OLINDA METHODISTS GIVE SURPRISE FOR PASTOR, REV. KENT OLINDA, April 7.—Special—Friday evening, Rev. Kent of the Olinda M. E. church was given a very pleasant surprise. They went to Santa Ana in the afternoon and when they returned they found the supper table all spread with a splendid supper and plenty of canned fruit on hand. A fine birthday cake was one of the main features of the supper, the day being Rev. Kent's birthday. Alvin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Schryer of the Santa Fe lease surprised them by returning home Saturday morning instead of Sunday. He has been in France for some time. Carl Lechler of the naval station at San Pedro spent the week-end at the J. M. Williams home. Mr. Miranda and daughter Mona of the Santa Fe lease accompanied by Mrs. J. M. Williams and children and Carl Lechler of San Pedro spent Sunday at Mt. Baldy. The snow was so near gone they had to climb very high to find any. DATES GIVEN UPON PAYMENTS OF NOTES FOR VICTORY LOAN In a telegram from Carter Glass, Secretary of the Treasury, received today at Liberty Loan Headquarters the dates upon which the payments will be required on the notes of the Victory Liberty Loan were made known. The Victory notes call for a ten per cent payment upon application or before May 10th, ten per cent on or before July 15th, twenty per cent on or before August 12th, twenty per cent on or before September 3rd, twenty per cent on or before October 7th and the balance of twenty per cent on or before November 11th with accrued interest on deferred installments. A Victory Special exhibit train will tour Southern California during the Victory Loan. This train composed of six cars will carry thousands of exhibits including a German Albatross, six cylinder airplane, the first to be exhibited in the West, and one that was shot down in Flanders, a Whippett tank, one that was used by Pershing in breaking the Hun lines and four German prisoners. It is announced that though these German prisoners are complete in uniform, on account of not being able to get Germans to come to this country, the uniforms will be filled with true to life wax figures. This train will leave San Francisco April 12th showing in Santa Barbara April 15th, in Ventura, Santa Paula and Santa Monica April 16th, returning up the San Joaquin April 17th and then south again to Imperial Valley and Arizona. It is expected Mrs. J. H. Wood of Olinda spent Monday in Los Angeles. Mrs. Chas, Alkire of the Columbia lease was a patient for two days in the Fullerton hospital. She had 28 teeth taken out. Fred Johnston who works on the Columbia lease spent the week-end with his family in Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. Waller and son of the Columbia lease spent the week-end at El Segunda. BOY HURT BY AUTO Harley Neimän, three years old, sustained serious injuries to his leg Friday when he fell from the running board of an auto in front of his home at 511 East Adele-st. At first it was feared the limb had been fractured but this did not prove to be the case. He is expected to recover rapidly. MOTORCYCLE BLAZES Frank Wylie, of Anaheim, sustained serious damage to his motorcycle Sunday while riding thru Santa Ana canyon when a gas leak caught fire and practically ruined the machine before he was able to extinguish the flames by throwing dirt on it.
