted to other uses.
"It is very possible that the water rates will induce shipping to such an extent that railroads will be forced to lower rates in citrus fruits.
"Even in that event, however, I do not believe that shipping by boats will be given up, since it has been so thoroughly proven that this method of transportation is satisfactory."
Our trade will be extended to new-markets overseas, with the fruit loaded direct from the packing house to ships and unloaded at destination in foreign lands. This will save expense in handling and will eliminate the damage that fruit is liable to in handling processes."
