CYPRESS FARMERS WANT MORE RAIN; BEETS LOOK FINE CYPRESS, Mar. 26.—Special—The farmers are watching the clouds closely but the rain god sends the clouds on and the farmers wait. The crops are in fine condition but will need rain soon. Indications are for a bumper spud crop and the barley is coming on nicely. Beets are doing nicely where the farmers were fortunate enough to obtain a stand. There is some indications of the bean market reviving. There has been a number of inquiries for carload lots in the last few days. A number of the farmers pooled their beans with the Southern California Bean Growers Association, which seems to have had some effect in reviving the market already. A young lady visitor came to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cloy Ledford early Saturday morning. The young lady and her mother are getting along nicely, and Cloy seems to be doing very well but Grandpa Ledford is in a critical condition, he is too proud to eat and it is feared he will succumb to hunger if he does not regain his poise soon. Mr. and Mrs. Goo. Green entertained with an old-fashion dinner at the home southwest of Cypress, Sunday. The occasion was in honor of nephews, one of the army and one of the navy. Twenty-five partook of the good things to eat, and a great good time was had by all present. Sabe Robison has given up his position with the Cypress mill and there was a party of our young men who attended the races in Los Angeles Sunday. After the race there was a dinner and after the dinner there was a show and the show was good all but a certain dancing number, Cypress came to the front and became a classic with the rest of the show. Miss Dorothy Perkins is spending a few days with Mrs. Thomas Gillison. Miss Perkins is an inhabitant of Los Angeles and is not acquainted with the wilds of country life. She that goffers were a kind of fish and milk came from its native state ice. OLIVE NOTES OF GENERAL INTEREST OLIVE, Mar 28—Special—the members of the Ladies' Circle and their families were entertained at the home of Mrs. M. Payan Friday evening. Progressive whistle was the order of the evening. Miss Doa Lewis and M. Payan capturing first prizes. A jolly party of Olive people enjoyed a picnic Tuesday at Griffith Park in Los Angeles. The drive was made from Olive to Arcadia, where Mr. and Mrs. Frank McCoy joined the party, and then to Griffith Park, where the picnic lunch was spread. Those in the party were Mr. and Mrs. M. Payan, Miss Eulalie Payan, Virgil Payan, Royer Payan, Frs. Florence Lewis, Mrs. Bertha Heishusen and daughters, Eleanor, Inez and Anabel, Fred Heitshusen, Mrs. Minnie Merchant and son Cecil, Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Cole and children Marian and Robert, Mrs. E. B. McCoy and A. C. Fletcher, of Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. OLIVE Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Green entertained with an old-fashion dinner at the home southwest of Cypress. Sunday. The occasion was in honor of nephews, one of the army and one of the navy. Twenty-five partook of the good things to eat, and a great good time was had by all present. Sabe Robison has given up his position with the Cypress mill and has accepted a position with Scott & Frampton at Buena Park. Sabe was with the Cypress Mere Co. for a number of years before coming to the mill and he has decided he prefers the mercantile business to the mill therefore the change. Good luck Sabe we know you will make good. Robert Sconce has taken the place vacated by Robison at the mill. Bob is rapidly mastering the Ford truck which is some job. Jerald Thompson was mustered out of the navy last week and is spending a few days with his mother, Mrs. J. H. Thompson. Jerald is anxious to return to his work in the oil fields. He says the navy is great but being that Uncle Sam is through with him at the present he is more than willing to get back into working harness again. Ben Scounce became a regular mason the other night. From all appearance we judge the goat must have done some tall jumping. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Miller were the guests of Mrs. Myrtle Kendall of Los Angeles, Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Bertha Heitshusen and daughters, Eleanor, Inez and Anabel, Fred Heitshusen, Mrs. Minnie Merchant and son Cecil, Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Cole and children Marian and Robert, Mrs. E. B.
