MOTHERS' CONGRESS ALL DAY APRIL 12 AT GARDEN GROVE GARDEN GROVE, April 7.—Special—The Orange County Congress of Mothers and Parent Teachers Association will hold an all day session at the school auditorium Saturday, April 13th, commencing at ten o'clock a.m. All members of the association are urgently requested to attend. Miss Agnes Christensen, Miss Cole and Miss Ethel Archer were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George R. Royburn Tuesday evening. Baker & Stillens, our live-wire real estate men, believe in signs. They have a new one which was recently placed on their office on Ocean ave. Mr. and Mrs. Monte Preston, merly of Garden Grove, left Anahale last Thursday for Downey where Prston will assist in a drug store. G. W. Fickle of Fullerton was lying over conditions in this local first of the week with a view investing in real estate near Garden Grove. Mrs. W. A. Wheeler, who has been staying in Long Beach for the past week on account of the illness of her father, returned home Saturday evening. Miss Helen Hodstrom entertained Misses Alma Phillips, Hope Clock and Hilla Wedberg, members of the Riverside Glee club at her home Friday and Saturday. The W. C. T. U. County Convention will be held at Orange Tuesday April 8th, at the Christian church beginning at 9:30 for an all day session. Sergeant F. B. Winters, who was among the first from Garden Grove to respond to our country's call to men, and who for the past seven months has been in France, is expected home soon. "Win my Chum" week was observed by the Epworth League of the Methodist church last week. Meetings which have proved both pleasant and profitable were held even evening. Baker & Stillens have sold the C. Bowman 15-acre orange grove southeast of Garden Grove to M.Kerrmer of Brea, who has gone on the place and will develop and prove this splendid piece of property. Reed J. M. Craig, of Los Angeles, who has been holding special meetings at the church, was the speaker. Mrs. F. B. Winters visited friends here Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Harper received a telegram Tuesday morning stating that their son Wilbur, who had been with the 364th Infantry Supply company in France, had arrived safely in New York. He expects to return home within the next two weeks. The P.-T. A. met Tuesday afternoon. The opening number was a character song by the pupils of the first grade. A piano solo by Mrs Frances Dungan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Dungan. A reading "History Lesson," by Claud Collin which is typical of the boy and his relation to the study of history, giving the event which he knew had opened in 1492, beginning with Columbus and ending with Barbary Fritchie. One feature of the business session was planning for the convention of the County Federation P.-T. A and Mothers Congress to be held in the school auditorium Saturday April 12th, the Garden Grove P.-T. A. as hostess. Delegates elected were: Mmes, Harper, Bosey, P., Newsome, King and Miss Crutchfield Mrs. Goodell, president County Federation was then introduced and gave a very helpful talk on the work, after which she conducted a round table and many questions were discussed. Han LADY MACABEES OF BREA WILL GIVE DANCE FRIDAY EVEN BREA, April 7—Special—The Lady Macabee will give a dance Friday night, April 11, at Sewell hall. The admission will be $1.00 per couple, plus 10 cents war tax. Extra ladies and children over 12 years of age will pay 10 cents war tax. Falker's jazz band will furnish the music. The P.-T. A. have made arrangements for a feature film every second Friday evening, beginning May 9. The first number will be the famous "Jack and the Bean Stalk," which had such a fine run in Los Angeles. J. W. Titus was here last week from Taft on business interests, returning home Thursday. With him were his brother, Ross, who has just returned from France. He was a member of the Rainbe wdivision and was wounded in the battle of the Argonne forest. A special meeting of the Lady Macabees was held last Monday afternoon at which time Mosdames Mabel Kuenzli and Hazel Deitzel were elected delegate and alternate to the state convention at Oakland, April 21-23. Arrangements were made for the dance to be held April 11. Th local Lady Macabee review will go in a body to Los Angeles on April 17, it being the occasion of the visit of Miss Bina M. West, the founder of the order and at present supreme commander. Miss West is to address the visitors who will be entertained by the Los Angeles ladies. Bank, Calif., returned here last week and will make this their future home. Several ladies of the Congregational church went to Whittler Thursday afternoon the guests on the Woman's Missionary Union of the Plymouth Congregational church of that city. This was in the way of a return visit to the ladies of the Whittler church who were in Brea about a month ago. A most delightful time was enjoyed, their being a fine program and tasteful refreshments. E. E. MacPherson, manager of the R. H. Herron Co. store in Brea, was on the sick list for several days, but is again attending to business. Invitations are being sent out for a social event to be held at the home of Miss Esther Casner next Wednesday night and to be given by the Entrée Nous club. Miss Esther Casner was one of our local girls who enjoyed the pleasure of being on the honor roll of the Fullerton Union High school last month. The regular meeting of the Entree Nous club was held Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Jesse Mitchell. A good time plus refreshments was the report. Mr. and Mrs. Julius Deitzel went into Los Angeles Tuesday evening to attend a birthday anniversary dinner of Mrs. Deitzel's sister, Mrs. Jack Jeffries. James Dooley, lately connected with the Copa de Ora Company, left Monday for Maricopa where he has accepted a position with the Interstate Oil Company. Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Hambleton are happy over the news that their son, Walter, is expected home about the first of May. He sailed from Bordeaux, France, April 1, and has been away a year last month. Corporal Ernest Hadewig is back with us again, after several weeks of active service in France. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Sullivan are rejoicing over the fact that the 91st division of the 364th Infantry has landed in New York, as it doubtless means that Mrs. Sullivan's brother, Ross Crawford, who was a member of that division, will soon be back home. Mr. Crawford was one of the local boys who was in the fight in the Argonne forest. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Parry, sometime residents of Brea, left last week for Calexico, in the Imperial Valley, where they will make their future home. Mr. and Mrs. W. G.
