Here the Union has secured a substantial acreage and will begin active drilling in less than sixty days. Union Speeds Work on Chapman The Union Oil Company is busy working on two new wells on the Chapman property. Nos. 2 and 3 have been located.. Rig lumber for both is being placed on the ground and rig building has started. Amalgamated Drilling Two Wells The Amalgamated on the Ibbittson has succeeded in shutting off all surface water at 2250 feet and has resumed drilling. The depth of the well is now 2278 feet, the formation is sandy shale, with no oil showing as yet. On the Yorba property No. 1 is drilling at 325 feet in brown shale. Fullerton Oil Co. Good Showing One of the fastest and most successful drilling jobs of the new oil field is the Fullerton Oil Company's No. 1 in the Travis tract. The well is now making hole at 2000 feet, the sandy shale formation at this point is showing oil in very pleasing quantity. General Petroleum About to Start The General Petroleum has completed the work of rigging up and is now putting the finishing touches on a boiler plant for the drilling of a test well on the Wilson tract. Drilling will be under way now in a short time. River Bank Oil Co. Causes Stir The River Bank Oil Company starfled its friends and backers by striking a considerable amount of gas at a depth of 800 feet in the sand wash well near Placentia. The digging is of the hardest kind. The conglomerate is so compact and resisting that as many as six fish tails are used in a single tour. Petroleum Development Co. Gets Busy Acting under contract the Petroleum Development Company is rushing preparations for the immediate commencement of two wells on the Bradford properties. Lumber is being put on the ground for two wells, and rig building is to start at once. Standard Breaks All Records In less than ten days the Standard Oil Company closed negotiations for the leasing of 200 acres of property from the Kramer ranch, hauled in the lumber, made the grade, set up a boiler plant, built a rig, rigged up, commenced drilling and made 200 feet of hole. This is the record made on the starting of the Kramer 2-1 well. The property is in charge of Ralph Winger and certainly shows a speed unequalled by any company in any field for a fast getaway. So quick were the preparations made that when drilling commenced the Southern Counties Gas Co. could not keep up with the demands for a line to furnish gas for firing the boilers. The Standard Oil Company did not wait on the gas corporation a minute. Wood was hauled to the well in big trucks, the boilers fired up and the drilling started.
