FOR PROGRESS
A little girl, Miriam itubin, aged 8,
of Waukegan, Ill., whose continuous
talking without sleep for 212 hours
battled all diagnoses of a group of
eminent physicians who attended her,
secured her first relief by a simple
treatment in chiropractic. Pathologically
the case was unique. Newspapers
from coast to coast printed columns about it. Letters and telegrams
from all parts of the country were reciled by the parents of the child
suggesting modes of treatment and
offering services. It seemed to be a
case which required more than medicatical treatment, and the time was critical. The physicians in charge, with
good judgment and fine sportsmanship agreed that the chiropractor
should have his chance. He won.
The theory of chiropractic is extremeely simple. A nerve impinged between two vertebrae, the pressure
lessening or destroying the functioning of the nerve and the part it controls; the adjustment of the vertebrae
to relieve the pressure and the return of the nerve's normal condition.
Chiropractic has many notable
successes to its credit, but the case of
little Miriam Rubin serves to emphasize its value—not to supersede medicatical treatment, however, epithely, we
believe, but as a means to perform
a distinct service to humanity in its
own peculiar sphere.
And, strange to say, there are some
states which yet hold back the acknowledgement of the standing which
chiropractic has attained, and refuse
the chiropractors having their own
state board for the examination of
practitioners and the regulation of
chiropractic.
In the interest of human progress
we believe it to be the duty as well as
the privilege of newspapers generally
to give such aid to chiropractic in
the recognition by the state of its usefulness and value as will establish it
as the acknowledged benefit to mankind and an addition to pathological instrumentality that its accomplishments and the standing of its practitioners entitle it to.

and so arranged that one side can be let down into a comfortable bed, and the front end right back of the driver's seat opened and turned into a small kitchenette with an oil stove and everything complete. Further down is a dressing table with full make-up equipment and wash basin. Standard Leases 200 Acres of Bastanchury
The Standard Oil Co. has leased 200 acres of the Bastanchury ranch at Fullerion. Much of the property adjoins the Standard's famous Murphy-Coyote property and with this in view the property is considered very valuable.
About 15 years ago the Union Oil Co. began development work on the Bastanchury Ranch and drilled a number of wells, among them several test wells, but failed to develop much production. One well, Bastanchury No. 5, produced for a few hours at the rate of 1000 a day and looked like a big well when it sanded up and quilt. The well could not be made to flow again and was abandoned. It seems that the Union has released its rights for further development work and retains only the producing year is 189, compared with 139 the same date last year.
