ORANGE MOTORIZES
The street and water departments headquarters of Orange are to be motorized.
That is to say, the chief of staff in each department is hereafter to go about his affairs luxuriously unconceded in a jitney.
The trustees have decided to advertise for automobiles for the use of the street and water departments.
No names are mentioned in the advertisements, but the chances are that when the president of the Packard company reads the specifications he will sigh and shake his head.
The city will ask proposals on an automobile of such a certain size, weight and lung capacity that the dealer in a certain line will jack his sample case and come forward with confidence.

BLACKEYE GROWERS OF ORANGE COUNTY POOL 42,000 BAGS
The blackeye bean growers of Orange County have alleged to pool their beans. Present indications are that they will hang on to their hold-over crop, about 42,000 bags, until mid-summer.
A decision to enter into a pool and perfect an organization to handle the pool was reached at a conference Friday by 15 growers of the south end of the county. A. J. Crookshank, president of the First National Bank, Santa Ana, presided, and W. C. Jerome, county auditor, was secretary.
The situation was talked over in detail. Indications are that the coming crop will be light. Most of the growers who expressed themselves said that since they have had to hold their beans as long as they have they can hold them a few months longer, if there is any prospect for better prices by so doing. While that was the sentiment expressed, the handling of the pool is to be entirely in the hands of a committee of three, John Osterman, W. J. Chenevy and W. C. Jerome, which committee is to have full authority to dispose of the beans whenever it sees fit and at whatever prices its accepts.
The blackeyes held by the Orange county men are the best there are in the state. Injury from weavil has been slight, and the beans can be held as well as any in the state.

PEACE MISSION ASKS SUPPORT OF FIFTH LOAN
Urges American People to Finish the Job by Taking the Victory Loan
Four members of the American peace mission in France, Secretary of State Robert Lansing, Col. E. M. House, General Tasker N. Bliss and Henry White, have sent this message to the American people urging support of the Victory Loan:
"TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE:
"We have had the opportunity here in France to see and realize the magnitude of the accomplishment of our country in this war and the magnificent spirit with which this great task has been carried through to a triumphant issue.
What has been done and what remains to be done before normal conditions are restored demand your continued and united support with the same spirit of self sacrifice and of determination as that which was manifested by the nation while the German armies faced our men at the Marne, and in the Champagne, at St. Michel and in the Argonne. We must not relax our efforts until every soldier of the republic is landed on the soil of America.
To finish this mighty task imposes upon the government of the United States a great financial burden. The Victory Liberty Loan must thrive. If it should fail it would indicate that the Nation is willing to leave its task uncompleted.
To secure the ideals for which Americans fought and died this great demand on national patriotism and united effort should meet a generous and universal response. Let us do our duty to the end."

NAVY BANDS WILL SPUR PATRIOTISM IN VICTORY DRIVE
Mare Island Commandant Offers Marines and Jackies to Aid Fifth Loan
Captain Edward L. Beach, commandant of Mare Island Navy Yard, Mare Island, Cal., who was in command of the United States dreadnaught New York in the North Sea at the time the German navy was turned over under the terms of the armistice, has offered three of the crack service bands stationed at Mare Island for use during the Victory drive.
One of the bands will travel on the trophy train which will tour all of the seven states in the Twelfth District and the other two bands will be used in cities within a day's journey of Mare Island. One of these bands is the famous sixty-place Marine Band and the other is the forty-piece Jackie Band.
Paymaster Ralph Phelps, U. S. N., has been placed in charge of the itinerary to be mapped out for the two bands which will not travel on the train and any local committee desiring to make use of either of these two bands during the drive should communicate with him.

professionals. Two men were seen on the front porch of the home Friday afternoon during the absence of Mr. and Mrs. Engel and it is supposed they ransacked the house, entering the back door with a pass key, but how they hauled the stuff away is not known, as no automobile was seen.
Deputy Sheriff Fowler investigated the case and L. Miller, fingerprint expert, was also called. He could find no prints, however, showing the men must have worn gloves, denoting the professional burglar.
This is only one of several such thefts reported recently in Orange county. The men find out by knocking that no one is at home, and then proceed to break in.
OSCAR HEYING BACK
Oscar Heyling, who was in France 16 months with the pharmaceutical end of the hospital service, spent the week-end in Anaheim. He has been at Camp Kearny since the last of March and is anxious to be discharged within ten days. He came over from France, ill, in March. He says he enjoyed his army experience but will be delighted to return to civil life.

Day,
USKY Tractor Agency,
Anaheim, California.
Based my 10-20 J Model Sandusky Tractor from your six months ago and would not have believed it possible to replace my horses and accomplish more work in half the time with a tractor. Have never needed rehauling and the Little Fellow with the big Pull is doffully as well as the first month, and has demonstratorks 100% efficient in sandy soil with a good 8-horse daily recommend it for orchard work.
Yours respectfully,
B. H. CHRISTLIEB.
