C. Sexton, chairman, at which time plans for the campaign were definitely laid. The chairman spoke very optimistically regarding the coming loan, and expressed it as his opinion that there would be little difficulty in placing the quota assigned to Brea. "I am thoroughly convinced," said Mr. Sexton, "that everyone realizes their duties and responsibilities in this coming loan. Brea has a reputation for 'going over the top.' at all times and I am sure this will be no exception. The honor of our little city is at stake and I do not believe for one moment the many loyal citizens of this community are going to sacrifice that honor by refusing to support this loan to the limit. Friends of Mrs. M. E. Dutton will be glad to know she is recovering from a very serious operation. Mesdames Wheeler, Sutphen, Jarvis, Reeves, Ediburn and Pickering attended the Parent-Teachers' association organization at Milies-avenue school, Los Angeles, Tuesday. T. L. Baxter left Saturday evening for Long Beach to spend a few days. He expects to return her the latter part of the week before starting back East. The four-year-old child of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Stewart is reported improving rapidly as a result of an operation. Dr. George R. Pray and family who have been visiting several weeks in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Sexton, returned Wednesday to their home in Jackson, Michigan. W. A. While living, Mrs. F. J. Billstrom was severely stung, blood poisoning setting in. Wm. Shields, Brea canyon, while grinding a tool, received a piece of flying red hot steel in an eye, burning the cornea badly. Chas F. Horton, manager of the California National Supply Co., this week purchased the Ida C. Fischel home on South Madrone avenue, the transfer being made through Miss M. McGee. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Sexton, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Sayles, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Mitchell attended the annual meeting and banquet of the Orange County Bankers Association in the Elks’ hall, Santa Ana, Tuesday evening. B. F. Reed has purchased a beautiful lot in Brea at the corner of Pomona and Cedar-sts. He is this week erecting thereon a nice garage into which he will temporarily move his family, and expects, in the near future, to put up a nice residence building. C. P. Williams returned Wednesday from a sight-seeing trip to San Diego. G. W. Ford made the trip up Mt. Lowe Sunday. Alex Bruce was a visitor in Los Angeles the first of the week. Mrs. R. L. Johnson accompanied her husband (who is preaching at the Christian church) last Sunday and spent the day getting acquainted with Brea people. Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Tallman, of Collinga, former residents of Brea, have moved to Whittier. Mr. Tallman is in the employ of the Standard Oil Co. There were about 25 families of oil workers to leave the Taft fields last week for Southern California fields, many of them coming to this vicinity. Word has been received that Matt Forquer landed in Boston April 14th from overseas. He was with the 101st Engineers and left here about two years ago.
